1. Its karva Chauth time again...

many bibiyan from Sikh families will keep fast and all that paakhand... no.gif

    I just know this tuk ... pray.gif

"Chode Ann Karae Pakhand Na Oh Suhagan Na Oh Ran"..

can somebody provide the complete shabad and put some light on this karam kaand of karva chauth..

  2. wjkkwjkp!

I think it goes on Shardaa...

I think most (if not all) those who have posted so far agree that taking off your kakaar is acceptable when boarding a plane.

Im not going to make a judgement as some of my close family/friends have the same views.

However, what i will say is that after 5 years of an amritdhari lifestyle and after a number of flights NOT ONCE have i had to remove my kakaar. Call it luck, plain ignorance or Maharaj's Kirpa or whatever, but facts are facts.

Theres a simple procedure i follow:

    1. Ardaas (ask for ability to remain steadfast and shastardhari)

    2. 5 Chaupai Saahibs (for protection)

    3. 5 Japji Sahibs (ability to remain Guroo Saahibs sevak)

    4. Ardaas (for protection and ability to be Guroo Saahibs sevak and for the Bani recited)

    5. Final Chaupai Saahib as I walk through metal dectectors.

Since recieving Amrit I have been blessed with the ability to board an aircraft without having to remove my kakaar.

Like I said, its about shardaa and having faith that Maharaj will take care of everything....

    wjkkwjkp!

Taksali singh I dont know how you are able to sneak pass those metal detectors..

what kinda Kirpan do you wear..

most of the times what happens is that when the security person sees a person with turban they also do one round of search and running that hand held metal detector over you..

it was never possible for me to get past that...

  3. i just took amrit this vaisakhi in India.. and while travelling back from Mumbai airport I was wearing my kirpan outside my shirt while I was checking in... the security guard politely told me paaji tusa di kirpaan vi checkin karni pavegi..

I knew I would be told that but was just taking a chance so that they know I have kirpan in my baggage..

I just did ardaas and kept it inside my baggage... and I dont think it will be possibe for someone like me not to eat while travelling back from india.. thats a long flight..

I totally agree with that some fake person might dress up like a sikh and run riot with his kirpan.. and thats the last thing we want... no.gif

  4. ok.. if you do a copy shortcut on any of the video links on that page and paste that to ur open url tab of windows media player. The link starts with mms: replace mms: by http: in that link and then it should work..

i need to figure out why that sould happen..

    Gur Fateh..

  5. http://www.damdamitaksal.com/multimedia_audio.htm

i wanna listen to some katha but downloding has been disabled, & when i double click on the katha, my windows media player opens up but i get this message......

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the specified protocol is not supported. If you typed a URL in the Open URL dialog box, try using a different transport protocol (for example, "http:" or "rtsp:")" :@ @

    basically i can't listen to anything no.gif

what can i do, so i can listen to it?

I just tried and am able to listen just fine..

was it working for you previously or is this the first time u r trying this link..

give it another shot.. and whats the version of windows media player do u have...

    Gur Fateh..

  6. eating meat is not the same as using animal products

    158624

    Both is hurting the animal.

Isn't that why we don't eat meat.

    158632

meat eating is a totally separate topic.. and has been discussed number of times on this board whether sikhs shud eat meat or not..

if u want to discuss the same thing over again please refer to some of the old discussions and you will get your answers and then decide for yourself..

    bhul chuk maaf..

    gur Fateh..

  7. per my understanding..

one can not preach something until it has been practiced ..

Who is a sikh : does keeping hair makes one a sikh ..No

does not drinking alcohol and not doing all the nashas and gambling make one a sikh :No..

does going to gurudwara everday and doing naam jap regularly make one a sikh : No..

It is a combination of all the above and love and respect for all.. that makes person a sikh...

so either one is a sikh or not a sikh..

there is nothing called good or a bad sikh...

    just my two cents..

    Gur Fateh..

  8. thats wicked penj that you not lettin it affect you....

i just hope that this has bought enuf awareness to the issue so that people change there way of thinking when it comes to such issues....

    as you say....vaheguruu mehr rakhan

    bhul chuk maaf

    vaheguru

    157804

    penji ..

i dont know how much awareness it has brought among singhs ..just by discussing on this forum between 15-20 people..

awareness can be brought by radical changes and radical steps by this i dont mean go ahead and start beating them up... those changes are possible only if our inner conscious is awake and we can change ourselves for good..

sad but true for many of us the conscious mind is dead and it is just material mind that is taking all the decisions and ruling us...

as everybody has mentioned keep the faith and things will turn out to be in chardikala..

  9. oops  blush.gif

    157668

I was in india an year back and in US where ever u go the probelms are the same..

the thing is that thr r a very few TRUE Gursikhs..

who understand thr GURU and know exactly why they r here..

many people just have sikhi saroop and have long beards bcoz they have been brought up in that kinda family and not because they have understood guru and know whats the meaning of sikhi saroop..

sad but true many of the amritdahri sikhs i know have jeevan sathis who r not at all into sikhi and reasons of marriage are only skin deep..

my only suggestion here is to keep the faith and everything will turn out as planned for you by Guru ji..

  10. i also dont know  much about  arya samaj but i  am not sure but do correct me.It was started by Viveka Nana saraswati. As  hinu religon is quite old, it  was filled  with lots of supersitions etc, arya  samaj is against idol worship. Very popular in Punjab. They do havan.

Vivekanand saraswati  was against sikh religon, accusing Guru Nanak of not knowing Sanskrit not well enough to write sanskriti shalok

    157549

It was Dayanand Saraswati who started Arya Samaaj..

If I recollect correctly.. while doing some puja in his childhood along with his parents he saw a rat sitting on shiv ling and eating the prasad placed on that..

then he commented if this shiv ling cant protect itself how will it protect us..

and so arya samajis are against idol worship..
