Imran Khan being deposed? Fail?

According to some, Islamic extremists are a big influence behind the scenes.

I don't really know otherwise. But Imran Khan might be a 'lesser evil' compared to some (I mean he might be a 'good person' relative to others) which might not be a good thing for other countries who want to have influence on Pakistan.

He was well known in the UK and other commonwealth countries where cricket is popular prior to his career in politics, as he is Pakistan's greatest sportsman.

Further to your point in this thread, going off tangent slightly. Anyone have any thoughts on his former marriage to Jemima Goldsmith, who is from a family connected to Rothschilds ? I think it was mentioned that it was a sort of 'arranged marriage' ?

How Pakistan’s Politicians Help the Military

Every time civilian politicians bend laws to accommodate the generals, they damage long-term prospects for democracy.

Mr. Shah is the author of “The Army and Democracy: Military Politics in Pakistan.

Since its foundation in 1947, Pakistan has spent more than three decades under military rule. Even when out of power, the military has exerted behind-the-scenes influence to maintain its firm grip on politics and national security. Establishing democratic institutions, including civilian control of the military, has thus been an arduous process riddled with uncertainty, backsliding and reversal.

The military rule the country without a doubt They select Prime Ministers to convey the pretence of democracy to save face. As long as the handpicked stooge goes along with everything the military says, he's safe. When he or she begin to go off script, they either get sacked or killed. The question is who ultimately has the military's ear.

Imran Khan ousted as Pakistan's PM after key vote

9 April 2022
Updated 5 hours ago

Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan has been ousted from power after losing a no-confidence vote in his leadership.

The vote was held past midnight after opposition parties brought a motion against him, following days of drama.

The motion was first brought against Mr Khan last week, but he blocked it by dissolving parliament.

Sunday's vote took place after the country's Supreme Court ruled in favour of opposition parties and said that Mr Khan had acted unconstitutionally.

Mr Khan is now the first Pakistani prime minister to be ousted by a no-confidence vote.

Pakistan's parliament will meet to vote for the country's new leader on Monday.

That person will be able to hold power until October 2023, when the next election is due to be held.

I wouldn't be surprised if America is behind this. When the war in Ukraine started Imran Khan was in Moscow kissing Putin's hand. This has obviously upset them very much.

Perhaps America has a lot of say over the Pak army.

I think they have very strong, long time contacts going at least back to the 80s when the yanks supported the mujahaideen (with training, intel and equipment) against the russians. Actually I think both brits and yank intelligence orgs have long established relationships with some of these people from that period. Brits probably even longer - all the way from partition itself.
