  1. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh Singhs from New York and New Jersey have organized a Classical Music Concert featuring the young Tabla virtuoso, Surdarshan Singh (UK). The concert is being organized because there is no promotion for Gursikhs to get into the arts and music. These professions, passions, hobbies, are usually looked down upon in our community, and instead- the Gursikhs that want to get into these fields should be supported and promoted. Doors open @ 6:30 PM with an opening performance by S. Jagjit Singh Matharu (Sitar) and Jashon Singh (Tabla) Venue: Engelman Recital Hall, Baruch College 55 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY 10010 Enter at East 25th St. between Lexington & Third Ave. Tickets: Purchase Tickets online via: http://bit.ly/tablasolo About the Artists: Surdarshan Singh - Tabla Surdarshan Singh, a young, yet masterful tabla player, started learning music at the tender age of 5. He started learning Jori-Pakhawaj and tabla from Punjab Grandmaster Ajit Singh Matlashi and then went on to learn from Ustad Gurmeet Singh Virdee. After receiving a solid foundation and feel of the Punjab Gharana and its various Pakhawaj styles, Surdarshan went on to learn from the legendary Shiri Sukhvinder Singh Namdhari for 14 years. He vigorously learned and practiced the fierce Benares Gharana style of tabla, while keeping his Punjabi Baaj of Jori-Pakhawaj very much alive. Surdarshan Singh has received his degree in Classical tabla, and is now an enthralling soloist. He performs nationally and internationally accompanying maestros across the globe. He is also one of the leading accompanists in the UK. Pt. Ramesh Misra- Lehra Accompaniment (Sarangi) Pandit Ramesh Misra is one of India's most popular maestros of the sarangi (literally "of a hundred colors"), an ancient bowed lute that evokes the sounds of the human voice and is one of the most difficult of Indian instruments to master. He is the son and disciple of the sarangi virtuoso Pandit Ramnath Misra, and has most recently studied with the great Pandit Ravi Shankar. A highly respected soloist and a sought after accompanist to many of India's most esteemed vocalists, he is the recipient of many of India's most prestigious awards. He is one of the last few living sarangi masters in the world. Opening Performance by S. Jagjit Singh Matharu on Sitar accompanied by Jashon Singh on Tabla HERE IS THE LINK TO THE PROMO http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UO-ZIBnMqCw There will be no food arrangement since Baruch College does not allow food or drinks in or outside the hall.
