  1. SinghWarrior I too am from the Grays area, and attend this Gurdwara. I however do not fully agree with your statement "The sangat are hiding behind the committee, and the committee are hiding behind the sangat" Not all of the committee members agreed to the serving of meat and alcohol. In fact 8 of them publically stood up and rejected this absurd request only to be treated with disrespect or being ignored by the other 4 members, and some of the sangat. Some of the 'against' sangat that are fairly new to the Gurdwara or don't live in the Thurrock area and are against the serving of meat and alcohol have been patronised or treated with contempt by those committee members and sangat 'for'. They were told that they either didn't have a voice on the matter or didn't know what's best for the sangat living there for many years. To ensure a win, those 'for' also brought members of their family that do not necessarily attend the Gurdwara on a regular basis to boost their 'for' vote. As God's house, we Sikhs should ALL have a say in the running of this or any other Gurdwara, whether we live in the borough or not. All I can say is that there are many hypocrites within the sangat. On one side they show the community that they are holier than thou, reading from the Guru Granth Sahib, doing seva, raising money for the Gurdwara, and on the otherside fighting for meat and alcohol to be served in 'close' proximity to the Guru Granth Sahib. There may be a separate entrance to the community hall in question, however there is still a link through the Langar hall. I would also like to add that no-one has the right to hit another person, and what angers me the most is the lack of respect those fighting have shown in our Guru's house, a place meant to be for peace, contemplation, worship, and being at one with God.
