  1. I watched the video during my chaa da cup break.

    OMG!

there's another video on YouTube.com of the "Sikh" man supporting BNP. I couldn't stop laughing and smiling. Nearly spilt my chaa while laughing. Waheguroo.

    Check this video as well:

Waheguroo. I couldn't stop laughing at how the man has tied his pagh. He might be a "On off " Singh and decided to quickly tie a pagh 2 minutes before the interview without looking in a mirror or something.

    LOL.gif

Waheguroo. Better get back to revision.

  2. Possible template letter you can copy and paste:

    Dear [MP NAME],

I am contacting you in regards to metal detectors being introduced on the London Underground. I am a practising Sikh who wears a Kirpan (a ceremonial sword) which is an article of faith, part of the 5K's Sikh uniform. I am concerned about how these metal detectors in the London Underground and also some train stations (such as New Street station, Birmingham) will affect me and fellow Sikhs.

Legally Sikhs are permitted to wear the Kirpan and practice their faith freely in accordance to the Criminal Justice Act 1988. However, from past experience it is evident that security staff is not always aware of Sikhs, never mind the Kirpan. However, after explaining about the Kirpan the problem is usually overcome. But it is unnecessary hassle and inconvenience, which can be easily avoided with appropriate training.

I request you to please find out how the metal detectors being used by the London Transport will affect Sikhs and whether the London Transport staff and police have received guidelines and training on Sikhs travelling on the Underground, and whether the legal right to wear the Kirpan will be safeguarded.

Please reply back with a response.

    Yours sincerely,

    [YOUR NAME]

  3. Crackdown on knives

    Written by Paula

    Monday, 24 April 2006

THE fight against knife attacks is stepping up a gear. Police have been targeting transport hubs using an airport-style metal detector. If the detector bleeps, officers search passengers to see if they are carrying a weapon.

At Stockwell Tube station last week 205 people were asked to walk through the arch. One blade was seized and five people were found with drugs. The blitz is part of Operation Shield - a task force targeting knife crime across the capital.

Speaking about the crack-down, British Transport Police Detective Chief Inspector Kevin Shananhan said: "We need to stop people carrying knives and this task force is a positive way of achieving our goal. "It won't be easy but these operations will make a difference.

"If people know they cannot carry a weapon without the fear of coming face-to-face with one of our officers they may think twice. "Young men are the worst offenders. "They are most likely to carry weapons and therefore use them.

"Some people say they carry a knife because they are afraid of street crime or have in the past been a victim.

"But that is no excuse at all. If you are carrying a knife you are probably breaking the law. "The simple message is don't do it."

In Britain, a knife crime is committed every 25 minutes and 80 per cent of attackers are aged between 12 and 20. In a recent MORI poll 29 per cent of secondary school pupils admitted carrying a blade.

DCI Shananhan added: "We pick up people for other things as well when we use the arch detector. "People who carry knives are often wanted by us for other crimes. "That could be drugs offences or even fare dodging on the transport network."

Can Sangat please email or write to their MP to find out whether Sikhs will be safeguarded by these metal detectors and that security staff will be trained. Rab Na Kare, that Gursikhs are stopped and asked to remove Kirpaans on tubes and trains because we did get appropriate feedback and response in early stages of the decision.

    Subject: SERIOUS COMPLAINT

    Dear Magna,

I am emailing you in regards to a wedding which has been booked for 7th May 2006 at the Magna Adventure Centre in Rotherham.

The marriage party is planning to have a Sikh religious wedding ceremony in the Magna Centre, which will involve bringing 'Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji', the Sikhs' Sacred Scripture, which the Sikhs regard with utmost reverence and sanctity. The Sikh's Supreme Authority has banned the Sacred Scripture, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, from being taken to places where there is alcohol, tobacco or meat served. It clearly has been said that Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is not allowed to be taking to banqueting halls, hotels, pubs or bars. Therefore, this a clear violation of the Sikhs religious sentiments.

There have been previous cases recently where families planning weddings have disregarded the sanctity and sacredness of the Sikh's Scripture and have violated the edict of the Sikh supreme authority. These incidents have led to large peaceful protests outside venues with Sikhs from across the UK coming to support these measures, and also police involvement and support.

The British police have been supportive of the Sikh community. Recently the police issued a statement that a Sikh wedding planned at the Royal Lancaster Hotel London was re-arranged, so that the wedding will take place in a nearby Sikh Gurdwara (place of worship) rather than in the hotel complex. The decision of stopping the Sikh wedding at the Hotel came about as the Hotel was overflown with Sikhs from across the UK phoning, and emailing trying to educate the Hotel about the Sikh sentiments and issue.

We hope you will also realise the seriousness of the issue and prevent any unnecessary large peaceful protests.

Here are some links to news articles regarding previous cases which have cause unnecessary hassle to the Sikh community:

    * http://www.panthic.org/news/131/ARTICLE/1450/2005-06-19.html

I hope you take this matter severely, and prevent any unnecessary peaceful protests by the Sikh community from across the UK by not allowing the disrespect and violation of the Sikh's sacred scripute, Guru Granth Sahib Ji, from happening on your hotel premises.

I would like a reply as soon as possible, as Sikhs across the country are planning to hold peaceful protests outside the hotel if the Sacred Scriptures, Guru Granth Sahib Ji, is brought to the Centre complex.

    Regards,

    [NAME]

There's a difference between SIKHI and what people claiming to be "SIKHS".

I know a lot of Gore who would say "I've been to ten "SIKH" weddings and they all drink alcohol like there's no tomorrow." What does this prove about Sikhi? Nothing! Gurbani is our indication for what Sikhi is, not men who are drugged up on cannabis.

    bhul chuk maaf.

  7. I've been reading the various posts.

There is a difference between singing poetry about Sikh history or in praise of the Guru/ Waheguru and TWISTING GURBAANI.

    Kachee Baani is the following:

    1. Changing the words around in a shabad.

    2. Adding your own words to a Shabad (even the smallest word like adding "Jee" to a word in a shabad).

    3. Impersonating Gurbaani (i.e. the style and presentation or using the word "Naanak" like it is used in Gurbaani).

Baba Ram Rai did the above - he changed a word in Gurbaani to suite his own agenda.

Another example of this is "Sant" Maan Singh singing the shabad "pehilaa maran kabool jeevan kee chhadd aas" as "pehlaa maran kabool "KAR" jeevan kee chhad aas". This constitutes as KACHEE BANI as it has been MUTILATED.

Sant Jarnail Singh Ji did NOT impersonate Gurbaani, nor did he add his own words when reciting Gurbaani. Same goes for Dhadhi Singhs.

    Bhul chuk maaf.

  8. OMG! After reading that news article clip I needed to catch my breath and say "WAHEGURU" a few times! Rab Bhalla Kare, Bhalla Kare!

It said in the news clip: "The annual event is held to commemorate the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev Ji..." and then I looked at the photographs which include these ladies which seem to have forgotten to wear their clothes and a young man randomly standing with them (looks like he is dancing with them). Waheguru.

Sachee, I've just had breakfast and felt queasy and sick reading that line in the newsclip and then looking at the photos. In the media world their is a phrase that "A photo speaks a thousand words". WHAT IMPRESSION is this giving to non-Sikhs of how we celebrate Guru Sahib's SHAHEEDI... what next? (Don't want to think about it! Wahegurooo).

I am not pro-Bhangra/Giddha in Nagar Kirtans or religious programmes but I got to say I would rather look at some people dressed in Kurte, wearing bright pink paghs, and a tambaa wrapped around them or watch some Auntian doing Giddha and clapping their hands rather than watching seeing semi-nude women which is embarrassing to look at.

If they can afford doing a Kabbadi Tournament, I am sure they can afford to pay these poor ladies to wear some clothes and look respectable rather than show off their bellies to the Sangat. Sat Naam, Waheguru.

    Rab Rakha, Sabhnaa Ka Rakha.

  10. Daas' suggestion for possible ways of Parchaar:

    * Panjab needs POSITIVE Gursikh ROLE MODELS

.... At the moment men, women, old and young watch television and films like its a religion or something!

    * Youth involvement.

... Be honest what is there to do for kids living in the village in Panjab? Gurmat Classes? Gatka Classes? Kirtan classes? Projects need to be started where people could involved in ACTIVE EXPLORATION and LEARNING.

    * Educate mothers

... Have literacy programmes for mothers, classes for mothers to learn basic Gurmat, Kirtan, Gurbani etc as well as basic parenting skills (i.e. how to communicate and inspire your children).

At the moment Guru Ghars in India (in fact most places in the world!) are "SIKH TEMPLES" (i.e. places of WORSHIP) when actually Guru Sahib made the Gurdwara as a place for obtaining WISDOM, EDUCATION, SUPPORT, INSPIRATION and CONNECTING with Guru Sahib.

The above suggestions are more for bodies like SGPC to carry out.

On individual basis what we can do is when we go to India and stay with family then use the time to sit with the family do Gurmat Vichaar, start a routine of doing collective Rehraas Sahib da Paath, Sukhmani Sahib in the afernoon etc.... Tell the young children in the house or village stories about Guru Sahibs. Ask time at the local village Gurdwara on Sangrand (the day when everyone goes to the Gurdwara) and do Keertan, Katha or whatever you can do (basically share some food for thought and share a little inspiration from Gurbani).

    bhul chuk maaf.

  11. I think this bloke has been around for a while. His vichaar are so PATHETIC that no one cares or is bothered blush.gif . However its worrying to know that he visits hospitals (no doubts posing as a Sikh chaplain/volunteer and instead spreading his Jesus views).

I remember he sent a few emails on Sikh e-groups but then I think he got blocked.

We should have "general awareness" but I wouldn't give this man more credit than he deserves! His articles are long, boring, and frankly I feel like going to sleep when reading them! (sorry forget to say that they are pretty silly content as well).

His website (which he advertised in emails sent on Internet):

Mr. Nijjhar's (dodgy and boring) website

I don't know much about this bloke other than what I have read on his website and this article on Tapoban. Does anyone have any further info?

  12. Practice makes perfect.

When at home try to sit cross-legged as much as you can so that your legs get used to it.

For example sit cross-legged on sofa when watching tele etc.

Gradually build up the amount of time you sit cross-legged and you will feel no pain.

  13. Can anyone help me.

I am trying to ENABLE the FIRE WALL on my laptop. However, when I go to Control Panel > Fire Wall and try to enable it - I CANT DO IT. The options are NOT OPEN for change. Instead at the top of the box it says this:

"For your security, some settings are controlled by Group Policy"

Its a private laptop. I had this problem since I sent it off to get repaired by Sony (which I weren't too impressed by because they charged me loads of money just to get the letter "o" replaced on the keyboard. chalo).

Anyone know what I can do?

  14. No. Its NOT True.

Its SYMBOLIC LANGUAGE used in CULTURE to explain the seat of throne being giving to another person.

For example when Queen Elizabeth II became Queen of England, the Indian newspapers wrote in headlines, "Elizabeth noo Raaj Tilak dittaa gayiaa" (meaning, Elizabeth has been given the Tilak of Rule".

Did Elizabeth wear a Tilak? NO.

  15. LOL.gif Bhaji I read your post and couldn's stop laughing (obviously not funny for you at the time! blush.gif )

Why was the man RUBBING YOUR BACK. Waheguru. And HE WAS A STRANGER! (I would have freaked out!).

In India when people ask me for money I pretend to be from India (which usually washes down okay). They soon back off! :T:

  16. Someone has asked me if I can help find out details of an Amrit Sanchaar happening near them. The aunty jee wants to take Amrit. The person lives near Reading. They are willing to travel to Coventry or London for Amrit Sanchaar.

They said they cant go too far because they have several younger children and so can't travel too long distance.

The aunty jee wants to take Amrit soon... so anyone can help then please let me know.

    Thanks.

    English translation:

The warrior who fights (vikaars, i.e. immorality/wickedness/corruption) on the battle-field (of life) and keeps them pressed (and controlled), does not yield (before Vikaars), and nor does he meet up (with them). The world considers that person's life and coming to the world blessed and fortunate, because that person conquers (his) one mind and renounces the many (i.e. renounces the many Vikaars). ||21||

Note: The above shabad is from "Baavan Akhri" which is goes through letters from alphabet and using the letter a shabad is given.... so in this case the Panjabi letter "NaaNaa" (x)is used to talk about "RaN" (rix), which means battlefield.

    Hope that helps.
