this is a matter of shame for our community.this is no way of protest.sikhs are not that weak that they need a shoe to make their point.

and if he has done something like this then why was he apologetic afterwards.because of this the global image of sikhs is effected.

if we support things like these it will come back to us in the same way..

the recent protests held have ruined the image of sikhs in media. now it is the same image which was there in 1984. and which led to riots.

we should not support leaders like sajjan kumar and tytler but imagine if congress wins in the elections . without the sikh support can ppl imagine sikhs will be of no importance to congress or the outcomes of the elections.and things which have started to turn good will be worse again. because there is 60% chance of congress regaining power.

Hundreds of Sikhs led by Kuldeep Singh Bhogal, member, Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), Amritsar, today gathered at the Bangla Sahib Gurudwara in the heart of the city around 11.30 am and condemned the ‘latest betrayal’ by the Congress government.

As per pre-declaration, Bhogal along with four other volunteers Ravinder Singh, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Avtar Singh Hit and Jasbir Singh were to immolate themselves

However, even before they could put their plan into action, policemen in plain clothes caught hold of the five men while they were breaking the bottles containing kerosene. The five were taken to Parliament Street police station and detained for almost four hours.

“We were taken by surprise as police had posted Sikh constables in plain clothes in the area. They pounced upon us and took us away when we tried to burn ourselves,” said Bhogal.

The Khalsa Action Committee (KAC) today urged the Jathedar of Akal Takht, Giani Gurbachan Singh, to take action against the SAD leaders, who allegedly used hymns of Guru Granth Sahib in comparing Badal’s family with the spiritual thoughts of the Gurus.

A delegation of the KAC, led by Mohkam Singh, convener, and Kanwarpal Singh, spokesman, citing advertisements published in newspapers, pointed out that it was height of sycophancy as the leaders of the SAD used hymns from Guru Granth Sahib in praising Sukhbir Badal.

The KAC also requested the Jathedar to devise a mechanism or policy to stop the misuse of Gurbani in advertisements.

Joining the issue, a former Jathedar of Akal Takht, Bhai Ranjit Singh, and president of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee Paramjit Singh Sarna condemned such advertisements.

The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has demanded that the Sikh and Hindu refugees who had fled strife-torn Afghanistan should be granted Indian citizenship.

'' We have taken up this issue with Union Minister of state for Home Parkash Jaiswal and he has assured that the government will consider this demand'', DSGMC president Paramjit Singh Sarna stated here today.

Addressing a media conference, Mr Sarna said they had brought to the notice of the Minister the case of 273 such Afghan refugees who have been living in India for the past 15 years or more.

He said these cases were being forwarded to the Union Home ministry, he added.

Mr Sarna also demanded that the 'black list' of Sikhs prepared by the Union Government should be reviewed by the Union Government.

A large number of NRI Sikhs whose names figure in this list are often refused visas to visit their relatives in India, he said while suggesting that the Union Home Ministry can grant short term visas to such NRI's and the DSGMC would stand guarantee for all such cases.

While pointing out that Punjab was still listed as a 'disturbed area', Mr Sarna demanded that issue should be taken up by the state government with the Centre. A number of NRI's and foreign nationals are not granted permission to visit Punjab on the grounds that it was a distrubed area, he added.

in the last DSGPC elections Mr. Sarna gave Rs. 500 and a bottle of cheap whisky against 1 vote that he bought .. I don't support anyone .. but yess i believe if someone can make a difference it is not these creeps..

paramjit singh sarna in a press confrence said that if badal group proves that sarna has even sold an inch of the gurudwara premises to anyone he will resign from the post of dsgmc president. in a letter to punjab cm badal. he has told sukhbhir , dhindsa, capt kawaljit and bhajan singh walia to constitute a fact finding comittee. and if they fail to prove anything. then all badal group leaders should resign from their posts.

if u do not know this area lies outside the gurudwara . thanks for showing this picture..it was ok that the dsgmc was using this space that doesnt mean that it belonged to them...now if the government asks its land back. how can the dsgmc refuse to give it...badal daliyas are just politicising the issue....they are just making a controversy out of it so that they get votes..and they have not sold the land...there will just be a NDMC board saying parking....thats it....

Sikh Marriage Act and Sikh Code Bill can give the community an independent identity and existence. The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) and the Shiromani Akali Dal (Delhi) stated this during a meeting with UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

Led by president of the DSGMC Paramjit Singh Sarna, a joint delegation of the committee, Shiromani Akali Dal (Delhi) and other Sikh organisations of the Capital met Mrs Gandhi at her residence to congratulate her on the government’s victory in the trust motion. The delegation placed before her long-standing demands of the Sikh community.

“It is not that we want something back for supporting the Prime Minister or the UPA. These are some of our long-standing demands that we had been placing before the union government from time to time,” says Sarna.

Though Pakistan has notified the Sikh Marriage Act, the delegation wanted that a similar Act be enacted in the country. The new law will help the community maintain its independent identity and existence.

The Sikhs have been demanding for a long time that they should not be covered under by the Hindu Marriage Act as the Anand Marriage Act of mid-20s has still not been implemented in the country.

They also want that a Sikh Code Bill be passed so that succession, adoption, marriage and other related issues of the Sikh community could be settled under the new legislation, Sarna said.

Sonia assured the delegation that the UPA government would take appropriate action to fulfil the demands of the Sikhs at the earliest.

Sikhs also want return of relics, manuscripts and various rare articles seized from Sikh Reference Library Amritsar by the Army during Operation Bluestar and annulment of a black list prepared by the ministry of home affairs during the unrest in Punjab.

The delegation demanded the construction of a corridor on the banks of the Ravi to facilitate visit to historical Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib, which is situated in Pakistan, which had given its consent for the project.

Sarna demanded the release of Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar, who had been sentenced to death in a split judgment by the Supreme Court. While deciding the mercy petition, the apex court had recommended it to the President. No one has ever been given death sentence in a split judgment, says Sarna.

1) implementation of the anand karaj act- the bill has been discussed and will be finalised in 2 months in the lok sabha...this will register as a sikh marriage...

2) granting indian citizen ship to 10000 afghan sikhs

3) remove the blacklist of sikhs living abroad so they can come back

4) converting prof devenderpal singh bhullars death sentence to life imprisonment

5) acquiring land for gurudwara majnu ka tila from the government which had come under demolishion orders due to illegal encroachment

all the above demands execpt regarding prof devender bhullar have been agreed on...and the left demand will also be accepted in few months...
