Sri Guru Granth Sahib (ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ, srī gurū granth sāhib jī ) is indeed unique in its thought, literary expression and the message it continues to communicate centuries after it was written. Exalted thought needs to be transported on the vehicle of language to reach the masses. Poetic expression lifts prose to a higher plane. When verse and music meld, their beauty and sweetness makes mind transcend the humdrum of rational existence. The sacred verses of Sri Guru Granth Sahib are called Gurbani, which means the Guru's word or the song messages enshrined in Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Running SGDVlite on Linux now works, search works. However Gurbani Shows "boxes" [][]. Copying the fonts from ~/SGDVLite/fallback to usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.15/jre/lib/fonts/

failed to fix the issue. Any advice on this matter would be appreciated!

If you download te new version of SGDV Lite , its working on Mac and Linux, atleast i checked on Snow Leopard.

There is a unicode font utf8 issue in Mac Osx, ( Unicode precompose vs decompose), you will notice it. I am working on it.

There are some minor bugs left to be fixed in fullscreen mode.

you can now navigate fullscreen via main app navigator, pop up navigator and arrows on the full screen.

Taking a cue from you, i have changed the title for Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji ' page by page' to ' ang by ang' at SearchGurbani.com at top level menu

Also to Sehaj Paath, please click on remember this page button, which retain a cookie for that page and when next time you go and click on 'Ang by ang' on SGGS, it will open that page...hope that helps

Finally got around to testing lite version on linux (Debian 5.0)

Installed fine, no errors using SGDVlite_unix.sh However it cannot pull up any results or display any bani. Shows connected to database, but gives a modal error "an error occurred while fetching results"

After the application GUI opens, in the status bar in bottom it says connecting to database, we need to wait till database connection is made before send queries,it could take upto 60-90 seconds i am hoping this is the issue.Once the db connection is made, db tables reside in memory thus application is very quick.

if you are not seeing any text under scripture tab, it means database connection not made.

we are working on connectiion and performance optimisation.

I'm running a macbook pro with 2 gigs of ram, 2.6 intel core 2 duo processor, and the program did not work for me. I was able to open up the application and see stuff, but was not able to get any search results. BTW, I'm almost certain that all Macs now sold have minimum of 1 gig, so you shouldn't have any problems with ram there. I'm certain that I have the Java SE 1.6, because I downloaded the update a couple of weeks ago for it. I wasn't able to get anything to really work, dictionary, hukamnama, banis, slideshow, and search gave me nothing. I was able to get the gurmukhi keyboard to work, but that seemed cluttered, and I was confused because it was all out of order, i.e., not in alphabetical order. Hope your programmer can sort out my problems.

I donot have an access to MAC. This software needed Java SE 1.6, which only comes with OSX 10.5. I have told my programmer to make it compatible with SE 1.5 which is with OSX 10.4. It is running fine on Windows. Minimum RAM needed 512 , prefered atleast 1 GB

1. were you able to install it.

2. did the application open.

3 It takes at present about 60-80 seconds to connect to database, as it has large db abt 300MB which resides in RAM

4.If you try any queries before that it will give you errors

your feed back is appreciated. We to work together to make this happen

Will do, I have downloaded it, just checking it out now, having problems with searching; when I search it says 'An error occurred while fetching the results' I have tried all the different functions with no avail. None of the functions are working. If you don't mind i could try and make an iphone version with the SDK.

so it should be out very very soon.....need to make package installers

Initially it will be Win and Mac, if there is demand , will make installers for Linux and Solaris.

The user guide is taking time but will be done by beta release
