  1. Rebuild khabran.sikhnerd.com

This was an old project where I attempted to have all relevant sikh news and blogs in one place for easy consumption.  I could resurrect this project as I think there is still room on the internet for something like this, though a simple RSS aggregator is likely too simple. Maybe you’d want to build more of a community-style site around the news articles being streamed in, or focus only on positive stories.  Should also add audio/video/etc as well. There are a lot of ways I could make this better and more useful.

    Sikh Resource Archive

Idea of creating a pure and simple online archive of sikh resources. This would be focused on digital collection of everything sikhi-related, with a specific goal of things that are ‘useful’.

    Timeline

Another idea that I’ve been kicking around for a very long time is to make an awesome interactive timeline of Sikh History, across all sorts of dimensions. As specific as possible, with lot’s of different features and types of data you can access. To give a cool and easy-to-use view of sikh history and gurmat. Something like this or this. The main part of the project would be to consolidate the history into something that can be consumed by software, including lots of metadata, and making it free and open to all. This site is a great starting point and example to follow – it’s also very cool so check it out.

  2. In multiple interviews on Instagram since his ban was lifted following a court order, the World Cup winner has spoken about optimism and hope. Harmeet Singh doesn't do many interviews anymore. It's not often that he's approached for one these days. And when he does talk, "hope" and "optimism" aren't quite up there among Harmeet's takes on where his cricket career's at currently.

The virtual workshop will gather an exciting range of Sikh professionals from around Southeast Asia to share their journeys and professional advice. And its for free!

The workshop series is being organised under the umbrella Misl and supported by online media portal Asia Samachar.

“We have the resources to help those who need help. But they need to raise their hands if they seek help,” he added. Bhatia previously had stints with AIG Financial Products and JP Morgan

One of the key speakers is Aswin Phlaphongphanic, the CEO/founder of international money transfer firm DeeMoney, a subsidiary of Thailand-based Sawasdeeshop Co Ltd. The other speakers are Tript B (healthcare incubator), Amrit Kaur (testing ground) and Jasdeep Singh Hundal (UC Berkeley)

It is now more than ever, a need for the global Panjaabi-Sikh Commonwealth to take a grip of itself, internally and externally, sensibly and intelligently look to reconstruct its affairs away from the debilitating chaos and disorder that has been allowed to overcome our institutions, organisations, purported dubious ‘Panthic’ and Panjaab leadership, argues Sikh activist-writer, Jagdeesh Singh.

  5. Premier Doug Ford was in Brampton today with Education Minister Stephen Lecce to announce the provincial government’s commitment to funding to build 2 schools in Brampton.

Of the two schools in Brampton, one will be named after Private Buckam Singh – a Canadian Sikh soldier that fought in WW1. The other will be named after Malala Yousafzai, a young human rights activist and Nobel Prize laureate. She is most widely recognized for her advocacy in education opportunities for women and children.

  6. Punjab, since millenniums, has been home to a number of ethno-religious communities. The region takes pride in its diversity and has always remained open to the coexistence of different religions and faiths. This ethos and tradition continues till date. In the present context, Sikh are a majority religion while Hindu, Islam and Christianity continue to be practiced along with other smaller religions.

In the mid-19th century, Punjab became a part of the British Empire and evangelistic efforts by Christian missionaries gained momentum. The first preachers came from Europe and they quickly created a local base with translation of Christian texts, including the New Testament and the Gospel, into both Hindi and Punjabi. The conversions were, by and large, due to two reasons. First, to remove the shackles of the caste system which led to the conversion of Hindus. Second, to take benefits that entailed from being a Christian, especially in the field of education and health.

Talking about basics this Shabad was in our school prayer book ?

    Wadahans, Third Mehl:

Ego is opposed to the Name of the Lord; the two do not dwell in the same place.

In egotism, selfless service cannot be performed, and so the soul goes unfulfilled. ||1||

O my mind, think of the Lord, and practice the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

If you submit to the Hukam of the Lord's Command, then you shall meet with the Lord; only then will your ego depart from within. ||Pause||

Egotism is within all bodies; through egotism, we come to be born.

Egotism is total darkness; in egotism, no one can understand anything. ||2||

In egotism, devotional worship cannot be performed, and the Hukam of the Lord's Command cannot be understood.

In egotism, the soul is in bondage, and the Naam, the Name of the Lord, does not come to abide in the mind. ||3||

O Nanak, meeting with the True Guru, egotism is eliminated, and then, the True Lord comes to dwell in the mind||

One starts practicing truth, abides in truth and by serving the True One gets absorbed in Him. ||4||9||12||

    Motto of my school was

Contemplate and reflect upon knowledge, and you will become a benefactor to others.
