I think that the art that was used is getting lost. It was Shastar Vidiya which Guru Ji taught us and blessed us with....Gatka is not even an art, its the name of the soti (stick) that we typically use in fights. (the one with the handle, about 3 feet long). I think over time we just started calling it 'gatka'...
Another thing is...these days we don't focus much on hand to hand combat, and that is extremely important...there have been Sakhis i've read in which Guru Gobind Singh Ji had 'silenced' people, by punching them out. ( i think one of them was when Guru Ji left Chamkaur Sahib, and some people saw him and began yelling to get the attention of the army to arrest him)...
we should know how to fight (punching, moving, kicking, blocking etc)...because if someone starts fighting with you, and that person doesn't have any weapons...i wouldn't pull out my Kirpan and stab him...i'd fight him with fists. But these days there is no parchar on this kind of stuff...just wear a Kirpan, and you're set!
...of course we can't do anything without Guru Gobind Singh Ji's Kirpa.

So true. Best art to learn how to throw a punch is boxing. This Shin Kin type stuff is complete twaddle when it comes to fighting on the street. Also keeps you fit. Another art that is very good in terms of fitness is wrestling.

Mr SinghSahib Ji, yes I know these allegation were made last sept, but they have been printed again and been on their site as they couldnt "do" anything from the last ones........
......and Harpal Ji, Sanjh Severa is supposed to be "....a leader in Punjabi Press..." based in Canada, and was the same newspaper who published other allegations against Baba Maan Singh, but didn't manage to prove anything....so it HAS been publishing these kind of allegations against Sikh individuals before!
A SIKH paper would try its best to publish things that make the esteem and reputation of the Sikh people higher, and concentrate less on defaming the Sikh community!!! :umm:

Let "Baba" Maan Singh take the paper to court if he is innocent.
Why has he not been back to Canada ? Scared of ending up in prison ??
We need to stop this process of denial whenever one of our so called "baba" is unmasked. "Baba" Dhanwant Su, head of the Noor Vishwa Ruhani Charitable Trust was recently sentenced to 10 years in prison for rape. As with Maan Singh's followers the followers of Dhanwant Su also were in denial for a long time the Akal Takht even let him off.
"Sant" Shamsher Su Jaghera of Ludhiana was arrested last year for rape. Again some of his ardent backers claimed the sun shone out of his behind and he could not be guilty.
We have some scum who parade as baba and sant and do undertake acts of rape and other crime. We need to stand up against these people instead of going into denial every time someone is accused.

Why not make your views known when Gurdas is next in England or Canada on tour. Also a few letters to the tax man in India to let him know that Gurdas earns a lot of money when on tour might be an idea.

LOL. Singh would not have got very far with Shin Kin as it is not a very good martial art when it comes to battles and for that matter defending yourself in a street fight.
Kick boxing and standard boxing are 2 of the best fighting skills you can learn. Shin Kin does not even come close.

The first 3-4 Post on this Thread was nothing but Cussin and filled with Hatred/Anger. Is this what your Guru teaches you, to lose you mind over something that can be taken care of without getting all hyped over. NOt everyone in this world is aware of Sikhs, nor do they think it is a big d
eal. Some people do not find it offensive, lets not go off on them because they didn't consider Sikhs feelings when they posted them up.
Email them back. Im talking to YOU the Admins of this Site. NOTICE in the Response of their email they mentioned Waheguru.com, not the individual. It is obvious those culprits mentioned this site and thier association with it. It is YOUR responsibility to clear the name of YOUR website.
Email them back and ask for the Emails of those Individuals who, IE:Threatened in ANY way, Used Vulger Language, anything that THEY found offensive. Compare the Emails, the IP Addressed Do something, even if you can't catch them, do something to prevent his from happening.
If it is OK for SIKHS to be offended and So it is for them to be Offended. If they can take care of what Ya'll ASKed them to do and they did by removing it from their Site. Now it is your Responsibility to Take Action towards those who Insulted them INTENTIONALLY. If no Action is taken against those individual, Mark My Word this WILL happen again and again.

Doubt anything will be done. I have pasted the PM I received which I bought to the attention of admin. I have blanked the vulgar word this person used. It is people like this who bring shame on Sikhi and on Khalistan.
Sad thing is he does not even know what half the vulgar words he uses actually mean. If he said the word he used to any one in Punjab as openly as he did, he would get a good beating or at the least a good slap.

It might be an idea for admin to ban users who swear. Just last week I sent a user a PM highlighting the word he was using was very vulgar.
He sent me a PM telling me to STFU. I informed admin but the perosn has not been banned. It is such people who need to be banned.

Sampat paat is brahmanical idea of puuja worship taken on by some Sikh Jathebandi's, it was passed on from the mahants or nirmalee sants proabably around 1920's 30 or maybe even earlier. It's not gurmat to do sampat paath, if it was so important our Guru Sahiban would've written those insturctions or written bani in such a way so that we do sampat. You will find a lot brahmins do sampat paths when they do puja of geeta.There is no mention of doing sampat paat as per rehat maryada from the akaal takt. Akand paat is just continous reading of gurbani in 2.5 days. Whereas the sampat boyz when they dod akand paat with the sampat effect , they read one line and then read satnam whaeguru and then read another line and repeat satnaam waheguru, in this way it takes longer say 7-10 days. And of course the promoters of this type of paat feel special at the end of it becasue it was with sampat.
Paat is paat, we are to do it with vichaar and understanding and then bring about practical changes in one's life according to the teachings and principles laid down in Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. If you can listen to vichaar (cassette) from Giani Gurbakash Singh Ji Gulshan on Akand path.He's really done the homework on this topic

Agree with most your points. Why would our Guru Ji write our Guru Granth Sahib Ji in the form it is and not write it how sampat path are performed.
I think it is a kewl thing for the Giani as well as it means they get to do a few more roal so get paid a bit extra for a sampat path than for a Akhand Path.

yes there is a great one being built it is costing millions it is in bulding stage should take two years but not to scale and there is one gurdwara in the town but it does not have enough facilites and space as the sikh of the town need it is costing in the region of millions!
If there is already one in town and one being built why is a third one needed ?
Spend the money on something that will benefit the Sikh Quam like paying for Sikh Orphans to be educated at UK universities.

i remember the whole fiasco with the world heritage site thing. Is this similar? if harimandir sahib gets voted on, will people start taking over its preservation etc will it become a museum out of the hands of the sikhs?
There was no fiasco it was turned into one by those with vested interests and links with the certain kar seva wale who like to collect money then demolish our heritage.

with the filteration process the bottom part of the sarovar will remain free from filling up with mud and other particles which used to come along with sarovar panni.

For a second I actually believed all the SGPC hype about the water in the sarovar being filtered and "mineral watery type" and all that. Your answer makes sense.

Early last year there was much talk about water filters being installed to supply "clean mineral type" water to the sarovar at the Darbar Sahib.
Having visited twice last year and numerous occassions in the past I did not notice any difference in the water.
Anybody know if these filters have been installed and do they actually work ? The water in the sarovar looked the same as before to me (not that I was bothered or need "mineral type" water to take a dip at the sarovar).

Firstly, I am researching for television company which is currently in the middle of a production concerning freedom of speach. One of the topics of the programme is the Bhezti play.
I wanted to know if anyone from this forum, preferably from the UK wishes to express any views on this programme.
We are looking for opinions from all corners, whether you are for the cancellation of the play, against the cancellation of the play or if it doesn't really bother you. Please get in touch.

As a Sikh born, educated and working in Britain, I am only now begginning to become aware of 'subtle' racism rather the obvious physical and verbal abuse. For example when I was at school, I wanted to take O level French as an option but was persuaded not even though the my grade never slipped below A mark. My French teacher advised me against taking the language as an option. The excuse was while my written assessments were excellent but my verbal skills were lacking. Surely though this comes with practice and interaction? I speak fluent English and Punjabi and can understand dialects of Hindi, Urdu etc. At no time did I ever attend Punjabi school or classes but being part of the Punjabi heritage we pick up and learn so why couldn't I have mastered the French language.
On the work front I worked for a NHS Trust in London, even with the right qualification &, experience etc myself and other Sikhs were never considered for management and the Trust always picked white foreigners from South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, etc. what is this about? I spoke to some Moslems friends and they said 'funny that' because they had noticed and thought it was just them.
Then there are the amount of times I get pulled over by the Police on 'routine matters'.
Please post up your 'subtle experiences' of racism.
NHS is well known for racism when it comes to promoting Sikhs.
I remember going to the graduate assesment centre and the only reason they could find for not giving me a job was because they thought I would do better in the private sector. Strange that because if I had wanted to work in the private sector I would not have applied. Anyhow I met a person who was selelcted for the scheme and she left after two days.
Another time I went to a large Insurance company in Manchester and the excuse they gave me was I was not funny enough. Strange that because I was known at work as being a comedy genius.
I think for some graduate assesment centres they invite a few Sikhs to make the numbers up for their equal opportunity returns. They have no intention of actually recruiting a Sikh.

Even tho im not a girl, but I wear Jeans to Gurudwara and i can Matha take just fine? What are the obvious reasons?? Head covering is required to be in the Gurudwara, but what does that have to do with jeans??
What does the clothes that i and others wear have to do with the intentions of going to the Gurudwara.
SGPC showing how bad an organisation it really is again.
They are headed by a person charged with murdering her daughter.
Women are not allowed to do seva in Darbar Sahib and SGPC does not have the bottle to stand up against this.
They have failed to look after Sikh heritage.
They have turned the Akal Takht Jathedari into a joke where Jathedar are changed on a regular basis.
They allow SGPC elections to have reservations for scheduled castes even though Sikhi as taught by our Guru does not have a caste system.
Alcohol is freely distributed by SGPC members when standing in SGPC elections.
All these things and all they are bothered about is people wearing jeans. The SGPC are a total waste of time. What about those trouser suits all the girls were wearing a while back. They going to ban them as well ?
Time the SGPC was reformed and all the dead wood removed.

RSS and indian govt agents have infiltrated our gurdwaras and taken up high positions such as President, and others and they are ruining us, removing pics of Singh Shaheeds, Removing Pics Of Sant Baba Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa "Bhindranwale" from calendars, walls, everywhere, stopping PANTHIC confrences, and other "Khalistan" Programs, please pay attention and see into this...
This is a point we need to take action ON!! if we stay home and leave Gurdwara and go to have darshan of Guru Sahib on New Years, Vaisakhi and Divali, then we are doing their mission for them!!
Wake up please its time the youth took action and i am 100% sure that older PANTHIC Singhs will be MORE than Happy to support the Sikh Youth in this.

Can we add a few more things to discuss like :
The need for a Takht in the UK/Europe. (Seeing as the 5th Takht was not added until the 20th century there is nothing to stop the Panth creating more Takhts.)
The need to prepare Degh (Karah Prashad) according to Rehat and not letting people prepare it by deviating from this.
The need to cut down on the number of Dals, sabjis prepared for langar.
The need to stop these Shin Kin type martial arts and start teaching boxing in Gurdwara. This shin Kin type martial arts is really a waste of time. I have seen a few people who have done shin Kin for many years have seven bells knocked out of them by boxers in street fights.

This is not a white/black issue so stop trying to give it a racial edge. It is issue of a person being told it was ok to travel on a passport despite a change of appearence and then getting grief over it from an airport employee who had a bad attitude.
Sometimes there is such a huge culture difference that what may appear rude to us is not considered rude in that country. Take Holland as an example, people use the term Paki to describe asians. There is no racial slur intended but for someone travelling from the UK they will think the Dutch are being racist. Staff in shops and restaraunts in Holland are also very in your face, people from other couries my think this is rude but it i
s normal behaviour in Holland and accepted as such
Keeping a passport up to date is very important. If you fail to do it and get grief from airline/airport staff then it is partly your fault. The staff should still behave with respect but nowadays a lot of airline staff feel as though they are paying for your travel and treat you like rubbish it is even worse where the airlines have outsourced the ground services to other companies.

Please do not give me the nindya rubbish. Is it not low to leave joota food for your followers to eat as holy prashad ? Is that following Maryada ? Is it maryada to throw Amrit into a well and claim all the water from the well is now amrit ? Is it maryada to allow people to bow down to you and do matha teyk to you.
You obviously like the accused person so am unwilling to beleive anything bad against him. The same was true of the other two "baba" that I mentioned in my original post they were very well respected by their followers etc does not mean they can not rape anyone !
At one time baba used to be very rare in the whole of India now they are two a penny in Punjab.
What makes you an expert on sant and able to decipher that he is a real one ? From what I have seen and read that is far from the truth. Do a search on this forum for the old threads and you will see various other well respected Jathedar of Panthic Religious Organisations have also questioned the status of your baba ji.
