haha, nei ji
sada means forever not everyone
the vishram on that line goes: nanak bhagta sada vigas
this is often seen in south asian poetry, where the poet will in a way talk to themself in the last line of the composition
and i dont think maharaj would refer to themself as a bhagat either, they always in bani esp. refer to themself as dasso or simply nanak
You have not answered the question and fyi, inferring oneself as the third person, is not a 'South Asian poetry'. It is actually Punjabi, started with Baba Farid. Read Baba Farids Slokas. He was Punjabs first poet.
If sada means everyone, then "Nanak Bhagta Sada Vigas" should logically translate to through Nanak the Bhagat everyone obtains bliss. Can anybody confirm ?
That translation is not correct either. It should be,
By listening (to God's name), knowledge of religious texts (shastras, Simirites, Vedas, along with all others) is obtained
I suspected as such. I was shocked to see our SGGS claiming superior status to Vedas.

Dear all, I'm hoping a Sikh scholar can shed some light here as I believe the following translation may be wrong.
Listening-the Shaastras, the Simritees and the Vedas.
<A class=dict onmouseover="ddrivetip('iNānak /i The first Guru of the Sikhs, the founder of Sikhism', 250)" onmouseout=hideddrivetip() href="http://www.srigranth.org/servlet/gurbani.dictionary?Param=ਨਾਨਕ" ;>ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਵਿਗਾਸੁ ॥
Nānak bẖagṯā saḏā vigās.
O Nanak, the devotees are forever in bliss.

I believe "Nanak bhagta sada vigas" translates to listening to the "Bhagat Nanak, everyone obtains bliss"
Am I right ?

Chatanga, maafi ji but there was no raag title at the beginning of this shabad, it just continued straight on from the last shabad by Dhan Dhan Bhagat Kabeer Ji, have a see on ang 1195.
Vahegurrroooo.
sikha, Vaheguroo isn't the same as the hindu god's of the past, for example in one shabad bhagat kabeer ji makes a clear distinction between Vaheguroo and the hindu god raam, saying that Vaheguroo is pervaiding everywhere, while the hindu god raam chandar pervades only in himself. The hindu gods are all just CREATIONS of Vaheguroo, they do not equal the greatness of Akaal Purakh Vaheguroo by even a miniscule amount.
Vaheguroo is inside his creation and can do what he wants with it, so he decided to reveal himself in one way, as the point is Vaheguroo will go to any lengths to save the people who love him and have faith in him.
My point exactly. I thought Sikhism does not believe in avatars and assuming forms. But Hindus use this shabad and claim this is Hinduism ? Is this right ?
Can we get an exact interpretation from a scholar ?
Thanks

Thanks for your reply. I want to clarify this portion of the verse
Parabẖ thambẖ ṯė niksė kai bisthār.
So God emerged out of the pillar, and assumed a mighty form.
Harnākẖas cẖẖėḏio nakẖ biḏār. ||4||
He killed Harnaakhash, tearing him apart with his nails. ||4||
Oė param purakẖ ḏėvāḏẖ ḏėv.
The Supreme Lord God, the Divinity of the divine,
Bẖagaṯ hėṯ narsingẖ bẖėv.
for the sake of His devotee, assumed the form of the man-lion.
Is this God the Hindu God Vishnu ? That is what Hindus claim. Would appreciate a reply. Thanks.

so what was the original rehraas that Guru Nanak dev ji used to read? And when was the rehraas completed?
Dear Kooka,
If I'm not mistaken, the SGGS was not compiled as yet in Guru Nanaks time. In Guru Nanaks time, there was only the 'Pothi Sahib'. So I'm assuming Rehars was compiled much later.

Is This Translation Correct ?

So what if it is part of South Asia ? Tamils in S. India marry their cousins. Can we say this is a 'South Asian' practise ?
South Asia is just a geographic term, nothing more.
Baba Farid lived long before they came about and he was noted to be Punjabs first poet. It is possible his style of poetry was adopted in Maratha and Varanasi.
Can you show me verses similar to Baba Farids Slokas, from other parts of India, older then Baba Farid ?
