Waheguru Ji Ki Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

I'm 13 years old and I'm have come on to the path of sikhi and I am working towards taking Amrit. I have been doing my Paath and I don't understand most of it. I've been researching and I haven't found a way to learn the meaning of Gurbani. The only way I have found is using a translation. If anyone knows how I can understand Gurbani please tell me.

The more you read the understanding will automatically come to you. YouTube Japji sahib translation or Jaap, Sukhmani Sahib etc translation it'll be there... For Jaap Sahib translation go for the over 20 mins. Jarnail Singh's is too fast!

Increasing your vocabulary will help.

These might be useful in that respect.

Do you have gurbani apps?

If not get some. iGurbani is good. So is Gurbani searcher. As you read your paath. Read the translations underneath. And choose 1 pauri each day where you actually find the meaning of each word and then try to put it together. Then throughout the day, keep repeating that pauri and understanding it. Khalsa ji , on youtube is really good at helping kids do this. Look him up too.

Also if you have time, listen to katha while driving to school or while doing chores/workout.

And if in the summer yiu get time, take santhiya classes. They help. If none available in your area. Google bhagat jaswant singh ji , he is trying to put santhiya online. The website might be called learn shudh gurbani or gurbaniseva.com

In santhiya you learn not only how to pronounce the words but where to put vishraam ( pauses) so the pangti makes sense and the uthaanka ( the history of the circumstances why shabad was written).

English translations are inaccurate.

also, not just vocab, but the grammar is confusing also.  look at all the different ways 'Hukam' is spelt in Japji!

for vocab, you can google search Sanskrit, Pali, Arabic, Persian, Urdu and Hindi dictionaries.
