  1. Slough UK Khalsa Schools Annual Camp Held Successfully BY SIKH24 EDITORS / IN EUROPE, WORLD / AUGUST 13, 2014 SLOUGH, UK (August 13, 2014)The Slough Khalsa School Trust successfully held an annual camp which saw the attendance of over 300 Sikhs from the community. The daily family camp, held from August 4 to 6, aimed to engage 6-17 year olds within the local Sikh community. Guest speakers including Manvir Singh, Vijay Singh, Baljit Singh, Roop Singh, and Raghbir Singh - came from all over the UK in order to teach and inspire campers about the Sikh faith. In addition to learning about Sikhi, campers enjoyed a broad range of activities, including go-karting, water zorbing, scouts and a falconry bird display. Campers were also given the opportunity to enjoy a day trip to a Bournemouth seaside. The theme of the camp this year was remembrance, in memory of the many Sikh soldiers who laid down their lives for the British during World War 1. Campers performed a meaningful and touching rap song in memory of the Sikh soldiers and the British army. The RAF were also invited to deliver talks and to carry out drill exercises. The camp was enjoyed by the young and old, and in September campers are due to receive awards and t-shirts dedicated to World War 1 heroes. 2. Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa Refuses to Join Haryana Gurdwara Committee BY SIKH24 EDITORS / IN INDIA, PUNJAB, WORLD / JULY 30, 2014 KARNAL, Haryana, India (July 30, 2014)Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa, who had campaigned at Gurdwara Amb Sahib for the release of Sikh political prisoners has refused to join the separate Haryana Gurdwara Committee after invitations sent by the separate committee. It has been learned that Bhai Gurbaksh Singh was offered to join the committee but refused on the basis that he was seeking unity in the Panth. He commented that he does not mind if a separate committee is formed in Haryana, however his goal was to unite the Khalsa Panth. He said there was a need for religious leaders to follow the ideals of Sikhi and practice the lifestyle prescribed by the Sikh Gurus. He said the committee issue could have been resolved by taking all different factions in Sikhi into consideration and allowing different organizations to provide their input. He requested the appointed Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib not to prescribe hukamnamas under political pressure. Bhai Gurbaksh Singh is organizing a march on August 10 from Gurdwara Amb Sahib to Sri Harmandir Sahib for the purpose of uniting the Panth. 3. Allegedly No Consensus Taken From Takhat Sri Hazoor Sahib in Haryana Sikh Excommunication BY SIKH24 EDITORS / IN INDIA, MULTIMEDIA, PUNJAB, VIDEOS, WORLD / JULY 18, 2014 AMRITSAR SAHIB (July 18, 2014)A video has surfaced online which alleges to show that the Haryana Sikh excommunication edict may have been taken without the consensus of all five Takhts. While responding to media queries, Giani Gurbachan Singh stated that the excommunication of the three Haryana Sikh leaders was done after deliberation with the fifth Jathedar, who was not actually present at the meeting. The Sikh Rehit Maryada requires the consensus of five Takhts, however due to disagreements with the Hazoor Sahib Management Committee, its jathedar is sometimes not invited to meetings. In this situation, a representative takes his place. From the video, it seems like the Gurmatta was taken only in the presence of four Jathedars, and a fifth person was not present. The excommunication edict has defied the procedures set from past centuries. A large number of the Sikh population has denounced the hukamnama, stating that it was taken under political pressure from the Shiromani Akali Dal (B).
