  1. Jassa, maybe you haven't studied history, but 1699 accounts do exist. That too from that time.

    Its not because Sants or Scholars don't mention them that they don't exist.

    Sants mostly read from Granths such as Dasam, Sarbloh, Suraj Prakash, Panth Parkash (new + old), Bansawlinama etc or Rehatnamas.

    New manuscripts are being discovered in libraries, with Sikh families etc.

    I don't say this account is true, I heard same claim that there is no Aligarh manuscript, but to say that they (1699 ones) don't exist is not a wise thing to do.

  2. I am going to Punjab in a few weeks, and intend to bring a couple of Kirpans (14 inch and maybe 2 foot) and 2-3 knuckles dusters...

    The opinion of people is REALLY mixed. While most say its possible IN CHECKED IN Luggage (not handbag other) others say its not allowed.

    Most people say they covered it in Kapreh (clothes) and bhought it. Last year someone bhought in Gandaseh (axes) in clothes from Amritsar...

    Does anyone know clearly on this? And what is procedure if I can bring them...

  3. A Fake Bani. Along with other Bani's it was inserted after 9th Guru's martyrdom. Sikhs did good by removing it. IT is called Bhai Banno wali recension (which has many extra fake compositions at the end)

    Jit Dar Lakh Muhamda

    Ataash Aab

    Rattanmala

    some say when these were added Raagmala too was added (AKJ, others).

    Taksali and other Singhs maintain that Raagmala is Bani and the other added compositions such as Rattanmala were fake.

  4. A Good Sikh who is a star, as in film personality or something along the line.

    We have Sonny Cabberwal and Waris Ahluwalia, but they are not that famous (,yet?).

    Sikhs in Politics. We have got as much Punjabis (not Sikhs but still) in the Canadian Parliament as the Indian Parliament, quite an achievement, no?

    There are more Sikhs in UK, so it should be easier to have more Sikhs than Canada in politics. British Sikhs are far from politics, I wonder why.

  5. Mod note: Veer ji, i have edited sone of the post. Is it not possible to post without taking a dig at your fellow Sikhs? Maybe you need to do a Mool MAntar Jaap to control your vair? In future, please think before posting. Dhanvaad.

    Khalsa doesn't have a Gayatri Mantra. This and other mantars like Ashtang Mantar, Bhagauti Mantar "systems have been devised by Wily people to lure us into their web of stories and illogical systems and break us away from "prachand" gyaan of "nirol" Gurmat. "

    An interesting article:

    This is a good topic. In my humble opinion and from what I have read in the books of Gursikhs, there is only one mantra and that is Gurmantra. True, all Gurbani is Mantr-roop and you can japp any shabad and get rewarded but still Gurmantra is the hukam of Gurbani. Mool Mantr, Beej Mantra, Gurmantr, Mala Mantr etc are all referred to Naam-Gurmantr. What they call Mool Mantr is in reality Manglacharan.

    Beej Mantr Sarb ko Gyaan||

    Chahu Varna me japai koyoo Naam||

    These two pankitis mean that Naam or Beej Mantra roopi Gyaan is for everyone. It does not matter whether one is Brahman, Kshatri, Vaish or Shudra. This is for everyone.

    The second pankiti makes it clear that Beej Mantr is referred to as Naam i.e. Gurmantr.

    This whole pauri describes the greatness of Naam. The later pankitis of this pauri are the famous pankitis about Naam:

    Sarb Rog ka Aukhad Naam||

    Kaliyan roop Mangal gunn Gaam||

    Naam is the medicine of all diseases. Naam is Kaliyan-roop i.e. is provider of Kaliyan (wellness) and Gurbani (Gunn gaam) is Mangal-roop (happiness).

    I am aware that some Mahapurakhs have promoted the jaap of Ik Oankaar as Beej Mantr. I don't question them. They did what they experienced. What I wrote here (first two pankitis) is based on Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh jee's translation of this pankiti in his book Gurmat Gauravta. Bhai Sahib believed in only one Mantra and that is Gurmantr and he believed that whole of Gurbani is Mantr roop i.e. even if you don't understand baani, it will still cast spiritual effect on you.
