Yes, there are definitely clothing factories I am aware of in Ludhiana. There are many sports factories around Jalandhar, for example Shrey who make around half of the cricket helmets that I see when I watch cricket.

Wonder if there are any concerns from companies to invest given the proximity to Pakistan border.

That ones been around since the 80s. The 'volatile' 'unpredictable' border region of Panjab.

I think they make lots of stuff in Ludhiana (you'd know more than me perhaps?). Sewing machines etc. too (that I was told Levis use). Bata footwear!

There isn't a limit to what could be done, but I feel like our lot have this small minded provincialism going on, when they should be thinking globally. Also, crabs in a bucket mentalities.

I have plenty of family in Punjab that are jatts and well educated, they're just not getting the jobs. My cousin and her dalit friend applied for a job and they had to do this test thingy, my cousin got a score wayy higher than her friend but her dalit friend got the job because she was a lower caste. Both my parents who are jatts spent years working hard getting their degrees but they couldn't find a well paying job. Same with some other family. Yeah you have some idiots (like some of my second cousins) that are obsessed with bhangra and that sh1t but that's because they're jobless. For me, recently it's always been that we've lacked in good leadership recently.

I agree . We have been brainwashed into believing that we cannot stand on our own and cannot control punjab. This is psychological warfare. Alot of apne think we are not worthy of running our own state .

South India is full of IT/Computing and call centres, a lot to do with their higher education and English language skills.

Do japanese speak english? No! Then why are there so many tech companies in japan? Its <banned word filter activated> that just because those south indians speak english there are industries there. We have been brainwashed into believing we are only good for dance daru and these south indians are some high iq angels. <banned word filter activated>. Im in tech. We can do everything that others can but we have to believe in ourselves first. Not everyone is gonna be some high iq science nerd. Maybe the ones we see doing nothing could have artistic talent. We never know and wont know until everyone is given an environment where they can know what skills they are good at. This environment is lacking in punjab. We think if someone is not good at math or science they are useless. But these are not the only things. There are so many other skills people can be good at. We have to let people hone those skills they have rather than forcing them to do things that they are not fit for. But unfortunately when you are from a place where instead of doing things because you are good at it or like it,people choose things that will fill their stomach it is not easy at all.

To be fair the japanese speak a lot of english and invest heavily in learning it as a business language.

India is going to keep chugging along with its large middle class and small upper class enjoying the fruits of cheap labour supplied by the massive lower class. Only thing that will disrupt this is war with china and pakistan or a catastrophic disease.

We need to focus on Punjab’s economy, which directly influences 70% of the total Sikh population. Got to transition out of agriculture/ pind life and urbanize. Stop looking towards government jobs and concentrate on business and higher education with economic focus, not just useless degrees. Ludhiana and Jallundar are ideal for creating a mega city urban area as they are central and allow massive absorption of a good chunk of Punjab villages. Instead of wasting our water on rice cultivation, we need to use it for urban and industrial use. We need to stop looking towards others for our solutions. No matter the policies of the central government, we need to rise to the occasion and take our destiny into our own hands. Economic sovereignty.

Farming is a horrible business. A great life long practice to alleviate suffering, make one independent, and better nourished, but I would hate to try and make a living at it. Definitely business should be all sorts of things, preferably productive ones. We should keep enough farms to feed the Paanth plus. Just not for money.

I love growing myself (okay, on a small scale). It's murder even keeping a tiny bit of soil constantly replenished with nutrients in a sustainable way. I've achieved it after trying for years, with composting all food scraps and the grass and cardboard, and that's only on a miniscule scale. Worm farms help big time! I still have to buy a big sack of soil every year though. 

There is something very spiritual and therapeutic about growing, no doubt about it! But when it's just a business......I don't even know if you get that? Panjab has literally ruined it's soil with 'modren', 'green revolution' techniques (more like Frankenstein style Guinea Pig failed experimentation on the food and soil of Panjab!) 

That bull5hit green revolution was not sustainable.
