Daasn Daas Kaur you are talking about the Conservative party. They did admit to the things you alleged. see stephenharpersaid.ca.

As far as Navdeep becoming a member of sikhsangat, I don't think it is possible. He is VERY VERY busy at the moment.

We will be having a keertan in the near future to celebrate this success. It might be this weekend. I will keep you posted. All are invited.

Thanks to those that supported and voted and volunteered.

By the way he is the FIRST amritdharee to be elected to Canadian government.

With Guru jees kirpa the campaign is going really well. We would like to ask all youth in the area and anyone else who is interested to please come out and help. The offices phone number is (905) 450-4644. Monday the 28th is the last day to vote and we need all the volunteers we can get.

This is a person who can truely represent amritdharees and youth as well. If we want someone in parliament who can represent us well then we need to show our support. We go door-to-door canvassing every day and there is a call center open every day where we call the voters. We need MANY scruitneers for the election day. Luckily we have had three days experience with the advance polls and know that we need as much help as we can get.

Even if you cant volunteer or vote please come anyway to meet Navdeep Singh, it will be worth it.

PLEASE come out and support a REAL sikh who can represent YOU properly.

Vaheguroo jee ka khalsa Vaheguroo jee kee fateh!!!

P.S. Check out his website at www.navdeepbains.com

I was at Tim hortons the other day and the lady at the cash told me that all, I repeat, ALL their baked products INCLUDING the bagels/cakes/donuts etc have egg in them. The lady was an indian woman who does not eat egg and said that because she saw my kara she thought she should tell me that there is egg in all the food there. So japmans Time hortons is hardly close to the "sachkhand" of fast food.

    Diljot Kaur:

Thanks for the e-mail. Newspapers often use informal, secular terms that aren't intended to be disrespectful but are readily understood by ordinary readers. In Christianity, for example, the "Holy Bible" is usually called the Bible.

The following article was in the Toronto Star today:

    http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentSe...ol=968793972154

Guru Jee is reffered to as a book:

"The books leave the Golden Temple Saturday with pomp and ceremony"

"The books arrive at 8 a.m. Sunday at Pearson airport..."

"Once landed, the books will be escorted under the protection of parasols to three buses..."

The editors e-mail is lettertoed@thestar.ca. Please e-mail her/him and make sure you add your address and phone number (they say that on the website) in case they want to contact you. Please e-mail them and let it be known, politely, that Guru Jee is not a "book"

    thank you

    In response to jkaur,

I'd like to share two Gursikh weddings i went to with you. The first was done with simplicity kept in mind. There was a rainsabhaee and after it, at around 4-5 in the morning the laavan took place. The bride and groom were sitting in sanghat the whole time during the keertan. No one walked the bride in, turns out women are capable of doing that now rolleyes.gif and no one sat behind the bride and groom while they took their laavan. They were dressed in simple bana in Sikh colours.

Another wedding i went to was a bit different. The bride, groom, and their freinds decorated the hall that the marriage was to take place in, the night before the wedding. It looked spectacular in orange and yellow and royal blue and white. There was asa dee vaar the following morning and lots of sanghat attended. The wedding was right after asa dee vaar. Once again both bride and groom were in sanghat during the keertan. In this case they wore matching bana, right down to their siri sahibs. There was gatka right after the wedding and then a rainsabhee keertan as the "reception."

On a different note, the "yellow stuff" that is used was originally meant as a cleanser. People used to work in the farms and at home so it was used to clean dirt amongst other things. Walking the bride in to the hall and around Guru jee was used to show the inferiority of women. This same practice (a type of it) is used in western society ("gora wedd

ings") when the bride is carried over the threshold. My grandmother told me that when she got married her brother carried her in to the Gurudwara and held her, like one would cradle a child, and walked her around during the lavaan. ohmy.gif She said that she had one chunni on her head going to her midsection and another thrown on top of it so no one could see her face. In fact that is why she was carried around, because she couldn't see!

    Hope that helped,

Vaheguroo jee ka khalsa Vaheguroo jee kee fateh!

With Guru ji's kirpaa i attended this amazing wedding. I am shocked to hear that some bhainjees and veerjees havent been to gursikh weddings. Here in Toronto we have beautiful weddings. I have been to a few where both bride and groom are dressed in full bana and matching shastar. One of these couples did gatka after their wedding and the picture made front page news in the local newspaper. Anyways, I hope that all of you are able to witness proper Gursikh weddings in your lives.

The following is an e-mail that was sent to me by a bhainjee. It was sent to her by an anonymous bhain/veer. It is worth the read...think about every sentence and apply it to your life.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We need to learn a lot from the Gursikhs in our history...

How can you drink the water after washing the Guru's feet?

How can you clean the GUru's feet with your hair?

How can you sacrifice your mind by cutting it apart and putting it before the Guru?

How can you go into the battle field and not come out even if you are ripped apart ?

How can you work with your hands while doing simran?

How can you do simran 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year?

How can you see God in everybody?

How can you have no revenge, but always justice?

How could you have so much love for your Guru that whenever you call

him he appears before you in the flesh?

How could you have so much love for the Guru that you manage the whole langar yourself and even get mentioned in the Guru Granth Sahib?

How could you say that there are millions of other poor people like you - with the grace of the Sikhs your kingdom is established?

How could you get up and allow your Guru to chop off your head with his sword?

How could you pray that your skin is used as the shoes of Gursikhs?

How could you have your scalp cut off but not your hair?

How could you have your body cut piece by piece and continue reciting Gurbani?

    How could

you be cut on a spinning wheel?

How could you be sawed in half?

How could you travel all around the world to preach Sikhi by foot?

If your father gave you money to invest, how could you spend it on setting up a langar for poor people?

If you had been held in a concentration camp and starved for many days, how could you tolerate your children being killed and their dead bodies being strung around your neck?

How could you sit in a boiling pot, then a hot stove, then have sand poured on your wounds?

How could you walk and fight oppressors while your head is cut off and in your palm?

How could you stay underwater for three days meeting with God?

How could you stop a falling rock with your hand?

How could a falling boulder melt into the shape of your body and not hurt you?

How could bitter nuts become sweet by the touch of your hand?

How could an ignorant deaf and mute man become a scholar of the Geeta by your touch?

How could countless sick people get cured by your touch?

If you realized that you had gone against hukam by bringing your dead friend back to life, how could you sacrifice your own life and die right there on the spot?

How could you throw yourself into a fire if the Guru promised you liberation for doing it?

How could you lead 40 men back to their Guru in the battlefield?

If 40 of your Sikhs deserted you and rejected you as their Guru, how could you manage to forgive them and give them liberation?

How could you become the Guru's own bodyguard?

If the people of another religion needed your father to sacrifice his life, how could you encourage him to do this at the tender age of 9?

How could you watch your Sikhs being killed in many ways and then give your own life instead of accepting Islam and putting other religious groups at risk?

How could you be only 7 years old and reign the universe as the Guru of the Sikhs?

How could you be so wise at such a young age

that the Guru himself calls you "Baba Buddha" ?

How could you fight alongside your brothers in countless battles despite the negative stereotypes of women being weak?

How could you be bricked alive as a young child?

How could you cut the heads off five people and bring them back to life?

How could you, being the Guru, accept five Khalsas as your Guru?

How could you tolerate losing all your family and kingdom, be forced to live in a jungle alone for some weeks, and still sing prayers that you can't live without God?

How could you walk everyday at 1 in the morning to get bathwater for your Guru while being over 70 years of age?

If the leg of your Guru's bathtub broke and only a sharp nail remained, how could you put your hand there and let it be crushed into the nail rather than allow the bathtub to fall over?

If your Guru commanded you to eat the dead body under a white sheet, how could you accept the command and ask which side to start on?

How could you, being the Guru, tell a Sikh that your beard was made to clean his feet?

How could you hold up the ship of your Sikh on your shoulder while sitting in a hut meditating?

If the whole town was taken over by imposters and fake-Gurus, how could you recognize the real Guru?

How could you eat the leftover nuts from the manure of the horses in the Guru's fort rather than let it go to waste?

How could you, despite being accused of being an elitist Brahmin, eat the left-overs of the sangat's langar rather than let it go to waste?

How could you manage to have your own son's beating heart thrust into your mouth?

How could you inspire your son-in-law to become Maharaja of Punjab, and then fight alongside him in many battles against oppressors?

If you were the Maharaja of Punjab and made mistakes against Sikhi, how could you tolerate being publically whipped at the Akal Takhat?

How could you have the spiritual faith and strength to stop the f

astest flowing river in India in order to pass your army from one side to the other side?

If you were a Singh warrior, how could battle with countless oppressive armies, raid and loot villages, and have to rescue many young girls and women, but never once have a bad thought about them?

How could you fight to the death against thousands of attackers with one sword?

How could you live 40 days on a hunger strike rather than break your sarblohee bibek?

How could you spend almost 8 years in solitary confinement in a small dark room?

How could you put yourself on the edge of a well while doing simran so that if you fall asleep, you will die?

How could you start orphanages and treatment camps open to thousands of people regardless of their religion or background?

How could you work endlessly to protect the environment and the rights of animals in your society?

How could you do one akhand paat every week, every year for several years of your life?

How could you defend the Harimandir Sahib against tanks, helicopters and highly trained commandos with just a group of Singhs?

How could you get tens of thousands of people to take amrit in the span of a few months?

How could you strap a bomb to your body and sacrifice your own life to bring justice to the corrupt chief minister of Punjab?

How could you sacrifice your own life to bring justice to the corrupt Prime Minister of India?

How could you spend years and years in Punjab jails being tortured?

How could you fight endlessly for human rights despite the risks to your life?

and still have pyaar, still have faith, still do simran, still love Guru jee?

and Still sing "thera keeaa meethaa laagai"

    How could you?

If you listen to music that is not keertan you shouldnt be ashamed of it. Just don't be persuaded by it to do things that are agsinst sikhi. Try to listen to keertan one day and other music the next day and compare the two days. If any of you all make food at home that others are going to have please try to do sing gurbani when making it..it tastes better! When driving have keertan on in your car your journey will be more pleasent! I know of a person who is ALWAYS under stress untill she comes to the gurudwara...maybe because that is the only time she gets to hear gurbani?

If you want to know what a shabad means then go to www.sikhitothemax.com thats where I go if i am going to recite a shabad that i dont know the meaning of. Knowing the meaning helps to understand and concentrate on the shabad more. The more you translate gurbani the easier it gets as you will learn key words and the GAJILLION ways to say God! Some bani is easy to understand as it is closely linked to punjabi but most is difficult. Please try and understand bani before reciting it. Another plus to knowing the meaning of Gurbani is that you can shut up ppl faster when trying to prove a point in terms of sikhi! As sikhforlife said understanding bani is essential in sikhi. I'm not saying that i have it down pat but guru kirpa naal i do try.

So basically my suggestion is (not that its worth much) to try and recite/listen to gurbani whenever you get thet chance and if you are ever unsure of what a shabad means ask around or come here! I'm sure anyone here would be happy to help.

A bhainji in a different topic wrote something like "Why try to fit in when we are made to stand out?" As for gel on a dhari that just sounds kinda fruity. My masar ji went to the extent of getting his permed! I know this one uncle ji who does langhar dee sewa at the gurudwara. When he bends down to give water to the sanghat he has to hold his dhari back with one hand! Thats how long it is! I think that looks BEAUTIFUL!
