I think people in general seem largely unconcerned with global 'human rights' in this day and age (if ever they were concerned and not just using it for political leverage).  

My meaning is as an alternative to government intervention, i agree, people are people, they're self centred at the end of the day and want the latest iPhone and don't care if the kid you made it get's pain £5 a month, but you have to have faith in something.

Our lot have been putting their 'faith' into this perceived importance of 'human rights' by the global community since the 80s from what I've seen by my own eyes.  

If after all those decades and a complete lack of any real results, we aren't thinking that this is seriously 'misplaced faith' I fear we'll just keep going around the 'silly merry-go-round' again. We should at least be astute enough to recognise when we are being fobbed off by now.

Which is why we need to stop relying on other's to do our bidding, we need to put ourselves in positions where we can make change but here's the problem, every time someone get's to a position like that our community very quickly make sure they are dragged back down, Mp's like Tan Dhesi are prime examples of this, whatever he does won't be enough for the community (but in his case he's one of the few that does ask question's like the one above in parliament).

What happened in the 80's took place in a very different time, it was a lot easier to hide the shady stuff governments did back then, in today's age it's a lot more difficult, one tweet from a singer proved that weeks back when the ugly reality that is the Indian government came to light (and all the tweet said was that we should talk bout what's happening), it's easy to become jaded and loose hope that nothing will change but at some point something will give.

I don't think we can blame the majority of the law abiding citizens. The british during their Raaj have distilled divide and conquer mentality, back stabbing , money is king tactics in the indian blood. Which today in my opinion helps those that are most vulnerable, and those corrupt individuals know how to exploit this.

The British stopped Maharaj Dalip Singh going back to Punjab and take back his rule , they played every tactic to stop him and succeeded, otherwise I think Punjab would have been thee place to be.

Those tactics by GOI/Police are still played now over the years we have seen protestors been shut down , abused, framed by the Police. A lot of the youngsters especially in Punjab want to go out to other countries as there are hardly any opportunities. GOI need to sort out 3 basic tenants of a country , 1) Health system 2)Police 3) Education . Its shocking that GOI on Republic day they are parading around the border showing off their weapons rather than focusing on the farmers protest and COVID19.

Those few that stand up for rights are targeted. As it canbe seen from the Farmers protest. further South , those who have well paid jobs, are educated are brainwashed by media , hence think its only an issue up North and in Punjab. No one talks , if they do its against us.
