I have to chip in. Kids in London can be ar5eholes but I doubt a 5 year old really fully knows what they are doing in this respect (like consciously doing beadbi of a Sikh child).

Dont be scared , approach the schools head and explain what happened. Ask to do a presentation in assembly regarding sikhs and their hair . They need to be educated  not just once, many times on this matter . Ask to invite parents as well or have separate sessions with the parents. Roll this education out to all the schools. I have seen on many occasions recently that schools dont do much. You have to pressure them , all they will say is , its all in hand they have been told and it will never happen again. even though they are only 5 , ask what punishment they willl give to the 5yr old who cut his hair.

Kids are taught some crazy shhtuff at an early age. Not all. But some.

You know what, you are so right. Decades ago I had a young cousin who was being bullied at school when they were around this age for being Sikh, but this was by sullay. I only noticed because he went from cheerful and happy, to miserable and sullen.  We moved him to another school (because the teachers were indifferent) and he soon turned back to his normal self.

I think what might have biased me on this thread was that quite recently (in the last two years or so), I had a mixed-race nephew who got pulled up at school for threatening to chop another kids hair off. The nephew had long uncut kesh at that point (not in a joora or anything but wild like Mowgli), and when questioned, nephew said the other boy had threatened to cut his hair (I don't know what kids at that age are doing running around with scissors myself?), and so he grabbed the scissors and threatened to cut the other boy's hair. The other kid then went and run off and told the teacher.
