No problem, the point of a forum is to have discussion.
Agreed.
I mean I don't know why they convert to Buddhism, Sikhism and Buddhism has a lot of things in coming. We are placed on this world or universe in order to live a good life and do good deeds, and at the end achieve liberation, buts its a journey we have obstacles such as Maya or Illusions that distract us from achieving our goal. We both believe that there are multiple galaxies, universes, plants, life forms, etc.

As you see don't trust main stream media, they often obscure things. Apparently, Kiran Bala was in a whatsapp group with Pakistani Men, and her father in law said that she was always on it. For me, I just think that she was trying to get into a relationship and had used the Jatha as an opportunity to meet the man in Pakistan. Honestly, its just scummy what she has done regardless leaving her poor kids being raised by their elder grandparents. I just don't know if its some conspiracy theory RSS type of crap or ISI crap forcing her into Islam, but for me I just think she was in some abroad relationship type of thing, but hey don't trust me, that's my theory.

Erm, what? What's to say that they were Sikhs prior to becoming Buddhists? I would venture to say they were not. They were just "Hindus" (not really, because they probably couldn't participate fully in the temple rituals), but do you have anything to say they were actually Sikhs?
The fact is that they were looking around for a religion to join, and Ambedkar chose Budhism, so that's what they became.
Also, when you say that Punjabi Buddhists are Buddhists because of caste discrimination, that's exactly why I questions why a Chahal would feel the need to become a Buddhist. Obviously, it's for a reason other than caste discrimination.
I am saying, forgive me for saying it. For the people who come from "upper" castes they just convert to Buddhism I guess are just trying to get an experience of spirituality or that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanshi_Ram Kanshi Ram came from the "Ramdasia" Sikh "Caste" and before his death wanted to convert into Sikhism. There are also Sikh Dalits or Lowest Class who converted to Buddhism due to the discrimination they faced from the upper class aka Jatts. Like for example, 2 gurdwara's or even 4 gurdwara's in pinds in order to cater for different caste. Some of them couldn't do langar and had to use separate utensils. Sikhism has a lot of good beliefs, but the issue is that culture and certain religions are influencing sikhi.
In a nutshell, some Punjabi's are Buddhists because they converted from Sikhism, Buddhism or even Islam to escape caste, thats the reason while some I guess trying to do spiritual things, I don't know.

come on guys, we need to remember history but not so much that we keep talking about that only !

lets see the challenge that is inevitable if things go like this
1) Sikhs becoming minority ! (because christians come on doordarshan punjabi , preaching in punjabi and "jesus satguru" and langar in churches, at peak viewing hour)
2) RSS attacks our faith with petty remarks that would falter away like melter butter if we just knew basics of our faith and also of their faith (Upanishads are an interesting spiritual read I would recommend to everyone)
3) Drugs is spoiling our name and rep
4) Apostasy all time high . We need to capture the blitz and fashion industry and carve a niche where full kesadhari is the "new se xy" .pardon my words but our youths are gonna go away if a handsome young dude in hair cut and cool clothes comes up and is portryed as more cool while our pajama type guys are portrayed as buffoons for bollywood. Time for "smart sardaar"
Why can't we have a rule in punjab , that atleast when it comes to fashion advertisements , either in print media, social media, tv or billboards, we need full kesadhari cool looking sikh mundey and kudia . Preaching is not gonna reach to ignorant youth of ours
5) YoYo Honey Singh and the likes are just ruining our community and our language ! Stop patronizing them ! They fed out of punjab , Punjabi language gave them platform but now they lambast the same language !
You got very good points, and every Sikh on these forums agree, but the issue is how can we stop this. I mean the issue is that Sikhism has to be reunited when the British came in and tried to convert us only a few converted, but we sticked together and infact a Singh Sabha was made to protect Sikhi, now after the partition and the insurgency, we have become weak. My feeling is that we can't save some of the Sikh's of this generation, but we can train the next to carry on our torch. We have to work together to fix these things like caste, gender discrimination, and rituals. We need someone to make a movement like the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singh_Sabha_Movement and make it a 2.0. We have to remove the old generation that are spreading these lies such as caste and such. We have to remove these corrupt committees who don't care about God, but instead they are just being trapped by Maya or Mukti and being controlled by lobh (greed) they just care about money and god. We need a Singh Sabha Movement 2.0 led by fellow Sikh's we can work together, but we need organization, but I feel that it will never happen, and there will be another post saying that we need a movement, but we gotta find a way.

You have a very good point. Actually, before the partition had happened there were Sindhi Sikhs from the region Sindh who were devoted to Guru Nanak and Sikhi, but after the partition, these people assimilated into Sikhism. I always hear North Indian Sikhs making fun of South Indians and such, but they should realize there are South Indian Sikhs and others in India. Like there are Bengali Sikhs, Assamese Sikhs who were the descendants of the Khalsa or Sikh Soldiers who intermarried with the Assamese locals, Sikhligars who live everywhere in India, I think Tibetan Sikhs, and etc. Also, there are Pashtun Sikhs as well! Funny thing these people never abandoned their Sikhi even though they have been isolated. When I see a photo of the Sikhligars or the Assamese I always see most of them have kirpans, patka's, and etc while us Punjabi's who have been exposed to Sikhi still are majority Mona's, who drink alcohol and etc.
The issue is why there isn't that many foreign Sikhs is due to the fact that Sikhism really doesn't care about getting followers like they didn't send missionaries and such. The ideas were spread through by Sikh travelers, and people often say why Sikhism are mostly Punjabi due to the fact we didn't actively convert that many people, another issue is that 3H0, its controversial due to the fact that its more like a new age movement like Osho, and it had a lot of things that Sikhism opposed like ritualism, and etc. Which is why when you see a Gora Sikh they would get negative press because Punjabi's would assume they are from 3HO, but in fact some Sikh's just stumble upon Sikhism, not from 3H0.
The issue is that culture is affecting Sikhi, and we have to bash it. Like Guru Nanak said women are equal, yet there are Punjabi Songs degarding women as whores, or sluts. Guru Nanak said that sons and daughters are equal, yet ironically Punjabi has the highest infanticide rates in India! We also say there is no caste, but we have caste attach to our names like my name for example. Honestly, it blows my mind how when I ask my friends about Sikhi they think that Sikhism is meant for the Jatts, they have that cultural mentality in my opinion. For me I never knew I was a "Jatt" Sikh until last year when a girl asked me. Sikhism has a lot of potential, but we got to remove the weeds and vines of this dangerous culture that is affecting Sikhi.

Well, yeah, but not in the way you replied to my statement. It is no more controversial to state that Chahal is a Jatt surname than to say that Anand is a Khatri surname or Smith is an English surname or O'Reilly is an Irish surname.
We don't "believe" in devtas, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. We just don't place our faith in them.
Similarly, we don't believe that any one racial group is inherently better than another.
My bad

So yes, its been 3 years since I came on this forum, I have become more and more interested in my Sikhi, and such, but I have realized that we are doing some things that Sikhism told us not to do. For example, not to have idols, and stones, and just worship to the formless god, yet we have portraits of our Guru's, and in some homes, we do mathadek to them. Isn't this a forum of ritualism where we think the Guru's are holy in someway, yet Guru Nanak said that he wasn't special he was the Humble Servant of God, yet we bow down to the pictures of them. Isn't god formless and that he is everywhere.

The Lord God is in all mind and matter, subtle and manifest. O Nanak, the Gurmukh realizes God. ॥14॥Here is another issue, in the news, people often consider Sikh's travel to Pakistan as "Sikh Pilgrims", in Sikhism, but we are not. I notice that when I go to the Gurdwara people often walk around the Guru Granth Sahib as some sort of ritual. I noticed it today, I just followed my father and walked around the Guru Granth sahib, clockwise which seems fishy.. Its like a Hindu tradition of walking around the fire which is ritualism and a superstition which is against Sikhi, well its called Lavan I reckon which they do in weddings. This is concerning as Sikhism prohibits these type of things, and I am having a feeling that certain cultural influences are leaking into Sikhism. For example, there have been reports of idols, of Guru Nanak in markets and such. This is really concerning, and I hope there will be a way to solve this issue.

I think I know why most Punjabi Buddhists are indeed Buddhists, well due to the fact of caste discrimination in our Sikhi. In Sikhism you would think we are advanced, but the issue is that culture is tangled up with Sikhi, and due to the promotion by the British that some certain castes were martial races this caused an Ego with certain Sikhs. As a result there was caste discrimination on our fellow Sikhs who, forgive me for saying it lower castes. Which is why Ambedkar wanted Buddhism, actually he was interested in our religion since we were against it, but he realized he would be a second class Sikh due to the fact of caste discrimination. If our fellow Sikh's would've actually followed the Guru Granth Sahib, and treated our fellows with respect, then perhaps Ambedkar would've been a Sardar.

Hmm, Chahal is a Jat surname. Extremely strange to see a Jat as a Buddhist. They are usually Muslim, Hindu, and Sikh. Or maybe it was an Ambedkar follower who worked for a Chahal family and adopted the name when they had to get a passport.
Us Sikh's don't believe in caste.

Our universe is a beautiful place. The universe holds a lot of secrets, but I want to know if the universe is actually a simulation. I know I sound a bit wacko, but I am just wondering. When I think of the universe, I just think of god coding us Earth and adding a bunch of life. Watching our progress. Do you folks think, that this universe is a simulation created by God?

Ur in a tough situation kid. If u hurt the other kid badly..u will be in even bigger trouble. And yet if u let the kid bully u...thats horrible. So ignore the kid if he just name calls. Then hes gonna start calling u a coward and spreading around how u scared of him now cuz of the fight. Still ignore him. But if he tries to hit u or ur friends wait for the first punch only then fight. That way ur fight can count as defense. Also try ganging up on him just him against u n ur friends n try to scare him, dont hurt him..just threaten but idk if this will work cuz he can do the same.u can also try to do truce with him....eapecially if he asks u to pass him stuff like scissors or watever. Be like u have to stop being an <banned word filter activated> n calling me names.
This kid pissed me off, cause of that one math thing, he told everyone I was a retard, still kept calling me names. I felt sad, and didn't deserve to be in AP... The teacher told us to stop, than this fudu kicked me in the <banned word filter activated> knee.. So I had to push him away... He caused everything...
Tell your parents and a school administrator. Don't retort to violence for no reason. Just make it clear you want to be left completely alone and you don't want any problems and want to be able to focus on your education without the fear of being terrorized by your peers.
Don't want to get in trouble and get that on your record. Stay tough and show confidence around him. If he says something just smile, nod your head and continue to ignore him completely.
The teachers won't give a damn.. They would make up their own story... I told my parents, and I bet I will get in more trouble, even though this kid caused everything.

Another thing that makes me cringe, is that this kid was also a Sikh... This mother <banned word filter activated>, deserves to go to hell... I get bullied.. I don't get it why me...

What grade you in, OP?
Eh, in Grade 8. I got in trouble last year for punching some gora kid for being racist to me. I thought it nearly ruined my chances of being in AP, but it didn't. I don't usually get into fights, but I don't know why I get picked on. Its hard being in AP class, its just that my other Indian peers pretty much brag about their marks, and other stuff.

So today, this kid was a <banned word filter activated> to me and kept calling me a "retard", or "stupid". Because I didn't wear my glasses, as kids might make fun of me. So I didn't and the teacher yelled at me, and I was yelled at, then the kid told everyone I was a retard. After his goonies kept calling me some insults. A couple days later, we had a math assignment to do, and the kid called me a "fudu", and after that he needed help... So I did, and he wanted pencil crayons, and it was after he insulted me. So I gave him the crayons. His goonies called me some stuff and they stopped. I am in PRE-AP with them, so high marks are required, and yeah. I felt ashamed and thought I was stupid. In the weekend I had to finish up a project, I saw his goonies working together I tried to hide, but we had to print right beside him he called me stupid.. Then I told him I got a higher mark. So today he wanted scissors, and our group said,"no". I called him a <banned word filter activated>, and he said that his group almost failed, and he nearly told on me. After that we had a presentation he started to flinch me, and I got so angry by his insults, I wanted to do a prank, and he did a "lockerbomb" to me a couple of times. It means closing the lock and handing it back. He did it to me a couple of times, and I did to him at the first time he smacked me at the back. Today I did, and he jumped on my friend. I tried to get them away, but I accidently pushed him, and he attacked me. We did a couple of shoves, and yeah. I throw my lock at him, and the teacher told us to stop, and I did. As I put my stuff away, he kicked me in the knee, and we got in a small shove. After that he told me" You have 10 seconds to leave the school or he will beat me up". I didn't listen to him, and I did the opposite, and went inside.
Please help man. Its always me that get bullied and picked on. I got bullied as well. (Sorry for the errors, I typed very fast.) Also, he is also a Sikh.

We are Sikhs we don't discriminate people's beliefs and religions.only because they have that internal struggle themselves ...
This SIngh is not suited to the job not because of his views , but because he could not see that he has to be more tactful than the average jatinder punjabi is , yes all MPs have personal views many of them similar but they aren't silly enough to spout them unbidden, unvetted ANYWHERE. Sure from SIkhi point of view he can say it is not for me ,but I don't deny their human and political rights BUS ! so sad, too bad, moving on...

There is the above aspects to it, for sure.
The fact is the homosexual issue is not up for debate anymore, politically and socially. You'll only get evangelical-type religious sorts who'll condemn homosexuality, and as you know, the media paints those voices as a minority of crackpots.
I can appreciate the concerns of some parents who may feel even discussing such issues with children in school is worrying. This Jagdish Grewal fellow needed to make this point but take it easy on the re-education and re-alignment of gays, lol. That sounds like the kind of thing they use to do in those horrid 50's asylums.
As I said, he really should've been aware that his forthright views on this issue would not be taken lightly. An appeal to parents concerned with those issues should've made the argument he was hoping to express without the extra masala he added.
Catholics are way worse, not being offensive. They really hate homosexuals.

Jagdish Grewal was kicked from saying that homesexuals was unnatural behaviour, and supported therapies to turn gays into straights. http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canada-election-2015-conservative-candidate-jagdish-grewal-gay-youth-1.3259324 Glad that Jagdish was kicked.

When I scroll on the news there are natural disasters, and in modern days people get all triggered and blame it on climate change.. Its part of nature folks, and when I read the news about the Hurricane in the East Coast. People kept blaming it on climate change.. Come on, the hurricane was part of the Atlantic Hurricane Season for 2015.. I don't deny climate change, but people are so worried.

The men who are running away from the Middle East are pansies. These men need to fight against ISIS, and save the Middle East. I say that we allow Iraqis, and Syrians in. Some of these migrants aren't from war torn countries at all.

Kira would make a good mod.
I agree with that as well.

Some of the blame lies with the audience too. Try making a Punjabi film minus any melodrama or songs - even on a subject such as the attempted genocide of a entire race of people - and do you anticipate the old uncles and aunties will go and see such a film? Sad but true.
Its how they do Movies now. I miss the old Punjabi movies. Now they add so much music, or humor in sad movies or tragedies. Nanak Naam Jahaz, thats the old movie I really like.

I am a Sikh, and I cut my hair. I understand about our hair, they are our roots of Sikhism, and when we cut the "roots" we lose generations, and I agree with that. Well, I just got a question, and its just that, will god get mad at me for cutting my hair?

In grade 5 a bunch of Goras called me "paki head". I cried a lot during the bullying.

Why is there ritualism in Sikhism?
in WHAT'S HAPPENING?
Posted
Well, not going to lie, yeah, I do it as every other Sikh. I mean, we can bow down to anywhere we want in my opinion, I mean god is everywhere it's not in a certain direction, but everywhere. I mean when we bow down we gave humility or submission to god in a sense, but, yes I do bow down.
