A 19-year-old woman found dead in student accommodation in central London has been identified as police search for a man in connection with her death.

Student Sabita Thanwani was found with neck injuries in the halls of residence in Sebastian Street, Clerkenwell.

Police and medics went to Arbour House at about 05:10 GMT on Saturday but she died at the scene.

Detectives want to speak to Maher Maaroufe, 22, understood to have been in a relationship with Ms Thanwani.

The Metropolitan Police said early indications suggested Ms Thanwani, who attended City, University of London, was with Mr Maaroufe on Friday evening.

Sounds like a Sindhi surname. The guy looks north African. Sad story, feel sorry for her parents she was young and living away from her parents at university.

Yes, I thought the name looked Sindhi

The accused needs an interpreter apparently. What ?! So they had a relationship and he cannot speak/understand English ?!

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of 19-year-old Sabita Thanwani at her central London student accommodation.

Maher Maaroufe, 22, who is also accused of attacking a police officer, appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court....

Mr Maaroufe, who is a Tunisian national, was asked by the magistrate if he understood proceedings. Mr Maaroufe shook his head.

Mohammed Zeb, defending, told the court he would explain it to his client after they left the courtroom and that at future hearings "there should be an interpreter for the Tunisian Arabic dialect".
