Watch debates on YouTube featuring well-spoken Indian historians and commentators as they lament the money and resources looted by the British, and then read the yapping dogs in the comment section regurgitating whatever Modi once said about the same subject, and not once does it ever cross the minds of these third-world hypocrites that what they're in tears about what the British did is EXACTLY what the Indians do to non-Hindu minorities in their country. How can anyone have sympathy for any "looted" wealth of that country?

Yup, I've seen so many singhs, and kaurs like this, including some people in my own family, they don't teach them to defend for themselves, instead they teach them to not get invloved in that stuff, which is bs, cause you can't always hide. That's why I'm making my younger brother and some other fam work out and martial arts, he's still a kid, and he plays a lot of sport but he's a twig, and he needs to learn.

Sikh Coalition legal director Amrith Kaur Aakre says biased interpretation of government policies and laws harms Sikhs in public and private sector jobs

 

Washington: Religious discrimination and hate crime against the Sikh community in the United States has increased in recent years, a human rights expert told the lawmakers urging the administration and the US Congress to take steps to end this.

“Congress must take action,” Amrith Kaur Aakre told members of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties during a recent Congressional hearing on discrimination and civil right. Aakre is legal director of the Sikh Coalition.

“Workplace discrimination harms Sikhs in a range of public and private sector jobs, including transportation, entertainment, healthcare, the military and law enforcement by allowing for the biased interpretation and application of government policies and laws. “We’ve seen Sikhs willing to put their lives on the line in defence of their cities and country, only to be told that uniform and grooming policies prohibit their articles of faith,” she said.

“We have seen Sikhs ordered to cut their hair for work-related drug testing even when alternative means are readily available. And we’ve seen Sikh first responders in the fight against Covid-19 pressured to shave their religiously mandated beards instead of being given appropriate, safe personal protective equipment that doesn’t interfere with their faith,” Aakre said.

 

Responding to a question, Aakre said Transportation Security Administration (TSA) profiling for Sikh Americans and other minority groups has always been a problem. Bias against travellers is prevalent at every stage of the travelling process and it starts with the fact that the TSA agents do not receive adequate training on policies or cultural competencies, which is evident from the moment many stigmatized groups arrive at the airport and have to go through behavioural detection before reaching security.

In response to another question from Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, she said Sikh American students experience high rate of bullying and harassment in public schools.

“Sikh boys who wear turbans are called terrorists and girls are teased for having long hair. And many of these children are subjected to violence. Our research shows that the majority of Sikh children, over 50%, have endured school bullying. Over two-thirds or 67% reported that they were bullied in school and turban Sikh children experienced bullying at more than double the national rate,” Jackson Lee said.

Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, who is the first and only South Asian American woman elected to the House of Representatives, said 9/11 forever changed what it means to be Muslim, Arab, or South Asian American in America.

Nirmal Singh has only been in the country for two weeks and was on a visitors’ visa

Chandigarh, April 4

A 75-year-old Sikh man was allegedly attacked while he was on an early morning walk in Queens, in which his nose was broken and he received severe bruises.

The assault, police say was unprovoked, reports abc7ny.com

Nirmal Singh spoke to Eyewitness News about the attack. He was still wearing his bloodied jacket and spoke in Punjabi.

Singh said that he was allegedly punched from behind on a Sunday morning walk around 7 a.m. on 95th Avenue and Lefferts Blvd. in Richmond Hill.

There were no words exchanged, but the assault left him with injuries. Singh has only been in the country for two weeks and was on a visitor’s visa.

We can't lump all black people into one monolith. If one or two Somali Muslim druggies mugged a bazurg or two in Rexdale that bears no relation to the overall good relations that Sikhs enjoy with our Caribbean ancestry brethren who are overwhelmingly great people (aside from one or two youngsters that may have gone off the rails). I think you might be perceiving what druggies are up to in the States for Canada as the dynamics are totally different north of the Border.

1. This is not the case. One or two junkie Somali Muslims robbing a bazurg or two in Etobicoke park is in no way reflective of the fact Caribbean migrant communities also share a similar Commonwealth migration story working in the same factories and encountering the same racism in years gone by and with good relations between Sikh and Caribbean elders throughout.

Good for them. Sikhs are doing just fine in Canada (better than most immigrants) and don't need any business assistance. But Sikhs certainly do need to provide greater targetted mentoring to that small minority at risk of falling prey to the lure of easy money.

The drug dealing clowns in BC are less than a 1% minority. A lot of the original dealers were from families associated with perpetrating the Congress Genocide of Sikhs in the 1980's. Albeit now they capture vulnerable youth as pawns and the "get rich die trying" mentality encouraged by gangster rap financed by the Republican Tea Party type financiers does not help the situation. A somewhat similar situation exists musically whereby a lot of bhangra records and artists are put out there by a famous label run by Pakistani Jatt businessmen.

You are absolutely right. But if Bhagwant Mann plays his cards right there can be big changes over the next 5 years with projected economic growth of 50% over the next 5 years particularly if Diaspora Sikhs start to seriously invest in east Punjab now that anti-Sikh leaders like Amrinder and the Badals who were actively preventing inward investment from Diaspora Sikhs have finally been soundly beaten at the ballot box.

None of the Western countries can match that level growth in the next 5years. And Punjab is projected to have a $1trillion dollar economy by 2050 (the overall Indian economy is projected to be $42trillion by 2050 ie twice the size of the present day American economy).

The most important thing is that along with this economic progress Sikhi grows in leaps and bounds in Punjab (and throughout India). If our community can arise from the brink of disaster at the point we are at currently and somehow through our collective efforts become the largest united indigenous non-Muslim demographic in India (no individual Hindu caste exceeds more than 4% of the 1.4 billion Indian population) then 100 million Sikhs with a $1 trillion in east Punjab and access to the purse strings of a $42 trillion economy in India collectively then the Sikh Panth will be unstoppable and in an entirely different position within 28years time. The next 5years will be key be to setting the agenda if we can ensure only one united Gurdwara per pind (and locality in the West) as the first building block then that will stand us in good stead.
