    FORUM RULES

    Please review the following moderation rules before posting. Not following the forum rules will result in putting the member on moderation.

    A member will be given a warning and put under-moderation for:

    1. Insulting, name-calling and labeling other members; this includes both the initiating person and the person retaliating.
    2. Spreading rumors about other person on the forum.
    3. Never-Ever post any other person's picture without their consent. You may post pictures of public figures such as politicians or of any person speaking in public and or pictures from public event. Marriage pictures and facebook are private.
    4. Defamation of other characters are not allowed. Please use "Report this Post" feature to report.
    5. Writing derogatory comments about different jathas of the Sikh panth. Any particular practice of a jatha can be questioned but must be done so in a respectful and non-offensive manner. derogatory comments such as "Cultish mindset" or "Bhasuria mindset" are now considered as derogatory terms on our forums. Please do not use such.
    6. Insulting any Sikh Shaheeds of any era are certainly not allowed on our forums.
    7. Indirect personal attacks, sarcasm towards another member's posts and a negative tone of speech are also liable for a warning without any warning.
    8. Death threats, soliciting and private messaging bibis on the forum.
    9. Supporting the Indian government for attacking Darbar Sahib and justifying the 1984 massacre.
    10. Supporting excommunicated people like Kala afghana and ragi darshan and so on.
    11. We do not support Sikh MI\issionary College Prachar and we will not allow anyone to use our platform for their prachar.
    12. Posting adult or obscene audio/visual content on the site.
    13. Posting topics/links against the basic principles of Sikhi.
    14. Insulting Sikhi, Shabad Guru, Khalsa Panth, Akal Takhat, Sikh identity, Dasam Granth, Sikh Scriptures and calling Sikhi a sect of any other religion will result in the user's ID being disabled until further notice.
    15. Supporting Anti-Sikh organizations/sects/cults and their affiliated websites. Pro views or justifications or posts that are for ANTI-SIKH organizations/sects will not be allowed on SikhSangat.com and will be deleted and the member will likely be put under quality control/moderation. Most of these organizations include those that have been declared as anti-sikh by Akaal Takht Sahib such as kala afghana, naamdharis, radhasuaamees, etc.
    16. No personal attack on Jatehdars of Sri Akal Takht Sahib or other 4 Takhts regardless of whatever information you may have. Member may discuss about former Jatehdars but we will not allow anyone to talk negative of any current Jathedars.

    **Asking questions for educational reasons is allowed but all posts must be approved by the moderator in that topic.


    GENERAL RULES

    • While debating and discussion is fine, we will not tolerate rudeness, insulting posts, personal attacks or purposeless inflammatory posts. Our decision is final in these matters.
    • Refrain yourself from writing any derogatory comments on any religion. Any particular practice of a religion can be questioned but must be done so in a respectful and non-offensive manner.
    • Please refrain from posting meaningless threads, one word (or short) non-sense posts, or such.
    • Multiple or repeated posting in order to increase your post count is not allowed.
    • Use the search function before posting. Chances are your question has already been answered.
    • Advertising, spamming and trolling is not allowed. This includes using the forum email and Private message system to spam other members.
    • Discussion of illegal activities such as software and music piracy and other intellectual property violations are not allowed.
    • Each member is allowed one login account. Registering with multiple accounts is not allowed.
    • We reserve the right to remove offensive posts without notice.
    • We also reserve the right to ban anyone who willfully violates the forum rules.
    • Use a title that describes the content of your post. Don't use all caps or special characters to draw attention.
    • Also while these rules cover most common situations, they cannot anticipate everything. Consequently we reserve the right to take any actions we deem appropriate to ensure these forums are not disrupted or abused in any way.
    • Private Messages received on these Forums are to be considered private and are not to be posted publicly unless the sender of the private message agrees. Also Participant shall not post messages containing personal phone numbers or addresses.
    • Do not post messages that advocate harm or death to anyone, threaten the livelihood of anyone, or otherwise harass anyone. Do not send email, snail mail, phone, fax, or other messages to anyone if your intent is to threaten or harass, and do not encourage others to do the same. Do not take your disagreements off the message board and into the "real world," and do not do anything to try to harm or harass any member of this message board in the "real world."
    • Stay on topic. Don't jump into an unrelated discussion and introduce a barely-relevant tangent in order to bring up your pet issue.
    • Do not spam the message board.
    • When discussing race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or religion, please exercise the appropriate level of sensitivity toward others and take extra care to clearly express your point of view. This will help avoid misunderstandings and undeserved accusations of bigotry.
    • People who repeatedly and willfully break the rules, or who generally engage in rude, antisocial behavior, will be banned. It doesn't matter if you are a progressive or a long-term member of this board.
    • Not responding to or ignoring moderator warnings can lead to suspension. We reserve the right to ban/suspend anyone for any reason, and to delete any post for any reason.
    • Any threat or personal attack on any sewadar will result in direct ban. If you have an issue with a moderator you can open a ticket, but open attacks on the board or via PM will result in immediate ban of IP address.
    • Insults made against other members on this board are not tolerated, even those made via PM. Warnings will be issued to offending members.

    This forum has zero-tolerance for junk. Unsolicited advertisement links and Spammers will be banned immediately and all spam deleted on spot. Abusive and inactive accounts may be removed at moderators consent without any prior notice, to reduce database load.

    Modified Rules & Guidlines which will replace all old rules and guidelines starting Feb 1st, 2013.

    WARNINGS

    Warnings may or may not be given to forum user. However, we will try our best to notify user to modify his/her behavior and adhere to the forum rules. Warnings will be given anonymously from either Admin or Moderator user id.

    Under Moderation


    If sewadars seen editing your post more often then your membership will go under moderation without notice. If sewadars still edit your posts then a final warning will be given in written pm/email form before disabling/ban your membership from our forums. We may put user under moderation with or without notifying user.

    Typical user account time under moderation is about 4 weeks. Moderation will be lifted upon the discretion of SikhSangat. User may write to the Admin (SikhSangat@live.com) stating why he/she should be taken off of moderation and how they will strive to make better posts.

    QC - Quality Control

    QC is different than Under Moderation, it is implemented only to control the flow of below quality posts/replies etc. We may put new members under QC until further notice. We reserves the right to place any member under quality control moderation. An explanation is not required under quality control moderation but all efforts will be made to notify them. The duration of the moderation will be at the prerogative of the Admin.

    BAN

    If any user continues to violate forum rules and does agree with forum sewadars then Administrator will ban particular user indefinitely without any contact. User may write to the Admin (SikhSangat@live.com) stating why he/she should be taken off of BAN and how they will strive to make better posts. IF we lift the ban, user will stay under moderation until further notice.

    REPORT THIS POST

    If you think something requires the attention of the moderators or if any user who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to contact us immediately; please hit the "Report this Post" link on the post in question. This will send an ALERT via PM and email message to SikhSangat so that they can address the problem next time they log on to their computer. This is a manual process, however, so please realize that we may not be able to remove or edit particular messages immediately. You may also contact us at SikhSangat@live.com providing all details such as URL, User ids & brief description of your disagreement.

    LAW ENFORCEMENT

    Do not post messages that advocate harm or death to anyone, threaten the livelihood of anyone, or otherwise harass anyone. SikhSangat will not responsible for any member's action BUT we will provide member's details and online activity to police officials if requested by law enforcement. This is fair warning to all members to think twice before posting. We may inquire with our legal advisors before releasing private information to such officials. We will not share any information with Indian officials on any issue at all.

    We will give on real example. Office from London Police contacted us to inquire about member's activity. He provided his credentials and we validated/confirmed his credintials by calling his office. He wanted to check on ip addresses the member used during past few weeks. This was the case where young bibi ran away from home and parents were concerned about her safety. Officer contacted us and we gave them access to our system to complete the formality and help Sikh parents.

Please refrain yourself from attacking others and do no involve personal attacks or use words such as 'cultish' etc. If one is trying to express his/her opinion in this thread then please do it one reply rather than repeating it in all replies.   5. Tweaking New forum settings including forum rules and guidelines

    For the next few days we will be working on cleaning up old inactive members and tweaking few settings and we will bring up the new fresh face for our forums.

    We are also working on bringing up the new simple forum rules and guidelines. Our current registration process is in dying stage as new members have to wait for days in order to participate after initial registration. We are working on that to improve the wait time from days to instant.

    Let us know if you want anything particular on our forums that need to be changed.

  6. Why do admins lock threads for no reason? I thought this was a forum?

    We will figure out and try to relax on closing threads too early. We won't close threads anymore based on whether topic been discussed on forums before or not.

    Proactive ji, Both admin and mods can edit any posts/replies only if it goes against forum rules other than that they or we don't have any reason to edit them. If you wish, please edit your post and send me the pm and we will take it from there.

    applied some updates last night and rebooted the server. Then fell asleep. Logged on to Sikhsangat at work to find it was offline. The mysql server had not come online which is why the site was offline.

    Restarted the server and all is good.

    Just letting everyone know.

  13. Timeout Issue

    Fateh Everyone,

    We have been working for over the past few weeks, pretty much everyday to sort out the timeout issue. With the help of forum software provider, we have applied few fixes. Hopefully these will fix the issue of timeouts when new topic were being created.

    If you experience this issue still or any other issues, please let us know.

    Question for Admins: Why are posts against Niddar Nang allowed without a question - is there a double standard here?

    Very good question and here is our clear reply: Nobody from Niddar group ever contacted us regarding the posts/replies made against them on our forums and we don't have any track of such threads. If anyone from their group contact us and want to remove any personal attack then we will delete such threads. However, if they ask for deletion of topics which is questioning their religious belief then that is not allowed. Many contacted us regarding promotion of Niddar group on our forums, so we made this rule few months ago. We have so many sub-forums, hundreds of new topics opening up and it is not humanly possible for us to preview every single topic/post/reply, so we typically take action only after getting "report this post alerts" or other various communications such as pm/emails etc, We been contacted by a person last year who wanted to remove posts/threads attacking his personal character from posts made almost a decade ago. We removed them and helped them as soon we got their email even though the communication from one side was very hostile and bringing legal threats again and again.

    I guess we are not still clear here Let me give it another shot at this.

    We are here talking about one particular situation where one side is some members of jatha and other side is one person we mentioned in our original post. You may not be aware of this situation but recently, war of words are flying between them; on facebook and now some are bringing it on our forums or already brought it here since last week. So, we wanted to be clear to them that this forum will not tolerate that. We are getting numerous emails/pm about this and we want to put an end to this.

    Now your question is whether this forum is akj or majority of them are from this Jatha. Majority of our Forum sewadars are not attached to any jathabandi and that is one of our core belief in order to run independent non-biased forum. We do have our own set of rules not leaning to any jathabandi. We do respect them to the maximum level and do not allow any kintu parantu on any jathabandi known as panthic jathabandi.

    Despite our various attempts of deleting topics relating to one particular person who is not a member of this forum, we would like to make our stand clear. We do not want nor welcome any post/topic/reply promoting or attacking person named 'Kamalroop'. We do not want anyone (whether it is our veteran member or new member) to use the platform of SikhSangat to talk anything relating to this person. Please do not take an offense from our standpoint but we do not care who you are or how bad you want to write or talk about any particular person.

    Our forum is not made to talk about other person's character or create a fan base of anyone here. We want this forum to be used as a platform to discuss issues rather than getting into personal wars. To both sides, we do not want your agenda to be promoted here. If you have topics not involving personal attacks then that is more welcome, but other than that, take it somewhere else.

    To those who still do not understand our standpoint: We will not have anyone here talk negative about AKJ nor we would allow anyone from any jatha to attack any individual unless he/she holds a public position (such as politician etc). Those who defy this will go under-moderation without any notice.

  25. Locked Topics

    Can someone point us to the 'Locked topic' link so that we can take a look at it and find out why it was closed. We will try to assign one volunteer on a duty to hear and solve such issues.

    Lets try to fulfill the foremost purpose of such forums, i.e. come together, accept each other even if we disagree on matters and respectfully disagree.The “respectfully disagree” element is something that is non-existent on this board, and as shocking as it may be, it reflects our mindset as a community. “My way or the highway”. I don’t need to name individuals on this board who get some sort of a weird “high” by putting down anyone who doesn’t agree with their stand on no matter what the issue seems to be.

    Thank for you this ^^. We also noticed this trend for the past few months (if not years). We will discuss this with other sewadars and how to bring more change to our system.
