Wait for the learned Sangat to respond friend but I had heard that you can tie your Dastar on your arm for periods of time when in private. 

I'm curious too because I let my head breath at home a bit.

‘Leave’ sounds careless, like forgetting it’s uncovered lol

Anyway part of good kesh care routine should include time with hair uncovered to air/let your scalp ‘breath’. Also oiling (weekly is good), regular (daily) wash, twice daily kangha

But typically keep kesh covered for respect even just a small parna or patka

Depends on level of rehit. I used to but nowadays I keep a chota dastaar/keski or psuedochunni so I can let my scalp breath

the head is always covered except when washing, drying or combing. Sikhs are encouraged to air dry hair this is referred to as 'hare karna' it is basically giving your follicles a breather . even so if you are doing simran during this free time in the morning you need to cover your head with the part of your dastar spread like a chunni.
