Yesterday, the election for the President and other posts for Shri Durgyana temple was held. It is considered to be the biggest temple in Punjab. BJP leader and former minister Laxmi Kanta Chawla won the election andbecame the President of the Durgyana temple.

It is said that she has a good relationship with Aam Aadmi Party nowadays. Earlier, during Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's visit to Amritsar, she met him. This month, she also met AAP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha.

Do these people do this fasting stuff because its fun or because they actually believe fasting will increase their husband's life because I know a sikh lady who used to do this karwachauth stuff with such fervour and then her husband passed away at a very young age. I don't understand are these people celebrating for fun or actually believe in it. Tbh if starving yourself for the entire day is your idea of fun i dont know what to think.

When your minority religion doesn't assert its identity and has a very unstable spiritual and cultural mooring, the larger and better established faiths with the greater infrastructure and socio-cultural reach will inevitably begin to attract stragglers. It's not unexpected.

messed up

We don't believe in this stuff and we're telling our people not to buy into their bs, nothing wrong with that.

I heard this katha! 😂 Giani Jaswant Singh was going in hard on everyone. He was giving the Muslim deras a hard time, too, speaking about how when he sees their functions on TV, he sees tonnes of Amritdhari Singhs at these functions. But, yes, there's a lot of anti-Karvachauth and anti-Rakhri katha around the relevant time of year for each festival. Someone needs to remind our people what our customs are, because I don't think the people remember.

Honestly, the only reason Sikh women my age celebrate rakhri is to rip their brothers and cousins off and get $$$. I don't get the need to celebrate it cause it's basically your brother protecting you, which means you're not able to take care of yourself.

Yes people actually believe in this. It's the same with the "Sikhs" who do murti pooja as well, they actually believe in seeking those devi devte for help. Why they believe in these things IDK really, but to question if it's genuine or not isn't really the right question to be asking.

This Karvachauth if I am correct got popularised from Indian Soap operas.

I don't think anyone knew what it was.

It is completely anthethical to Sikhi.

It provides no benefit.

What's the benefit in celebrating anything? Why do people celebrate their birthdays? To feel good, socialise, feel close to people? To show you care?
