CAMPAIGN MEETING
DATE: 16 September 2003
LOCATION: Elmhurst Senior Centre: 75-01 Broadway, Elmhurst, NY 11373
TIME: 6.30pm – 9pm
UNITED SIKHS in association with NICE and other immigrant community groups is conducting a town hall meeting on 16 September 2003.
The aim of the meeting is to create a communal campaign against the problems that immigrants are facing in receiving access services, and detention, deportation and special registration issues. It will provide a deep insight into the frustrations of the immigrant communities. This meeting gives immigrants a climate of confidence, who have kept quiet out of fear.
The meeting will give opportunity to all immigrant communities to voice their experiences since they have been in the United States Of America. Particularly, regarding the hostile environment with immigration issues and hate crimes occurring in the street. The meeting will have an open floor, for anybody to make their case known, which will educate other communities and the politician’s presents. There will also be a panel of experts from various communities, who will be able to answer any questions that people have.
UNITED SIKHS urges that representatives from the Sikh immigrant community come forward, and share their experience. As Sikhs, due to our outlook, we are a very visible community, thus are very targets of hate crimes, which is why we must use this opportunity and educate others of our own sufferings. The UNITED SIKHS legal team will assist the community with immigration and asylum related issues.
