Does Rahao actually mean pause?

So was watching some videos, and one led to another, as usual on YouTube lol

But stumbled across a video about Rahao,  and its the fundamental point of any Shabad. 

So when singing a Shabad,  are we actually meant to pause? If not Rahao can not mean pause, and if it doesn't what does it actually mean?

Difficult when singing, plausible when reading

It can also point to the tek or asthaai which is the main line or first lines in music lyrics. I dont know the english word for it: the chorus line? The one that is repeated before every stanza?

So it can tell us which pangti is to be the chorus line ( if thats the right word) when singing the shabad. It is usually also the main idea or topic of a shabad as Gnostic said. Or if the shabad is full of questions and examples, it will be the answer and main point.

The lines before Rahao is telling reader to think what they read then next line explains it using examples or can expand for reader/ listeners. 

"Mere Madho ji, sadhsangt mile so triaa; Gurpursad Parm padh paya, sooki caast k hria. Rahao. 

"What's my mind (Madho) informing me? Sadhsangat is where blessings are obtained? I will be lushed with Evergreen by joining Sadhsangat?" Following pangti explains nobody else will be there for you. It is the Lord who provides all nourishment to his Creatures. 

Now, we're tangled in a world "I must work 8-10 hours to pay for food and bills for my fam" YES! YOU MUST because it's duty. But did you go Sadhsangat morning, afternoon or evening? (Gurudwara open up to Sangat 4am onwards) "Morning I saw my kids off to school and evening I had to get them so n so... Then relatives were coming by evening..." Unfortunately, the mind jumps from one place to another so one cannot be Everlushed with greenery (calm, peaceful). 

Let's see other ways to keep the mind everlushed; meditation, exercise, yoga, cycling... But Maharaaj is stating Sadhsangat. Sadhsangat hits two targets with one stone. You get everlush AND you get in tune with the Lord. NOTHING / NOBODY else can do it like Sangat.

As far as I was taught it is the indicator of the  central message or message groups of the shabad , the two line pangti which is usually a question /answer or problem/ solution pairing  that is why it is used as the asthai in kirtan  . When doing paat we say rahao as well to help listener grasp the message .  Many people think that they can do partial asthai or use a different part of the shabad as the asthai and that is wrong and goes against gurmat sangeet parampara; raag and asthaai rules are vital to follow else the sangat grabs wrong idea .

Yeah , what you are talking about is the chorus,  and yeah its the jist of the song, and usually the melody and lyrics,  one understands first, because its repeated so many times.
