@dallysingh101 my two cents.

It depends on your relationship with him.

One way would be maybe giving him a few hints; comparing what he was before and what he has become. Pointing out the benefits of being in shape on all the different aspects of life - healthy mind and body etc generally leads to a higher chance of success in different fields. You have already pointed the other person you heard of who passed away due to ill health.

Alternative just blurt it out "mate, what's gone wrong?". But you can only do that if you are confident that it wont cause unrepairable damage to your relationship.

His friend shed that premarital 20, his Mehla is tied to the ol ball and chain now and it's just getting heavier...and heavier.

She must have a lot of Sharda for Sikhi or tell him she loves him a lot. Dude is no longer concerned.

Everyone is so occupied with work, and stress etc. Only way to have time and opportunity for all the right stuff is spend most free time as a family at the Gurudwara, and the Gurudwara must offer a great deal more services, edcuation, and opportunities. Reading bits and pieces about Purtan Gurudwara, you realize how much more...holistic...activated...comprehensive and inclusive those Gurudwaras were.

Gym. Gurudwara.

University. Gurudwara.

Communal kitchen. Gurudwara.

Union. Gurudwara.

Hospital. Gurudwara.

Chamber of commerce. Gurudwara.

Motor pool. Gurudwara.

Child care and education. Gurudwara.

Counseling. Gurudwara.

Yeah! There's that dimension too. If I was a broad and someone sprung that up on me, I'd be fuming. Maybe he feels now that he's married and got kids, she can't run off and has to tolerate it?

The ironic thing is, he lived with me prior to getting married, and we talked about this when he got slimmed down........  it's like really selfish of him too in my opinion? I know females might keep quiet, but I'm pretty sure they'll be embarrassed about it to some degree.

Yeah. My mom always told me when you get married you have a responsibiliy to stay fit. Your other is monogamous with you and committed. Your children rely on you. Your ability to work relies on it.

Even on the shallow level...I mean dudes already...aren't the fairer sex. Least we can do is be fit and clean.

But hey. Maybe she cut him off, is happy and has a huge life insurance policy on him. She's just like, spend time with the kids while you can before the heart attack takes you. Remember to Jaap Naam.

Wait. I should have called it fat life insurance policy.

Jokes aside, you're doing the right thing encouraging him to be fit.

Bros got access to a reasonably resourced small private gym. We bought a lot of the stuff together. It's such a shame man.

What does he like to do?

If it's eat and tv, what does he watch?

Is his job high paying and desk oriented or could he just as easily work physically and make the same or similar money?

Let's drop the subject. I'm going to start thinking about the past too much then! lol

He's just really physically lazy from young I guess. I realise now, having him here living with me meant he couldn't get away with it for a bit, plus he was probably really motivated because his wedding was coming up.

He's had umpteen opportunities to do physically work (that would have paid off too) but preferred sedentary type work.

He is a creature of comfort I guess (well f**king undeniably).

You can take a horse to water...etc. etc.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
