I've been reading this for the last few days. I think it's a really good study, and quite stimulating to read. I recommend it for everyone.

You can download it from the fourth post in this thread:

Could you make the download available again?

Secondly, I personally object to this professor lady or any other non-Sikh butting into our business. "Debating the Dasam Granth" sounds like an Orientalist study of tribals fighting each other. Like, "Pointed Battle: Towards an Understanding of Why Hutus and Tutsis Hate Each Other".

I don't want any white women (or men) studying us like lab specimens.

I rather have it out with a missionary Sikh than have outsiders stick their noses in.

I can actually agree with this paragraph, while also desiring for her to stay the hell out of our business.

For her, the "Dasam Granth" is an object of study. It might as well be the Epic of Gilgamesh or the Code of Hammurabi for her. It's just a "text", an item for her to transform into a study, which then transforms into a professorship, which transforms in money, grants, awards, and gratification of her hankar (ego).

For us, the Dasam Granth Sahib is not object of study. It is our Guru's bani. It is the vehicle through which our Guru breathes the spirit of martial resistance into our Panth. Sri Dasam Granth Sahib is a living manifestation of our Miri, not a dead "text".

I'm super suspicious of western works myself, but I read this, and I think it was spot on. It comes to very similar conclusions about Dasam Granth that some of us who grew up with DG being demonised and looked into ourselves came to. I found it highly perceptive, more than some standard pendu level analysis.

Try now, I put a new link in the first post. If you have any issues downloading, let me know.

From what she wrote I think she is aware that this is not just a 'text'  for us.

She also seems to understand its relevance and utility for people.

Could you just put the link here?

The Google Books link just leads to a preview (which shows only footnotes and not the body of the book).

    • Hi All, I havent been on this forum for a while but I thought id give it a try again as it helped me through some rough times earlier in my life. I wanted to seek for guidance on sikhi and marriage ... I noticed a post earlier on sanjog etc. and it got me thinking about my own life and marriage. For context, I have been married 3 years and things are not working out. When we met, I looked in to sanjog alot and it felt like it was written. However, as these years have gone by its become apparent that we no longer align with each other and our marriage is struggling. We dont seem to understand each other and things have fallen apart. We are at a stage now where separation/divorce is looking like the best option. Neither of us are happy and whilst we have tried to work things through in many different ways, after 3 years we have drifted away. What are the sikh views on this? is it written if we decide that we no longer serve each other? or is that a sin and should I continue to work at it? my issue at the moment is that it is draining me. I feel withdrawn from everything due to things going on between us including sikhi and going to the gurdwara.  Breaks my heart to even be writing this but I do think if we are both not happy and cant see a way of being happy then what is the point in continuing? Or should I be continuing and is it paap if we dont honour our laavan? if that is the case, what does sikhi say about marriage? how do I continue knowing everyday I feel the way I do?   Thanks

    • I'll use this place as my spiritual journal so if anyone wants to join then feel free to! I'm not sure if this could be classed as an experience but last week (or 2 weeks ago), I felt my saliva to be sweet however I lost it after a week. I don't really regret it though, if I lost it then it's Hukam Another point, I feel my concentration to be very good for a while, I can focus on the void for a longer period of time than I could before. I also feel a lot more Anand, it's all Guru di kirpa
