Some of the topics to be covered:
What does it mean to be Punjabi and to be Sikh? Is it possible to be Sikh without being Punjabi? Questions concerning identitiy, culture, religion, and media stereotypes about Sikhs will be discussed with special reference to leading ideas and debates in the humanities and social sciences. What is "Sikh Studies" and what is its relevance to the lives of young Sikhs?
Led by university professors at the cutting edge of their disciplines, the retreat will engage with these and other existential issues of concern to immigrant Sikhs and to Sikhs born and raised in the West.
