    AKHAND JAAP VISION...........

Many youngsters cannot relate to kirtan because they do not know the words or what they mean. Naam Simran is so easy to participate in, regardless of education, knowledge of Gurbani or religious perspective.

By simply singing and repeating the word "Vaheguru", even small children can join in and feel the power of collective prayer in the Sadh Sangat.

The vision of the Akhand Jaap team is to create an atmosphere within which every soul participating can benefit and enjoy fully without limitations.

We hope that the 'ripple' effect will spread peace and goodwill as far as possible. With the blessings of our beloved Guru and participation of the holy Sadh Sangat, we can make a difference.

    What is an Akhand Jaap?

A literal translation of 'Akhand Jaap' is the continuous meditation without interruption. The 24 hour Akhand Jaap - Prayer for Peace is an event which is held twice a year at various locations around the UK with a simple aim: to complete 24 hours of non-stop 'Waheguru' Jaap concluding with an Ardas for Peace. Sikh youth from across the UK work together to organise the Akhand Jaap, and the open kitchen, 'Langar' serves food to the congregation throughout the day.

With the grace of the Lord, Sikh youth have so far organised twelve successful events, with children as young as four years of age actively leading the simran in the Saadh Sangat.

    Who partakes in these events?

The organisation of these events is undertaken and overseen by the youth. There is no restriction on who can partake and we have been blessed with the participation of people from different faiths joining in with the meditation. It is a humble effort from the next generation of Sikhs to actively take a positive role not only for our community but for the benefit of mankind as a whole.

The programmes, which have been taking place since 2001 have served as a means to unite the various Jathas, Gurdwaras, and Organisations representing the Sikh community in the United Kingdom. In addition it has introduced non-Sikhs to the traditions of the Sikh faith. Akhand Jaaps are open to all and generally have an atmosphere of community cooperation, devotion and peace.

    Previous events

We have made an effort to move the Akhand Jaaps to various locations within the UK, in order to allow for the youth to participate at a national level with this Seva:

Akhand Jaap 1-3: Singh Sabha Gurdwara, Ilford, Essex (2001-02)

  5. Kirtan - Bhai Lall Ji & Jatha. Bhai Lall Ji is the actual 17th generation muslim descendant of Bhai Mardana Ji (1459-1534). Bhai Mardana Ji was a follower and travelling companion of the Sikh founder Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaaj. He was with Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaaj in all of his journeys across India and Asia, which was for around fifty-four years. Bhai Mardana Ji used to play the string instrument, the Rabab, while Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaaj would sing shahads, paath etc. Some of Bhai Mardana Ji's shabads are in Sri Guru Granth Saihb Ji. The very first raagi acknowleged in Sikh history was Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaajs trusted friend and companion, Bhai Mardana Ji.

Bhai Lall Ji is a very knowledgeable muslim on Sikhism. He knows most of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji by heart. His father was the Hazoori Ragi at Goindwal Sahib. Bhai Lal ji is devoted to the kirtan traditions of Gurmat Sangeet. In the video his brother, Bhai Irshad and cousin are accompaning him. The video was taken in Southall, London, United Kingdom in the 1970s. These are very rare videos.
