Question: Why did Sikhs oppose NRC & CAA in India?

There were huge protests around India and many Sikhs helped protestors and very vocal about opposing the bills some years back. But why exactly did Sikhs oppose NRC & CAA?  

Wouldn't that bill be beneficial to Sikhs? Since it granted a swifter path to Indian citizenship under the assumption of religious persecution  to any individual belonging to the specific minorities of Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan, who entered India on or before 31 December 2014. According to the Intelligence Bureau, the immediate beneficiaries of the new law would've been 25,447 Hindus, 5,807 Sikhs, 55 Christians, 2 Buddhists and 2 Parsis.

I believe the main reason for the protests were the Act didn't mention Muslims and did not offer the same eligibility benefits to Muslim immigrants from those 3 nations. I don't understand why Sikhs got involved, because those countries are already Muslim-majority.

because their beloved Muslims would be affected. Our people are so dumb now its insane. They always want to virtue signal and prove how good they are.

Because it didn't offer similar visas to Muslims.

But the thing is, Muslims have 57 states they could immigrate to. There are no other Sikh or Jain countries. And only Nepal and India are Hindu countries. Nepal doesn't have the capacity to take care of them.

Because apne are total food-oos. This law didn't effect Indian muslims in any way, so I don't know why they threw a hissy fit. It just prioritised Hindu and Sikh refugees from places like Afghanistan and Pakistan. Nehru and Gandhi really did mess up big time allowing so many suls to stay behind after partition. Tara Singh for all his failures did at least help get rid of them from Punjab. 

Can you imagine suls in Pakistan protesting if only muslim refugees were allowed into their country?

Just offering another viewpoint, Punjab has been a traditional Congress stronghold and now it is controlled by the AAP.

Both parties are opponents of BJP and would oppose whatever BJP proposes.

Very possible that the majority of the protestors were their supporters who were being told to fight for justice bla,bla,bla while in fact they were just political pawns being used to undermine BJP policies and knowing the simpletons we have in our community, they fell for it hook ,line and sinker.

This Act was very beneficial for Sikhs especially those living in war torn and terrorist infested countries like Afghanistan and Pakistan. I guess that movie Lal Singh Chadda perfectly showcases these pathetic bunch of umbrella holders, stupid yet arrogant.

Only One reason Sikhs just oppose or support anything opposite of Hindutva forces , BJP. BJP bring NRC CAA so it had to be opposed no matter even if Sikhs are beneficiary.

Just look recently BJP supporters strongly protested Lal Singh Chadda and Large number of Sikhs supported it. I think from now onwards Sikhs will watch all bollywood movies because Hindutva forces are planning to boycott bollywood
