Although the details are still awaited the two were said to be running a grocery store and were allegedly shot dead by the robbers when they tried to resist them. The reports reaching here said, Jagtar Singh Bhatti, 52 from Preet Nagar in Jalandhar city and Pawanpreet Singh of village Munnan in Hoshiarpur district were working at their grocery shop in the Indiana states early Thursday morning when the robbers struck.. As the two tried to resist the attempts of the robbery, the robbers who were armed shot at Jagtar and Pawanpreet killing both of them. The two were working in the US for quite some time. The relatives of both Jagtar Singh and Pawanpreet were in shock and grief after learning about the gruesome murder. While the racial angle in the murders is not ruled out, initial reports however suggested that the killings were the outcome of resisting the attempts of the robbery. Otherwise members belonging to the Sikh community have been subjected to racial attacks in US, apparently in the cases of mistaken identity, leading to death of several people so far particularly in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. Senior officials in the ministry of external affairs were tight-lipped about the incident as they were waiting for the reports from the US.
