    Those living in Slough (UK) will know of SWAN (Siklh Women's Awareness Network) set up under Akal Purkh Ki FAuj (UK). I don't know if they still do seva, but they puplished a newsletter "Islam and Sikhism: A comparative view on women." This is what is said in the newsletter, and i believe is true as it has been backed up with relevent Gurbani;

    In Sikhism, the menstrual cycle is not considered pollutant. Certainly, it can have a sphysical and physiological effect on the woman. Nonetheless, this is not considered a hindrance to her wanting to pray or accoplish her religious duties full. The Guru makes it very clear that the menstrual cycle is a God given process. The blood of a a woman is required for the creation of any human being.

    'By coming together of the mother and father are we created,

    By the union of the mother's blood and the father's semen is the body made.

    To the Lord is the creature devoted, when hanging head downwards in the womb;

    He whom he contemplates, for him provides' (Guru Granth Sahib Ji, pg 1013)

    The requirements of the Mother's blood is fundamental for life. Thus, the menstrual cycle is certainly an essential and God given biological process. In other faiths blood is considered a pollutant. However, the Guru rejects such superstitious ideas. Thos who are impur

    e from within are the truly impure ones.

    This Shabad is by Guru Nanak Dev Ji in Raag Maajh on Pannaa 140

    Everything else is just a pompous worldly show, and the practice of false deeds. ||1||

    Meditating on God's name is of importance. Whether your clothes are blood stained or not (inlcuding stained from menstrual blood) is not of importance. Thus, there are no restrictions placed` on a woman during her menstruation. She is free to visit the Gurdwara, take part in the prayers and do Seva.

    When Guru Jee blesses you, take the chance.

    If your from the UK, i think there is an Amrit Sanchaar at the Derby Rehnsbai on 14th Feb, but i'm not 100% on that.

    I agree with MKhalsa. Practicality is important. A balance is needed in what we do. For many of us it is a balance between School and Sikhi. If we end up finishing our school work in the early ours, then we should take the opportunity and chance of doing amritvela. All you require is to do ishnaan in cold water to wake u up. Think of it as " Guru Jee has done kirpa had blessed me".

    For people like me who do nothing and are lazy, these are my only chances. and even then i want to go sleep. Thats how powerful your man (mind) is.

    Body rest is also important, otherwise we wouldn't be able to function properly with very little sleep. And wot abt people who do Roals at Gurudwara during Akhand Paaths. Some get up to do their seva, do their amritvela and then go to sleep for rest. would u say that is wrong? i wouldn't. Similarly, after Rehnsbai kirtans, people do their nitnem and then go to sleep.

    As long as u stick to your rehit of doing your nitnem, thats all that matters.

    but this doesn't mean baba takhur ji is not telling the truth.

    Bhai Sahib, i'm not bothered whether or not Baba Takhur Ji is telling the truth or not. But this is exactly what i mean, you say he is telling the truth, and i personally believe that Jarnail Singh Ji Bhindrawale is shaheed. We spend more time trying to make each other understand who is right and who is wrong, when ultimately our understanding should be of Guru Granth Sahib Ji, and nothing else.

    It's pointless trying to convince others that he is alive or shaheed. According to what Baba Thakur Ji says, if Bhindrawale comes back, he comes back, but I firmly stand on the decision taken by the Panth that he is shaheed, and i follow no others.

    Main reason SO says sant thakur singh ji we can't question some with gian or atleast ultra gian

    No offense to you Gabroo Jee, we can't question some person with gian, but why is that Guru Granth Sahib Jee is questioned periodically and nothing is said to the Babas?

    This is the biggest mistake we can ever make, have more vishwaash and belief in a person not questioning what they say and do, and forgetting about Thur Ki Bani.

    I've seen a lot of posts not just about baba takhur ji, saying

    " if he says it then its got to be true." And then other post constantly questioning why did Guru Ji do this, why do we have to do this, how come Gurbani says this etc etc. Theres a difference between Gurbani Vichaar and questioning Gurbani constantly.

    Everyone has their own perseption of a person, manmukh, gurmukh being either Right or Wrong, True or False. But Gurbani is never false and is the complete Sach. I think we should try to follow and understand this True path instead of following the path of others.

    I'ma a bit unsure on this. Are spirits, ghosts part of the churasee lakh joon and could we have possibly in our previous joons been ghosts spirits and become so in our coming joona?

    There is existance of ghosts, spirits etc Gurbani states it but is this another joon?

    Similarly, are jamdoots (messengers of death) part of the joona or are they just jamdoots which have existence but dont go through the cycle of birth or death?

    The Manchester Smagam is organised not by AKJI or AKJ, its organised by Sri Harkrishan Gurdwara and all tickets are paid by sevadaars there, not AKJI or AKJ. Kirtan is Kirtan at the end of the day, you can do it Akhand in house by yourself. Its your choice if you want to go or not, no one will stop you.

    The Panj Piare chosen should have the highest possible Jeevan in the circumstances. This will include Pakaa Amrit Vela, Reading of Bani, Sevaa Pakee Rehit etc. If there is a woman/women with a higher Jeevan then there is nothing wrong with them doing the Sevaa. Equally, if there is a young Gursikh with a high Jeevan and meets/understands the Sevaa and requirements of a Panj Piara, then there also nothing wrong with them doing the Sevaa.

    The Sevaa can be done by a Gursikh regardless of their colour, but what has been mentioned above aplies all the same here also.

    Bhai Sukhwinder Singh is from Birmingham, the one who did kirtan. Heres a pic of him, for those who want to see his face:

    Kirtan was excellent. All programmes were excellent kirtan. The rehnsbai was just amazing with all the kirtanees and the stage packed full with everyone singing along.

    Can't describe through words, listen to the kirtan yourself on www.akj.org.uk

    The website has been updated with UK rehsnbai kirtans and will hopefully be updated on a regualr basis. Pictures from the smagam will also hopefully be put up very soon.
