how can i stop having discriminatory thoughts on other communities

iam not proud to admit this but i feel like i am strongly biased against muslims and hindus. I always am suspicious of them and generally when they are suffering i am indifferent to it. the reason is tht i have had bad experiences in my life with these 2 communities and i know not all are bad but i still have suspiciousn and find myself discriminating against them

i also try to get friends to share this mindset i dont know if they agree or just nod in approval cos they get annoyed with me. Plus i just recently got clued up on the UK scene and the stuff i hear tht used to (or still is?) go n there makes my blood boil

This is just a personal opinion. From what I've learnt (from people I trust) and witnessed myself vis-à-vis how many other communities treat Sikhs (over decades), regardless of a friendly façade, I think a level of 'streetwiseness' as well as a realistic appraisal of socio-political realities is FULLY appropriate.

 I don't think being protective of yourself and your own community, when there is compelling evidence of covert malice is at all inappropriate. 

When it starts to spill over to harassing randoms, then someone has lost the plot. It's like a bunch of cowards, unhappy at the Israel-Palestine situation, roughing up some dweeby Rabbi in another country. Or some apna, unhappy about the grooming situation roughing up some nerdy p@ki half his size, instead of dealing with the actual people directly involved.

I think having a guard up isn't a bad thing at all, just don't explicitly exude unwarranted hatred.

It could come from family / Sikh community when you hear them bad mouthing other community. 

How to stop this? Lots of Sangat, Simran, seva and 2.5 hours of simran, mediation or reading of baanias (with viakhia). 

Viakhia is on YouTube and Google (SGGS is online! WITH viakhia) so we literally have ZERO excuse not t go through them.

its a natural (albeit irrational and wrong) reaction.  don't worry about it.  i think it will clear up naturally in time, i mean you already know it is wrong.  maybe if you become more outgoing it will clear up faster (because you will be exposed to more varieties of people from those groups).

when i was a teenager i went to a high school near some ghetto areas and the black people i had to take classes with did not leave a good impression.  also i disliked the whole 'ghetto' culture which alot non-black people i didn't like acted out.  as a result i felt an dislike of black people.  

however when i got older and didn't have to mix with those particular people i lost any feeling of dislike to blacks as a group.  now just see them same as any other group.

Khalsa ji, always remember we are all beings of the Same Creator who resides in all of us.Do not have hatred or any grudge on people.What makes our blood boil is the actions, not the race or religion of someone.We are all His Beings.Always remember Bhagat Kabir Ji and Bhagat Fareed Ji were Muslim.Bhai Mardana was Muslim.Many Muslims and Hindus also joined the Khalsa Panth during Guru Sahib's time despite knowing that our battle was against Mughal Empire and Hill Rajas(Hindus).

 

Our battle is never against any religion or race.Our battle is the fight for truth and justice.The fight against tyranny.The fight against their actions.Not their souls.

By discriminating others we are having Hankar and putting ourselves above them.We are all equal.We are all Vaheguru's Creation.
