An old tale, but one that deserves re-telling. A friend recently uncovered half a dozen bottles of Irish Whiskey that had been lying for 20 years in the basement of a house he had bought. A quick test told him the brew was slightly “off”, but only slightly. His wife however insisted that he get rid of the whole lot down the sink. This is how he remembers what happened: “Reluctantly, I pulled out the cork from the first bottle and poured the contents down the sink – with the exception of one glass which I drank. I extracted the cork from the second bottle and poured that out too – except for one glass which I drank. I drew the cork from the third bottle and poured the contents down the sink – again with the exception of one glass which I drank. I pulled the cork from the fourth sink and poured the bottle down the glass which I drank. I pulled the bottle from the cork of the next and drank on sink of it and poured the rest down the glass. I pulled the sink out of the next glass and poured the cork from the bottle, and then corked the sink with the glass and drank the pour. When everything had been emptied, I steadied the house with one hand, and counted the bottles, corks, glasses and sinks, which came to 29. As the house came by again I made a recount. I finally had all the houses in one bottle which I drank. I am not under the alcofluence of incohol as some thinkle might peep. I am not half so funk as you might drink. But I doo fool so feelish I don’t know who is me, and the drinker I stand the longer I get.
