Second marriages

However, in today's case there is an excess of men over women, so in reality polyandry is more appropriate not polygamy.

Yes that's true that there are more males than females in Panjab, although I'm not sure of the statistics for Sikhs.

Would the husbands call each other bhaji? ??

These situations would only happen between brothers, not men of different households.

Those were practical and wise choices in that time. It allowed strong families to keep going despite losing important members. No wonder our numerical strength grew so much despite heavy losses now and then.

What would be practical now?

Well, it does still/did happen.  Most cases are in Himachal region and tend to be between 2+ brothers married to a woman, to keep from having to divide limited assets/lands and keep multiple families.

I guess they could call each other 'paaji' as they do now!  ?

It would be home from home.

That is highly disgusting to our Punjabi and Sikh culture. Our culture will never justify and will see this as a sick culture; whether they are norm at other cultures.

A side note: Sikh population is really dwindling in Panjab, and having multiple wives would be a great way of increasing population percentage.

Hilarious. With the Gender imbalance, this will make things worse. There are less women than men in panjab and you want to skew this ratio more by polygamy?

Reminds me of the fundamentalist Mormons in America, who believe in mandatory polygamy. They abandon and throw out the young men so that they there are more women for the leaders.

Also polygamy was a survival thing with the hindus and sikhs. Not a desired thing. Look at bhagat Puran singh, his mom was treated as a concubine by his hindu father. So it not a good situation to be in to be a 2nd wife. At least the muslims have religious law saying u must treat all wives equally. Sikhs and Hindus don't. So it would be terrible to the wives.

So most hindus or sikhs only had second marriages in rare circumstances when there was no other recourse.

Also I think the OP is referring to the second marriages that our more common today: that of divorcees. I know many. And Bhai jagraj singh of BoS also promoted with one of the BoS sevadaars. They did use that reasoning; that the first was a karmic marriage never to work.

...can't believe no one has thought of this yet...but the question shouldn't be "why do you want more than one wife?", the real question should be "why the hell do you want more than one mother-in-law!?".

Honestly, I can't even get a girl to message me back, and OP wants a second marriage!?

There's documentary on YouTube I watched last year about Islamic polygamous marriages in the UK. Aside from the feckless, low-iq state of the husbands who hide behind Islamic religious law to indulge their fantasies, it's the children who suffer the most. They seem terribly unhappy and crave the stability of a traditional parent family, but they're terrified of saying so on camera. Most if not all of the husbands and fathers in the documentary were autistic f****g ugly inbreds in their 40s, yet somehow they're getting onto the 2nd and 3rd wife who's in her 20s... and the new potential wife seems to be well up for it! ?

Are you looking for someone? cuz I'm single.

Haha no I’m asking because my father-in-law has got married twice. He had an affair (when married to my mother in law) which is bad but then he got married to that woman and had two kids with her so I just always wondered if it was always meant to be that way ?
