Questions regarding ardaas. Kindly help!

I am in big dilemma.

As we all know that waheguru ji everywhere. I also understand that it is important to go to gurudwara sahib as well.

My question is that if i do ardaas at home or any other place other than  gurudwara sahib, will it be heard and acknowledged by guru sahib or it is always important to go to gurudwara sahib and do ardaas at gurudwara sahib for guru sahib to acknowledge it?

I always do path and ardaas at home in front of harmandir sahib photo or hazur sahib photo  and then for important things i make a list and go to gurudwara sahib to do the ardaas there because i think that if i do ardaas in front of guru granth sahib then it will be more accepted by guru sahib.

On the other hand i think that if i am doing ardaas in front of harmandir sahib or hazur sahib photo and redoing the same ardaas at gurudwara sahib, i feel that i am not respecting the authority of harmandir sahib or hazur sahib.

Because of all this, I wait to find a quite time at gurudwara sahib when there is less or no sangat  so that I can open my list and read and do ardaas spend 10-15 minutes on average to do ardaas. If there are lot of people, i can't do ardaas due to people in the lineup and I don't want to block access to them while i am spending so much time doing ardaas. If i leave without doing ardaas then i am embarrassed, disappointed and sad and then OCD kicks in.

Kindly help!

The picture of Harimandir is not Harimandir Sahib.

Best is to go to Gurdwara and do ardas at a quiet time. Just stand to the side to allow people to matha tek if they are coming in.

While it's true that God's everywhere, we don't have the eyes to see him at our current spiritual level so the patakh darshan of Guru Ji is important.

Regarding thy mind's woe, make supplication before thy Guru. p519

Before Thee is my supplication. My soul and body are all Thine. p383

Thank you for your guidance.

Can you please elaborate more about the photo of harmandir sahib?

Also, please elaborate more about pathak darshan of guru sahib

Basically, Harimandir Sahib is holy because it's a place of singing praise of God:

ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
Gauri 5th Guru.

Blessed is this place, where they sing praises of the World Master.

The Lord Himself Blesseth them with peace and pleasure.

But a photo isn't that. It's not the real thing. Similarly, a statue of a deity is not the deity. So we shouldn't be worshipping the photo.

One type of partakh (immediate) darshan of Guru ji is going to the Gurdwara to see Guru Granth Sahib ji. Because the Book is the abode of God:

ਪੋਥੀ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਕਾ ਥਾਨੁ ॥
This Holy Book (the Adi Granth) is the abode of the Transcendent Lord.

Whosoever sings the World-Lord's praise in the society of the saints, he is blessed with the perfect Divine knowledge. Pause. p1226

There is another level of Darshan which Guru ji pines for and which is above merely going to the Gurdwara:

ਕਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਮਇਆ ਦਇਆਲ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹੋਹੁ ਦੀਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਰਾ ॥
Show compassion and kindness, O Merciful Lord, and by king to the meek.
Supplicates Nanak, I am thirsting for a sight of Thee. By obtaining a view of Thine I receive all the happiness.

This Darshan is found through Bani and worship:
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਤੇਰੀ ॥
My Lord God! Thy Gurubani is Nectar.

By continuously hearing it, I have obtained the highest rank.

The burning within me is extinguished and my soul is rendered cool on having the sight of the True Guru

Good point. In fact, in the old days, there simply were not enough birs of Gur Granth Sahib ji to go around. So prakash of shasters was done in some Gurdwaras.

You can matha tek to a Gutka Sahib, too.

    • There are only 4 castes in India and Jatt isn't one of them. "Jatt" is a sub-community within a caste, not a caste itself. And we (I'm jatt so don't call me offensive lol) aren't even that high, we only rank 3rd out of the 4 castes but have become very respected due to our presence in Punjabi media and the amount of land we own as a community. How is being proud of being Jatt "wrong" in Sikhi - we're not proud of our "caste" (we can't be cos it's not even a high one lol). If anything, Jatts have helped beat the Indian caste system. We literally rose from its bottom to people admiring our lifestyle. So "Jatt" shouldn't be a taboo topic in Sikhi until it becomes one (eg: making "Jatt Gurdware" like Tarkhans did)
    • Try your local Gurdwara, I don't know about you but one of my local ones actually has a board for it. And for some reasons a lot of Granthis out here double up as like the Pind matchmaker. I recommend you go for it but it IS sorta funny to those not looking at getting involved, it's like Name: Jaspreet Kaur  Family Background: Jatt Sikh (Amritdhari) Job: Finance manager  or  Name: Gurpreet Singh Family Background: Ramgarhia Sikh Job: Teacher
    • Anyone linking the "kenyan" style turban to Ramgarhia caste is stupid lol. It came from the Jat-only Sikh Regiment in British India (folded, starched single dastar without a pinch). It's called "kenyan style" as Kenya is where it's most popular today and has a lot of Tarkhan living there but it's originally from Jatts in India. Dastar actually opposes caste as a concept anyway so it really doesn't matter.
    • you can use nrimb.com this matrimonial site is very helpful to find Sikhs and other matches for marriage in Canada.
    • Is there a need to insult someone's Dastar style? Feel some shame When you see a Sikh wearing a Dastar you should smile and think "that's my brother" ,not laugh at how he chose to tie his Pagh. Maharaj made a brotherhood in the Khalsa not a fashion contest.
