  1. FORUM RULES & GUIDELINES

    ====================

The SikhSangat Team has had a discussion about the moderation rules of the forum over the past few years. We have all agreed to the following moderation system/rules and have committed to follow this system for the betterment of the sangat and to provide more clarity about our guidelines. We want to make this available for all the members so there's no confusion as to why they were given a warning or placed under moderation. Remember, we don't have enmity towards anyone we all seek one purpose and all have a common goal. We want to make this site as best as possible according to gurmat and want to bring forth the qualities of gursikhi like peace, love and compassion in the topics being discussed, the only thing we request is for all members post with love and humility.

    WARNINGS

Two warnings will be given to a user to modify his/her behavior and adhere to the forum rules. Warnings may be given without any contact. After 2 warnings, user account will be put for moderation for 30 days. Moderation will be lifted upon the discretion of SikhSangat. User may write to the Admin (SikhSangat@live.com) stating why he/she should be taken off of moderation and how they will strive to make better posts.

    BAN

Upon receiving 2 warnings, if the user continues to violate forum rules, it will result in the user being banned from the forum indefinitely without any contact. User may write to the Admin (SikhSangat@live.com) stating why he/she should be taken off of BAN and how they will strive to make better posts. IF we lift the ban, user will stay under moderation until further notice.

If you think something requires the attention of the moderators or if any user who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to contact us immediately; please hit the "Report this Post" link on the post in question. This will send an ALERT via PM and email message to SikhSangat so that they can address the problem next time they log on to their computer. This is a manual process, however, so please realize that we may not be able to remove or edit particular messages immediately. You may also contact us at SikhSangat@live.com providing all details such as URL, User ids & brief description of your disagreement.

    LAW ENFORCEMENT

Do not post messages that advocate harm or death to anyone, threaten the livelihood of anyone, or otherwise harass anyone. Do not send email, snail mail, phone, fax, or other messages to anyone if your intent is to threaten or harass, and do not encourage others to do the same. Do not take your disagreements off the message board and into the "real world," and do not do anything to try to harm or harass any member of this message board in the "real world." SikhSangat will not responsible for any member's action BUT we will provide member's details and online activity to police officials if requested by law enforcement. This is fair warning to all members to think twice before posting.

    OTHER RULES

    ====================

    BRINKERS = NOT ALLOWED

I'm within the rules. Some users find sport in seeing how close they can get to being thrown off a message board. The Admins/sewadars will often have a set of rules (typically known as the "Terms of Service" like this one) which specify how people should conduct themselves. One type of poster, a "brinker", attempts to get as near to the edge as he or she possibly can without actually going over.

Unlike the troll, who directs his or her efforts at the users of a system, the brinker is actually toying with the SikhSangat. He or she can be a thorn in the side of the administrator, holding the good name and popularity of the system at stake. Administrators hesitate to throw people off the system unless they have broken an explicit rule.

    LANGUAGE

Although we do our best to cater for all, we do have certain limitations on SikhSangat. Language is one of them because you will notice the vast majority of posts are in English which has a universal base as it is one of the most used languages in the world. Communication is a problem in this world. It is one of the main causes for World Wars and poverty as well as in divorces and so on. And having taken these points into consideration, SikhSangat would like to request to all Sangat to please use English language to your advantage and post on this forum with language that every other member can understand. We all use slang language in our day to day speaking, but the advantage of this being a forum, means you can think longer about what you want to say with more time to express it. Extreme use of slang language is confusing to many members on this forum and will no longer be tolerated by moderators. Members can use Punjabi language in their posts. We will allow slang to a certain extent but SikhSangat reserve the right to choose the level allowed and will from hereon be moderating certain members more closely.

    ADVERTISING

We do not allow people to post threads or to send private messages or emails to users here that advertise or solicit any services. Explicit advertising in sigs is also prohibited. Advertising, spamming and trolling is not allowed. This includes using the forum email and Private message system to spam other members. There is SikhSangat Advertisement program which can be seen here: http://sikhsangat.com/adverts

    SIGNATURE RULES

Links in signatures must follow these guidelines:

    • A link and promotional text for a site that is not commercial provided the site is not against Sikhi or does not violate SikhSangat community standards. The SikhSangat.com team shall be the sole arbitrator of what does and what does not violate community standards.
    • Duplicate links to the same URL in a sig are not allowed.

Size: All signatures should not exceed the following size limits, and you can't have both text and images

    • For text signatures: 4 lines normal size, 8 lines small size and up to 90 chars per line. Font sizes above 2 are not allowed. (Blank lines count as lines.)
    • For images in signatures: 1 image up to 200 pixels wide, 75 pixels tall and 20k in size
    • Animated images in sigs are not allowed

    AVATARS

Obscene images such as beheaded animals, pornography or inappropriate content (swf files) or images are not allowed.

  2. Waheguru jee ka khalsa

    Waheguru jee ke fateh!!

So yeah.. Sikhsangatooo, Last week was really tough one. SikhSangat.com definitely belongs to Sangats and from reading several requests, we admins of this forum decided to offer Waheguroo Network to join hand once again but there are some simple conditions: No sewadar can stay as GUPT, this way not all sewadars of sikhsangat.com get blames of having biased views and dividing sikh panth into more different parts in reality. Believe us forums can mess up young youths mind. Why you don't want to be Gupt? Do we want our names to be in front and gets “Wah wah”, Ego? No, ego has nothing to do with not being Gupt. Being Gupt allows sewadars hundreds of chance to skip under the table and save their name. If someone edits, delete any post, he/she should take responsibility to explain why the post is deleted or edited. Being Gupt one will think, “Oh heck who care, they don’t even know who deleted it or edited it” and that did happened hundreds/thousands of times. We are open to discuss the possibilities of having one united forum. The talk must held in public and everything will be discussed in front of sangats and conclusion will be drawn by SikhSangat’s top members. This is the only possible action we are willing to take. Rest is in waheguru jee's hand.

However, at the same time we also decided not to allow any new post regarding W!N and Sikhsangat partition anymore under any section besides "Feedbacks". If anyone wants to know about it please go to feedback section or use the search option.

  3. Wooooaaaahh !

    Gurfateh Saaadh Sangat jee

I humbly request my veer Waheguroo Network Council members who are posting on this forum since morning; Please Do not do emotional blackmail to young youths here. And please post by one ID instead of multiples? Simmal tree please don't post as a confused person, we know that you know everything on this matter.

Let us explain everything in crystal clear truth, then it's you who will decide. We tried our best not to tell anything to public what happened as W!N is gupt, so we respect their privacy. By their sad posts, we are force to reveal some information below. If we are more forced then we will keep everything open in front of public as we have nothing to hide :umm:

    Youmay ask Why :

First of all SikhSangat.com was completely different Website, it was not meant to be fully integrated with Waheguroo.com website (That were the wishes of the Original SikhSangat sewadars). SikhSangat.com was meant to be Runned and maintained by only original "NEUTRAL" members who weren't even Amritdhari when they started this forum. Third week after we joined Waheguroo.com decided to take action against one of the original Admin sewadar. He was made a member by the council members and other original sewadars weren't even aware of that. Upon knowing this we made him admin again and we were glad that next time same issue didn't came up

    Main Issues :

Original Sewadars views clashes with *Few* main network sewadars. Recently, about a month ago we created a list of duties for the Sewadars and the rules were very simple. One rule was "Admin CANNOT close the TOPIC just because it goes against his/her view." That rule is very simple and it doesn't gives a chance for any admin to mis-use his powers. Sadly, we continue to see some peoples personal reply and then they close the topic. This doesn't only shows bias views and mis-use of management powers but also it hurts peoples like late Parminder Singh. Gurmat Studies met sewadars of Network during their 2003 winter Fresno Gurmat Camp. Parminder singh and other singhs main issue was exactly the same i mentioned above and Waheguroo network sewadars do remember that meeting and so does dozens of other Gurmat Studies sewadars who were there in the meeting.

We still say Waheguroo network is the great panthic website not only backed by students but also by sangat. But sometime someone has to draw line to serve the public more openly without holding any secrets.

Waheguroo network being down is simply a way to earn pity respect or support from sangat. Sorry for being harsh but thats true. How Keertan.net, Khalsa.tv, Sikhi is integrated with the SikhSangat.com. No Username database was deleted by us. Only files which Solely belongs to SikhSangat.com was taken away. In fact recently it was Network Admins who to hide/delete the "SQL Database Backup" option from the Admin panel because it was them who didn't trust us after saint soldiers left them. How can we work in a team, when one member can't trust other? We don't seek answers to the above questions, we are mature enough to think what's right and whats wrong and instead of fights and finger pointing we decided to leave quietly and we will stay on our own and we will make sure that RULES APPLIES TO BOTH ADMINS AND MEMBERS.

Other issue is Privacy of the members on the old forum, which we will not discuss.

Hope we answered everything, if still someon is in doubt, pls email us @ contact@sikhsangat.com

  4. Waheguroo ji ka khalsa

    Waheguroo ji ki fateh!

    Dear Sikh Sangat ji,

You've noticed there have been certain changes to SikhSangat.com and we want to enforce the quality of SikhSangat back to the level it was so that we have no members leaving the forum due to lack of learning or lack of quality.

We noticed there have been alot more questions posted by the members, before posting a question, you MUST do the following:

    1) Search for an answer on the internet.

    2) Use the Search feature on the board.

If you don't find the topic, only then post a topic, no-one wants the same topic to be discussed repeatedly or answer the same questions. This rule will be enforced alot since there are many repeated topics.

If you have any questions regarding anything, you can PM the ADMIN.

    Your sewadar,

    ADMIN

    Waheguroo ji ka khalsa

    Waheguroo ji ki fateh!

  5. But are the same people running the site ?

Or are new people doing seva to run this site ?

Admins/mods are slashed from 20 to 4. We will announce you exact details soon after sewadars conference.

and Sarbloh_soulja veerjee hope you have a great day :umm:

  6. Old Posts/Replies

We are sorry to inform sangat that we will not be able to upload data of past few days. It took us days to upload the big database of old posts. With guru jees grace none of the old posts and files are lost. We are also sorry to inform that 20 new members has been lost while doing uploading and they have to go through the registeration process.

    Rules & Guidelines

We, sewadars will encourage sangata to go through the rules and guidelines section @ http://www.sikhsangat.com/rules/ and we will give couple of weeks for forum members to go through that section. Thanks Morrakhmuggadh, broken link is fixed now.

    Minor fixes

Currently SikhSangat.com is under minor modifications. We will have the full established forum template up soon, couple of bugs will be taken care of. If you find any bug or errors, pls do contact us @ contact@Sikhsangat.com. Gurmukhi fonts and other major modifications will be up in a week.

    Sewadars

Our guideline completely shows that none of the current sewadars will have any deep link with any jathabandi at all. Sikhsangat.com was born as Neutral and it will stay neutral. Sewadars of Sikhsangat will have conference to set long term goals and discuss the forum rules throughly.

At end Waheguroo Network is Panthic Awesome Network. Keertan.net Rocks :umm: and we had great time with network sewadars and we will support them in panthic issues as we will support any other panthic organizations.

  7. Waheguru ji ka Khalsa

    Waheguru ji ki Fateh

In the past three days we have upgraded the forum scripts, to a newer version. We have moved servers and have had to move very large amount of data. As you can see a lot of the features from the previous forums are currently missing, but we will bring them back.

The topics from past three days, are all safe however not availabe in this forum. We will try to restore them add them to the current forum but if we can not do that then we shall provide a suitable alternative.

Please give us time, meanwhile, keep the sikhi discussions going.

  8. We see this change as the last option for the forum sewadars to uphold the quality of the forum.

Please take your time to read the following SikhSangat Press Release

  11. Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa

    Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!

Guru Pyare Khalsa Sadh Sangat Jeeo,

Yesterday was a very interesting day in that we learned the advantages and dangers of our actions.

We protested against HaHaPanties having a Khanda on their panties for sale. The reaction was, few people sent polite e-mails to this individual. However, many people sent veiled death threats, curse words, and embarrassing e-mails.

This action of our members has hurt the entire seva team of SikhSangat.com. We feel personally embarrassed and offended by the conduct of some hooligans. Furthermore, this puts a stain on the whole of the sangat that visits this forum. Lastly, this action resulted in a negative impression created in the mind of the HaHaPanties.com website owner.

We humbly ask you, where in Gurmat is it written that the first reaction to a protest is immature and violent e-mails?

This action by those individuals was completely inappropriate and indefensible. In the future, we will continue to stand for truth. We will continue to fight ignorance. We will continue to protest injustice, racism, prejudice and bigotry. However, if anybody uses our platform to launch hate mail, death threats, cursing, or other hateful messages at another person, there will be consequences.

Please do not force us to go on strike, or shut down the site, or ban users, or have to do damage control.

Please accept our humble benti - in the future, first fight ignorance with patience, then fight with determination, then fight with resilience, then fight with passion. Use e-mails, flyers, pamphlets, magazines, newspapers, radio, tv, letters,

phone calls, meetings, negotiations, protests, rallies, hunger strikes, and only in life and death situations, fight with physical means.

But never fight ignorance with more ignorance and hatred.

In the Spirit of Panthic Ektha & Chardee Kalaa,

    ADMIN Sevadaars

  12. Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa

    Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!

    Dear Veerjee,

We understand your concerns and we are not outside of them. Many Gursikhs have fallen victim and are still victims of the five thieves of Kaam, Krodh, Lobh, Moh, and Ahankaar. They are called thieves (punj chor) for a reason.

They steal away all of your naam and baanee kamaee, everything that you spent so much time and love to earn. They waste it on cheap disgusting ideas, thoughts and actions. They leave you feeling depressed, alone, and without a place to turn to.

However, in the saadhsangat, there is no chance of this happening. Veerjee, we strongly encourage you to take the following steps to cure this problem:

    1) In the morning after you do your nitnem, stand in front of Guru Ji one day, and make a solemn promise. Think in your mind that in front of you Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the king of the universe, is sitting there listening to your promise. Say it verbally, tell Guru jee what you have been doing. Describe everything you have done to Guru jee. You might start to cry. That's too bad. This is called "facing your actions." Once you face them, you can realize the problem within them.

Stand there and say all of the things you have thought and done, and then apologize to Guru jee for drifting from the path of Sikhi and promise Guru jee that it won't happen again. Tell Guru jee that because of this folly, you have a commitment. You will give yourself a "punishment" (which is actually a reward), called "thankhaa" which means wages. This will be a certain amount of simran or paath or whatever you think is right for your situation.

    >

If you have commited a kurehit, or if your heart feels like doing so, you can instead go to the Punj Pyare and get a "thankhaa" from them.

    2) In your mind keep the shabads "Par triyaa roop na paykhai naytr" and "jam kaa dandd karaaraa bhaee" in your mind always.

    3) Veerjee, NEVER let another person insult you and your Guru by making fun of your dastaar and pulling it out. BEFORE this happens again - let those people know you will not tolerate that behaviour in the future. Don't take any of this abuse, give your last warning right away. After that, if they don't listen, you will need to talk with your school principal and file an assault complaint. If you don't do this, those people will continue to do these things.

    4) GET RID OF THOSE FAKE FRIENDS! Try to find saadhsangat. Try to find Gursikhs who are into Sikhi. If there aren't any in your school, try to find Christians, Muslims, Hindus who are faithful to their religion and will respect you for being faithful to your religion. Do not associate with bad sangat.

We couldn't vote in the poll because we have to remain impartial.

Our apologies to all those who couldn't vote due to technical difficulties.

It appears however that the voting poll works for most people as the votes have been increasing.

If you are reading this message, please vote and ask your friends on this forum to vote.

Once we have 10% (representative sample) of the total SikhSangat members voted, we will post a second poll with the top 5 ideas.

NOTE TO ALL - this is just an idea that many members have posted about from jkaur to rsingh and all the a to z singhs and kaurs in between  . We know the sangat wants this to happen but you all know it will take some time. In the meanwhile please send all your ideas and suggestions to use by e-mail at contact@sikhsangat.com

Thank you for your patience and understanding!

One of our SikhSangat forum members is Santbir Singh. He lives in [edited: VANCOUVER, not Montreal] but he used to be involved in the McGill University SSA. Please search his name in the members list and PM him as he might have some experience in this regard.

BCSikhYouth.com and CASikhYouth.com might be good places to look.

Also there are so many SSA's out there, you could search "Sikh Students Association" on Google and go to their websites to find what events they are doing.

    Hope this helps!

  16. sometimes it says this:

THE FOLLOWING ERROR(S) WERE FOUNDYou cannot upload this type of file

i allways get that whenever i try to post a pic up...how do u fix that?

    Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa!

    Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!

You are getting that error message because the images you are trying to upload are bigger in file size than allowed.

You may attach a file to this message.

Maximum file size (in bytes): 35840

Please make sure that the File size of the attachment is no greater than 35.5kb, This limit is set to save space on our heavily used servers.

My advice is that you use the following method to add image attachments in the posts.

    http://www.imageshack.us/

If you simply register with the above website and upload the image there then you can link the image in your posts using the IMG tag. the above website lets you upload large images and its easier on our server as well.

The valid files that are allowed to be uploaded on our server to be attached are jpg files and word documents.

    jpg files sho

uld not be bigger than 35.5kb and this can be found out by right clicking on the file and clicking properties.

  17. On this day in 2004, Bhai Joginder Singh Jee Talwara passed away. And after that, in the year 2004, we lost so many chardikala gursikhs... but we are still strong. Having a Memorial Page for them is sure not a big tribute, but it is just a small effort to keep their lifestyle alive in our society. They were our role models, and taught us great lessons. We owe to them and we will repay it by being more strong in our sikhi, and keep their memory alive in our community.

SikhSangat.com Press Team dedicates http://forums.waheguroo.com/press to the chardi kala gursikhs of 2004 who left us for Guru jees sangat.

We will keep the sangat updated on SikhSangat Press page once in a month !!
