  8. Gurdwaras, besides being the place of worship for the Sikh community, have often provided food and shelter for people during times of crisis, not just in India but across the world. This time, things are different and many gurdwaras have been forced to down size because of the lockdown. For Sikhs and the larger Indian community, this is causing a lot of distress because they do not have access to a space where they would have gone to find peace and pray and offer services in the community kitchens.Inspite of all this, the Raagi Singhs have been fulfilling their duties deligently and sincerelyThe sewadaars had been preparing langars for distribution to NeediesBut we never realised, that they, who are serving, may also need to be servedWe are unaware that many of them are not getting their salaries since lockdownThe sewadaars who have sewa in their name and in their blood, who have helped all, need help today.Let's not forget that they also have their families back in their villages. They may be getting food from langar services but there is no one to think that their families need support to survive these tough times.Let's come forward and donate our daswandh to help these families https://milaap.org/fundraisers/support-harmeet-singh?fbclid=IwAR1tHK49Uo7lah77xmFt23feDLthKf7FWPqy_vUOK0T6t6JD57wo0ViyXvA

  11. The Guru Granth Sahib is the central religious text of Sikhi (Sikhism), believed to be the divine words of God to guide humanity through this life. It is considered by Sikhs to be their eternal Guru or teacher. It contains the baani (words) and shabads (hymns) spoken by the Sikh Gurus and bhagats (saints) from other religions who also shared the same core message. The standardized version of the Guru Granth Sahib is written over 1430 pages (angs). It is divided into sections containing the words of the Gurus and Bhagats in the form of poetry (baani). Music forms an integral part of Sikhi as it provides a color (raag) to the words, giving them important emotional and spiritual context. This is a visually minimalistic website to explore the Guru Granth Sahib Currently on version v0.6 http://granth.co/1

Online webinar featuring various experts and historians. 100 years of the SGPC On the15th of November 1920, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee was established following the dedicated agitations and countless sacrifices of the Babbar Akali, Singh Sabha, and Gurdwara Sudhar lehirs. The aim of founding the institution was to manage the religious affairs of the Sikhs and better represent the political interests of the Qaum. Join us as we look back at the last hundred years to see what has been achieved, and to engage in collective deliberation that strengthens our direction over the next century. https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/100-years-of-the-sgpc-tickets-113261219356?aff=ebdssbonlinesearch

  15. Here’s the thing. There are many people in our field who do not teach the religions they practice or that are associated with their family background. It’s actually a norm in our field: One can study and teach a tradition as an insider or an outsider. Where we stand in relation to religious traditions does not preclude our ability to study them. When it comes to the study of religion, both of these perspectives, the outsider’s and the insider’s, have important insights to contribute. 16. Every Wednesday for the past 15 years, my 82-year-old grandmother has had a standing date. She and 30 of her closest friends would celebrate birthdays, play cards and talk politics during their weekly sessions at the Sikh Center of Orange County in Santa Ana, California. Today the cold, marble langar hall (community kitchen and dining area) of the center, or gurdwara, sits locked up and untouched. And the women, most of whom are over 70, are staying home waiting out the coronavirus pandemic.
