  1. i listened back 2 it bro, i posted my opinions on this on the "Bbc Regrets Over Nihals Comments" thread, for FOR SUM REASONS my posts r not being put thru by mods.

that janani @ 46mins is a disgrace, she shud b soooo ashamed its un real. regarding jasminder, i expect nuthin less from him, hes an intelligent individual, but screwed up RSS views on our religion. Also did u hear his challenge 2 sikh parcharaks? He sed basically he cud prove within 3 minutes that sikhi is same as hinduism, and cud defeat anyones argument. Knowing them, the bbc wud probably get nidar singh 2 try and counter him,LOL, I BET U ANY MONEY!

They shud get bhai navreet/bhai manvir or bhai sukha singh 2 argue with him.

btw im proud it was my txt 2 nihal which has sparked that telegraph article.

  2. They've just had Jasminder on the radio saying Sikhi and Hinduism is the same. Nihal sits back and let's him come out with his nonsense, and the smirk on his face after Jasminder's diatribe was clear to hear even on the radio.

They've done it again. What a load of crap. I've sent a text message in to make my objections clear.

He would never allow a random caller to say Islam was an "hot-potch" of the pagan Arabian, moon-worshipping culture of the time as well as Christianity, but he sits back and allows a caller to say such things about the Sikh faith.

EDIT: He was obviously never going to read it out as it was criticising him in a calm and non-threatening manner, but I'm sure he read it to himself. As long as he's aware that listeners are aware of the situation regarding the original "hot-potch" issue (and the BBC's reaction to it), and that his shows are being listened to very carefully for future indiscretions, then I guess that's a start.

If anything, this has really spurred me into learning about other faiths, particularly Hinduism, so I can at least argue and debate with somebody who attempts to confuse and mislead. His (the caller's) assertion that the Mool Mantar was very similar to the first verse from the first page of the Vedas (or something similar) sounded believable even to me - imagine the seeds of doubt that have been sewed into the mind of someone learning about Sikhi or even wavering in their belief?

yo paaji, jus listened 2 todays show, to be fair, nihal did question jasminder if that is true and sed that hinduism n sikhi r diffrnt religions, then jasminder blabbered on and said they are the same. Maybe nihal is slightly shook from the recent complaints.

here is the show - http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01hmzb5 (listen from 25 mins onwards).

  3. oh man jus had a look on twitter, and its got ppl very riled up, and jus saw that sikh channel will be havin a discussion on this now, shud i feel guilty now? Even tho he insulted sikhi, and i txt in and then insulted me by sayin that he knew more than me about sikhi, but nihal is gettin sworn at by angry sikhs, i never wanted this reaction. But apparntly like kaljugi sed he above, that he allowed a caller 2 say sikhi is part of hinduism TODAY, AND THAT ON A DAY LIKE THIS where this article has been written!

damn man nihal jus aint gettin the idea is he.

  4. WOAH WOAH hang on a minute that txt message that was sent in 2 that show was by ME!! I'm glad that I have caused a slight storm, as nihal didn't even show any respect 2 sikhi, wen he reffered 2 it as mix of other religions. Some of u may remember I opened a thread on here about it. Well I aint "lord" singhs biggest fan, but nuff respect mr singh 4 taking up this issue. Also its funny as it seems asian network seems 2 have taken my/our side over nihals, by admitting that passge of radio was not 'satisfactory'. See we little ppl can kinda make a difference, if indeed anything genuinely happens from this, like nihal actually learning wat sikhi is. Coz I luv the counter argument we have at our disposal, that islam must be a mix of judaism/christianity.

  5. when daas had darshan of sant baba labh singh jee, mahapurkh karseva wale killa anandgarh i went to say fateh and touch there knee (which is less of a gesture then touching the knees). mahapurkh made me stand straight and said who taught you this...was it some person or was it your mind because it wasnt what guru sahib taught. guru sahib said fateh..do we want to do wat guru sahib said or wat people do?

in the same way another mahapurkh said that even doing matha tek to a pathar considering it to be god is not a paaap but considering and having gyaan that a pathar is a pathar is a paap. until we have the avastha to see god in all we shud avoid it because itt becomes a risky situation

well paaji havin jus read ur post, it reminded me of when i went to panjab wen i was 15 yrs old, and me, my whole family and nana/nani ji went 2 c johala wala sant (Gian Singh). who for sum reason my nana/nani & bradfords sikhs tend 2 be followers of (not saying its a bad thing btw). Wen we went to his centre/dera (wat do u call it, im not sure), anyways, wen we 2 get his darshan, i was expecting 2 jus say fateh/sat sri akaal, but wen i kinda refused 2 initially touch his feet/bow down 2 him my parents/nana/nani) started shoutin at me and forced me 2 do it. Was i in the wrong or they?

Coz Gian Singh himself doesnt actually ever ever ever speak, so didnt object 2 anything. Can any one shed any light into whether i was wrong to initially refuse, coz like i mentioned b4, we bow only 2 our gurus.

  6. I agree you with you that the problem is indeed arising due to anti social activities by a minority of Pakistani immigrants but as for the solution I reckon the UK needs to see how other countries have dealt with it.

Over here take Australia for example, if you do your homework you will realise Australia also is a very diverse country but we have always had a simple yet strong philosophy for the rest of the world

"Don't bother coming here if you don't intend to integrate and adapt to our culture. We don't want you! If you do adapt and make the effort, we will accept you as our own"

Now some may view that as racist but it actually isn't. What it actually is, is taking a tough stance on people who come to Australia and then suddenly demand special privileges as seen by members of certain minorities in the UK such as the Muslim community.

If Britain was seen to be portraying a similar message and would stop giving individuals from minorities leniency in the courts then it wouldn't be an issue.

What do you guys think about that?

LOOOOOOL u seriously praising australia for its multi-culturalism? Is this the same australia that has seen a HUGE rise in killings of panjabi and indian/pakistani students in the past 5-6yrs? Is this the same australia who has a famous soap like "neighbours" who recieved thousands of compaints from the so-called "indigenous" white viewers, angry at the fact that an asian/indian family were 2 b introduced to ramsey street? Ur havin a bubble bath mate!

@WestLondonSingh - good post, great article aswel.

  7. the labour govt is to be blamed for the constant faffin around and beating around the bush attitude. All this over population of useless/sponging immigrants of UK and stupid PC (political correctness) is coz of tony murderer blair. The police/govt have now admitted their fear in exposing pak paedo's for the past decade, coz it may appear as them being racist. Thats right, ppl's daughters/their families have been split/ruined by blatant paedo rings, which cud of been stopped, had the police ACTUALLY DONE THEIR JOB!!

even listening to the nihals show this week on this paedo subject shows u the pak/dirty mirpuri community aint gonna do nuffin, as some e-mailers/txters r comin up with the old chestnut line of "this is an opportunity for u guys 2 bash muslims blah blah blah...". then u get these disgusting PC goreh who aint got the balls 2 say how it is as mentioned in previous posts.

SHERE-E-PANJAB were right all those yrs ago, and the paks got away by tarnishing SP's name by hiding their heads in the sands, and hiding behind the excuse that "u sikhs have always hated us pak!s/muslims, this so called paedo allegations r make-belief".

If only SP would re-form (with younger members of course) again, then we can show every1 how its done.

  8. The Singh on Nihal's show you've mentioned is Navreet Singh and the Gurdwara is called Guru Hargobind Sahib Gurdwara in Coventry

r u sure khalsa ji? Wow!! if it is genuinely bhai navreet singh, because, i only just referred 2 him just a couple of pages back on tis very thread, quite a coincedence. What he and his saathis have done is so admirable its out of this world.

    thank u

  9. i agree with rebel singh. we need to use more english in our uk gurdwaras. this is to educate the ever increasing proportion of children from families where punjabi isnt spoken at home, and whos parents dont send them to punjabi school. sure once they have the link with sikhi, they themselves will start going to santhiya/punjabi lessons. our community needs to be more open minded and try every avenue possible to inspire people within our community towards sikhi. If you cant see that the current system is failing miserably then you are blind to what the vast majority of punjabi sikhs in the uk know about their religion, basically very little/nothing. one of my cousins 16yr old kids recently said how he knows nothing about sikhi. if u ever do seva at a gurdwara camp you will be shocked how little some kids know.

its true, that there are now frequently english talks in uk gurdwaras, however only those kids with a link to sikhi will attend them. To reach out to the masses we need regular weekly english parchaar in all uk gurdwaras on a sunday morning peak time. i bet if even just one gurdwara in the uk trialled this for one month they would see a positive result. Now before someone tells me to start doing it, ill be honest that my knowledge of sikhi is very basic still i wouldnt even know where to begin. although i am still considering doing this locally soon. we need katha vaaks to the level of sant singh maskeen ji/gyani thakur singh ji whom speak several languages including english.

well paaji, on bbc asian network's nihal show, there was a discussion on there about a year ago or so and a singh from the west midlands gurdwara (i cant remember which 1, maybe coventry of leamington spa) said that naujawan have taken over a gurdwara which was on the verge of closure, as the attendance every week was - 5-10 ppl every week! Then this particular naujawan and other younger sikhs took over the gurdwara/committee, re-decorated it etc. i believe if im not mistaken, they transformed it more into a youth based gurdwara (english katha etc) and with panjabi school (i presume). Guess wat? the gurdwara's attendance after a year or so went to 500 ppl every week!!!! This is no lie, i almost fell off my chair, coz all this time im thinkin english is the way in terms of speeches/katha, and i reckon this gurdwara cud prove a lot of ppl wrong.

PS - If anyone know s which gurdwara this is, could they tell us? Ive stated before, that i went a celeb Sikh wedding which was held at coventry gurdwara, and the katha/stage speeches were all done in english, and everybody was paying attention to them, and not their mobiles/socks. Plus harjinder lalli did his excellent old skool style kirtan which is in english too, using classical instruments, not a british colonial harmonium in sight. It seems coventry is the centre of sikhi in uk now, as ppl like Kam Singh from sikh channel/sangat tv has a initiative set-up called "sikh youth project" which is wat we r crying out for.

    thank u

  10. The Bible original language is Hebrew. Today there is probably less than 5% of Christians who can read Hebrew and then actually understand it. Speaking to Christains that can read Hebrew.......they have a real big problem with the english translations because the message throughout the Bible is lost. The Christians have split up into many groups because the english translations distorted the message. We the same thing happening today, with the english translation preachers. I hate to do this, but just look at the white Sikhs, specifically 3ho group. They don't know Gurmukhi (if a few do then still majority don't understand Gurbani) and they take the english translation has the correct meaning, then they come on sites like this and slander Gursikhs and laugh at Gurmat. I have one particular name in mind, but i won't say it because nothing is gained from stating the person's name.

100% true, also jesu used 2 talk in a language called aramaic, which i believe is practically extinct, only brahmins were allowed 2 learn sanskrit (even today), and that language is practically finished too, along with latin.

btw paaji, u shud name and shame the person who slanders gurus words.

  11. hey guys, on nihals bbc asian network show 2day, religious channels were discussed, whether they r a bad influence on the viewers. This in light of a muslim sky channel which had a muslim scholar citing ppl 2 kill those who insult prophet muhammed. The channel could be closed down by OfCom.

here is the whole show, VERY VERY interesting. Also wat was more interesting, the Sikh Channel/Sangat Tv were talked of/mentioned many many times.
