Sadly people on these boards are more concerned about burning hair and bigging up desi canadians than saving our heritage.
I think Amandeep Singh Madra posted this topic several weeks ago but it was ignored.
As a Quam we have ourselves to blame for all this destruction. We let the kar sewa badmash and others get away with destorying our heritage.
Look at the seva on the Harimandir Sahib by the Soho Road wale. To date Bhai Mohinder Singh Ji is still in denial over the bodge up and they refuse to communicate to anyone who questions the bodge up (unless yo are the BBC). I bet if a contracter used dodgy methods to put that fancy new education/community building up they would be issuing writs left right and centre. It is such a shame that whilst over the years they have found time to do numerous other projects, attend the popes funeral, go on tours to Israel/Palestine etc they have failed to account for the poor work THEY did on the Harimandir Sahib. All they have to do is appoint a suitably qualified surveyor to assess the work done but they are too stuck in their ways and busy on tours to face up to their responsibility.
..er.. unfortunatey some people on these boards are more concerned about how bad desi canadians are or critisizing someone else's job rather than doing anything productive themselves.
You are so right. Thats why I have emailed Soho Road Wale on and off for over a year trying to solicit a reply out of them. They did reply once telling me Bhai Mohinder Singh Ji was in India and that was well over a year ago. Since then I have chased the matter up but no one has bothered to reply. As far as criticising oes I will continue to do so as I have seen first hand how the bodged up sewa by Bhai Mohinder Singh Ji has contributed to damage to the Harimandir Sahib. I have collected evidence to show how the rubber membrane roofing material the brummies selected to use has led to increased damp problems which have manifested in increased damage to the beutiful frescoes.
As for desi canadians they are truly chavtastic people.

Bhai Harjinder Singh Ji doesn't do any filmi tunes... At least I haven't heard any... And Bhai Niranjan Singhs kirtan is incredible... one of my favorites... Anybody know if he's coming down to the USA?
Most of what I have heard of his sounds very commercial and filmi style to me.

I remember reading about a Sant (unfortunately forgot his name) but he used to keep the hair from the comb and do ardas and burn it. I will try and look up his name.
Also, I remember a story about Guru Gobind Singh Ji giving a gift to someone who asked for it. The gift was Guru Ji's comb with some of his hairs on it. This to me means that Kes is so very important and yet so widely disregarded.
I actually saw the Kanga in October 2004 at the fine new research building in the Gurdwara Bangla Sahib complex. I think some sardar (name escapes me maye the Bagrian sardars??) are custodians of the Kanga. Do you guys think that Dhan Dhan Guru Gobind Singh Ji Mahraj would forgo his teachings just to give a Kanga with his hairs to someone ? I think not. Dhan Dhan Guru Gobind Singh Ji Mahraj was not someone who just preached he very much practised everything he taught.

i suspect that is true, i have seen some gurdwara where meat is served it the langar hall they even sit on chairs and tables and eat it for example in southampton Gurdwara Tegh Bhadar Sahib St. Marks Rd it happens they eat it with no shame i was disgusted i asked for a veggie breakfast and they gave me a just a plate of beans? For a meat eater they had bacon, sausages, eggs & blackpudding.
The problem is education the mentality is the bigger the Kara you wear the more Sikhi you are, eating meat is fine but not beef? Its ok to drink but not smoke? Some people stay religous on a tuesday but other days its back to the wild ways? People tend to make up the religion for themselves and state they are Guru Nanak Dev Ji Sikhs? As Guru Nanak Dev Ji didnt state that a Sikh must have the 5k's keep hair or finalise Khalsa, I think they mean they dont follow the other 9 Guru's Or the GGS but yet get married in front of the GGS!

Read the 1980 Hukumnama from the Akal Takht which settled the meat issue for all those who believe in the concept of the Akal Takht and the underlying principes of Miri Piri etc.

to what i have heard, its a like a normal gurdwara but they also have meat in langar.
apparently my friend said that he went to southampton gurdwara because him and his dad were booked to do kirtan. when outsiders like kirtanis and raagis come then they make vegetarian langar. but udhaa they have bacon and stuff for breakfast (i assume instead of parotey).
i have not seen this with my own eyes - just going by what i have heard from others.

Well they never used to have egg in them and if they do I am sure it is unfertilised egg.
You had a veggie breakfast i.e. the beans. What you want ..... bits of paneer in the beans so you can pretend they are them beans with little sausages in them ?
I have not eat meat for more than a decade so go do one.

I travelled many times through Amsterdam Airport, I never had to remove my dastaar.
Thats why I wrote "I was asked to...." The security wala got a bit ar$y when I told him in the queens english to get off his ba££y and get a hand held scanner.

This is expectable. Remember a while back some <banned word filter activated> tha-khan was selling those rubber bands (like the Nike anti racism ones) with a khanda on. I emailed him to ask him to stop as Guru Ji had given us the Kara to wear on our wrists but he went off on one claiming it was all for charity and how others were geting away with worse things.
We have idiots like Jazzy B, Mika (brother of Daler Mendhi) etc happily flaunting the Khanda in bhangra videos whilst they letch and dance with half naked girls.
Vedanti needs to stop licking badals backside and take some important decisions. Those who host him when he visits the UK (Soho Road Wale etc) need to let the sangat know when Vedanti is in the UK and have an open meeting so the UK sangat can put its concerns to Vedanti. I hope those close to Bhai Mohinder Singh Ji can communicate this to him (sending emails to the GNNSJ is fruitless).

I have flown several times from Frankfurt and never been asked to remove my dastaar.
I was asked once to remove it at Schipol (Amsterdam) but I told the security wala to go get a hand held scanner. He came back f-ing and blinding in dutch with a hand held scanner.

Yes drop the ego and stop making up stories. The fact that a Kanga with Dhan Dhan Guru Gobind Singh Ji's own kesh exists is testement to 2 rupee preachers making up stories.
If you want to burn your dead keratin, your stratum corneum, your dirty kachera etc etc and pretend it makes you a better Sikh then you carry on. History and the fact of Dhan Dhan Guru Gobind Singh Ji's own Kanga has Kesh in proves what you are preaching is utter rubbish.
