It would be appreciated if individuals and organisations who do write to their MP’s/Foreign Secretary/Indian High Commission etc – to please keep us informed of who approaches have been made to, this is to allow the campaign to keep a pace with developments. pm me who you contacted and this will be relayed to the campaign for you.

Standard MP Letter for Individuals:

Dear …. (Insert MP’s/MEP’s name)

Re: Panjab Singh also known as Paramjeet Singh Dhadhi

British National – resident of Wolverhampton

I write to express my concerns in relation to the arrest and detention of the above named in Punjab, India. Mr Singh is a British subject and was arrested along with two Indian Nationals, Mr Amolak Singh and Mr Jaswinder Singh on 23 December 2006, by Punjab Police. Mr Singh and his co-accused were arrested on charges of alleged terrorism and were accused of seeking to cause unrest in the Punjab.

Having followed media footage and knowing of Mr Singh who is a Sikh Preacher, it is clear that Mr Singh is not a ‘terrorist’. He was simply enjoying a vacation, together with his wife, granddaughter (aged 3) and family and friends. Mr Singh was due to return to the United Kingdom on 27 December 2006.

The three Sikhs have been arrested under mysterious circumstances and the police story has many gaps and variations which indicate that the situation has been fabricated. There are many loopholes in the evidence and assertions of the police in this matter, which will be exposed in the defence cases of the accused.

I am also extremely concerned for the welfare of the two Indian nationals who were arrested with Mr Singh. They are Amolak Singh and Jaswinder Singh. Both are innocent persons, who were tortured by the Punjab Police, who sought a confession from them. Not only is this gravely unjust but a direct violation of their civil rights. Amolak Singh stated on national TV (Zee News) as he was leaving court, that the Police were trying to force him to sign a confessional statement admitting he was involved in criminal activities, despite the fact that he had stated to them that he was innocent.

I write to request that you make representations on my behalf to the Foreign Office, setting out my concerns and the need for intervention in this matter. Mr Singh is presently being detained and it is imperative that he be released as quickly as possible. Furthermore, it is fair to say that such matters have been ongoing for many years, whereby the Punjab Police fabricate charges against innocent persons for their own financial or political benefit. It is also the case that Mr Singh was tortured whilst in police custody, he declared this on national TV (Zee News). This poses an uncertainty for any British subject who now seeks to travel in Punjab, as if this matter is not addressed by the Foreign office, it sends a clear message to the Punjab Police that they can arrest and torture British subjects and not have to deal with their illegal actions. This is something which directly affects all Punjabi’s and Sikhs in the UK and indeed around the world.

I would like you to make delegations to the Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett and the Indian High Commission (India House Aldwych London WC2B 4NA) requesting that:

1) Panjab Singh (also known as Paramjeet Singh Dhadhi), Amolak Singh and Jasvinder Singh are all given a fair trial, without unnecessary harassment and/or torture;

2) That the accusations of torture be investigated by an independent inquiry;

3) That dialogue be maintained throughout the proceedings to ensure justice.

I look forward to hearing from you in respect of the above and should be grateful if you would forward to me copies of the representations you make to the Foreign Office and Indian High Commission.

I thank you in anticipation of your co-operation in this matter.

Yours truly,

Brothers and sisters there are three Sikhs in prison with the Punjab Police doing who knows what to them and it'd be sad around the Gurpurab of Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj if we were unwilling to even send a quick letter because we were too busy debating over whether to bow to pictures. So thank youuuu to those who have/are emailing a letter to their local MPs. The MPs are responding positively so please do send a letter as it will make a difference and literally only takes 2 minuites max :TH:

When those Muslims from Tipton were arrested the media had a frenzy and the BBC West Midlands news team could not go a few weeks without mentioning the "poor innocent" Tipton boys stuck in Guatanamo and interviewing senior US officials. Blair and co also went out on a limb to get them back to the UK.

Now we have a Sikh (UK citizen just like the Tipton Muslims) and the media in the West Midlands from where Paramjit Dhaddi is from have not covered anything. No politicians are making any noises about the arrest.

It would be interesting to know what exactly the Sikh Federation have done to get the news (especially the false charges and torture) in the public domain and to get the Government working to get the men released.

Yup this is expected. I bet if Mann Bheva wala or Ranjit Dhadrian had been arrested the thread would be onto page 30 by now. These Sant Brahmgianis all have links to top officials so why do they not intervene ?

Waste of time writing to the HCI. They will just bin it. Better off emailing following (but they are also Indian so no doubt their email accounts will not be working).

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
