The man died. What do you think would be a fairer punishment ?

I don't know about the US, but in the UK if you unintentionally kill someone, you are charged with manslaughter.

In this case, 'aggravated' manslaughter seems too harsh. It doesn't say he will definitely get 30 years, just that that is the max sentence.

If he has a good record otherwise, it should be much lower.

@GurjantGnosticsince you live in the US, would you agree with what we hear in the UK that non-whites get much harsher sentences compared to whites there ?

Personally, I have no idea how I would treat this case. I don't see how long term prison sentences benefit anyone but the most dangerous criminals.

Yes non whites statistically, imperically, get much harsher sentences.

I don't know how to exactly treat the case either, but like you said the 30 years is too harsh potentially.

@Jassu

If your relatives are racist, they need to change or go too. No room for racist Sikhs. And if they go getting up in people's faces screaming N***** I hope they get laid out too. And if they hit their weak <banned word filter activated> head. Oh well.

Maybe pray at your Jatthera they get sorted out by Guru Ji before me.

And how did none of them instill in you enough Sikhi to know not to date?

Let's sell their racism and buy you some sharam. So you all can sit and enjoy the warmth of that Dharam.

Indians of the older generation (pre-'millennials') have tendency to racism. I don't think it's anything like the hardcore racism that exists in the States, it's more ignorance. Also, Indians are very 'colorist' - they much prefer lighter skinned people in their own societies.

But you don't see it as much with Western-raised Indians.

It's all Har Kirpa. I wanted to ease myself into the hypocrisy and problems of the Paanth slowly. It's one of the reasons I joined here. I knew as I was approaching Sikhi, how perfect it is, I knew Sikhs by and large are excellent, but I also knew I was going to run into the negative aspect, and this place has allowed me to learn about Gurmat and also the problems that have taken root within us, and those we face.

When I was truly fresh to this I knew it would break me to see the unberbelly, but as intended, the time, the information, most importantly the effects of the Gurmantar, have bolstered my immunity and resolve.

If you're a racist, a casteist, a sexual predator and you're a Sikh, if you promote kurehit, want to change Sikhi to suit your ego, or have infiltrated, you best get it out the way before we cross paths.

It's open season on those behaviors.

For the record. When those of us who understand hear a story like this told, we just start shaking our heads...make sharp inhaling noises..hang our heads...we get to the part where Corey for example punches the dude and we say "Coreyyy...noooo..bro..." Because we know he's right in a lot of ways and we know what's going to happen to him one way or another before we even hear the rest of the story.

One on one with my younger brothers I always tell them they can't be Corey, that no matter how right it is, we can't afford to lose them over some dumb <banned word filter activated>. So there's a lot of talk of emotional intelligence, coping mechanisms, and a lot of encouragement and reinforcement of what is Right and what is real right now.

I will in fact use Corey as an example to not be Corey moving forward.

AND at the same time, not individually advised, but on the mass scale, I fully support a system whereby people are held directly accountable for their mouth and actions.

If you have a friend that runs their mouth, what you tell them? Keep going and some day somebody is going to rightfully paste you one and you'll have it coming. And you'd be right. And it should be that way sometimes until it doesn't have to be that way.

During the height of the pandemic, a lot of Asians were facing racial abuse (I’m only mentioning verbal abuse; I’m aware of the physical abuse too) yet I didn’t hear them going around and knocking people out to the point of death.

Because most of them can't fight, that's the truth. If they could Bruce Lee a racist fudhu away they would have.

Most race attacks are like that. The racists generally like to choose situations and people that aren't too much of a threat to them. I don't know what happened to this old fart though? Maybe he was so full of hate and contempt (and his past experiences taught him), that he thought there would be no consequences?

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
