Monetization of Gurbani on YouTube

I've been seeing this more and more recently,  in middle of Paath or Shabad an advert will just pop up throwing me off completely when concentrating.

I always thought its very bad to monetize Gurbani,  but then again it could be YouTube themselves.

But either way wish it stops, I don't mind it on Katha's but really annoying in Paath and Shabad.

The uploader of a video can choose not to monetise it. My opinion is that unless the shabad or the katha is being performed by the uploader or a representative on their behalf, getting ad money for someone else's efforts is theft. There's tonnes of Gurbani channels on YouTube that make money for just uploading CDs of shabads.

Some of my friends make YouTube videos and get like less than 1k views and I still see ads though, despite their sub count being too low for monetization.

So there is a threshold that needs to be met, before you get advertised ads ?

No, you get ads, but you can only get the option to be monetized after you reach a certain goal.

when you upload a video they immediately give you a choice to monetise or not. Monetisation isn't linked to sub count. If the video contains easily identifiable copyrighted material that YouTube's algorithm can detect as not the intellectual property of the uploader, the video is blocked or restricted unless you're creating a video essay / analysis in which case the Fair Use aspect comes into play. I don't think YouTube's detection bots are capable of discerning shabads and their original owners / performers; it struggles with English in a non-standard dialect. That's why there's a load of Sikhs in India who are making God knows how much money by just uploading MP3s of kirtan and katha.

If you have autoplay or a playlist it will add ads. No matter whos material it is or if it's monetized. 

I just wish those that do monetize Gurbani would choose to have ads at the beginning and end only and not split up the the continuity of the Gurbani with ads throughout. That's so tacky to say the least.

Install one of those privacy browsers that block ads. Access the mobile version of the YouTube site via that app. You might get one ad when the video begins, but what you're listening to won't be interrupted every few minutes.
