Am I alone

Or is there someone else

Who feels my pain

At the state of the Panth.

We’ve forgotten the message

The message of Guru Nanak

“The path to Divinity

Needs no intermediary.”

We’ve become lazy

Want to be spoon-fed

It’s way to difficult

To understand the path of Guru Nanak.

These sants and babas

Have readily filled this need

Pseudo-claimants, Bedis and Sodhis

Have even claimed Guru-ships.

Heads bow to them

They are held in awe

For we lazy Gur-Sikhs

Believe they have the powers.

We’ve elevated them

To a state above their worth

By paying them special homage

Inflating their inflated egos.

Special utensils are brought

As they partake in “Guru ka Langar”

They sit in designated areas

Separated from the sangat.

I witness these shows

And don’t know what to say

My head hangs in shame

My eyes fill with tears.

I feel a sadness

As I hear the sangat share their stories

Of how these babas and sants

Can guarantee the birth of a son.

These sants and babas

In their white chogaas

Wearing Rado watches

Are the Sikh ‘Pundits’ of today.

“Ardaas” on wheels

Is the new wave

It is the easiest way

To fleece the sangat o

f today.

Wake up my fellow Sikhs

And see them for who they are

Just a bunch of clever orators

Claiming spiritual authority.

Take away their power

Do not cater to their egos

The path to Divinity

Lies in the Guru Granth.

I write this with love

As sewa to the Panth

It's just very hard to wear one in the environment I'm in, plus it doesn't help when there is no support from family whatsoever. My parents were against me taking Amrit and that was a struggle, I know we should not worry about others opinions, but sometimes when you feel low because of the way outsiders treat you, it's nice to have support and love from home.

Belive me, I know what you are talking about. I'm mexican and live in a city called Xalapa, and here nobody, and I mean NOBODY wears a turban except me. I wear it since 1994.

I was born as a catholic and when my mother knew that I wanted to change my whole way of living, including religion, she asked me to leave home

For a moment I got panic, but I decided to leave and told her my decission. She didn't let me go.

Now she and my catholic family respects me a lot. Let me tell you, none here know about sikhs, no sangat here, no gurdwara. I just have my nitnem, my tapes and of course, internet.

Every day I have to hear people yelling at me "bin ladin", "aladdin", "kaliman" (a super hero that wears a turban), and so many nick names. I'm used to it and just ignore them.

In that way, it would be easy if I just cut my h

air and take of my turban, nobody would yell at me, nobody would notice my beliefs. BUT I wont cut it or take my sikhi off.

Consider this things, are there any sangat around? a Gurdwara maybe? do you see more turbans in your place or near it? if you answer yes to any of this questions then YOU ARE SO LUCKY!!

I would really love to know what is Gobi and what is Mircha. Sorry, I'm mexican and there are so many terms in this site that are not familiar to me

Can some one explain it or give me the name in english? (if there is one)

We are supossed to follow Waheguru's Hukam, that's one of the reasons we mantain our body intact. We accept it as a gift, a great one. Waheguru Ji is not stupid and he made us this way, if we want to change us (even if it is not permanently) is like we are saying that He does not made us right and we are better than He so we change us. I think we should humbly and gratefuly accept our eyes, skin, hair color. Why to hide what Waheguru give us? Let's be pride of what we are and have.

Tatoos is a way of changing us, if Waheguru wanted us to have a sign on our body He would give us one for sure! But He didn't.

Besides, to get a tatoo has a very serious health risks; yesterday I saw an article on T1MSN (Mexico) about tatoos and piercing, it says that it's very dangerous for many reasons.

You can get VHI, Hepatitis B (dont know how to say it in english),Skin Cancer, Psoriasis, Toxic Shocks (some of them use ink for painting cars), etc. There have been many cases in Europe.

I just want to say that i'ts really great to read those hukams and your thoughts, they are so inspiring. It is kind of difficult to find people like you around here, you all seem to be very commited with sikhi. There has been times when I think that meeting people like you it's only a dream, then I got here and realized that it is not.

Please forgive my ignorance, can anyone tell me the meaning of this words?

I would like to explain why I asked this question. I live in Mexico, in this city, Xalapa, there no are Gurdwaras or Sangat.

We have a Gurdwara once a month in a house of a Sikh family in a city near from here. None of us know how to play kirtan. So we used to put some kirtan cds for the Gurdwara. But I dont want to do that anymore. So I want to play a keyboard (cause don't have a vaja) and Im practicing at nights. However, the Shabads that Im practicing are mostly played in a western style (guitar, piano). Since Im not a musician and only have a very limited knowledge of music, I find very difficult to copy the sounds of the vaja when is played in a tradicional way.

That's why I asked this, because I dont want to play like this if this is incorrect.

After reading the discussion about Namdharis doing Kirtan in Gurdwaras a question have come to my mind. I would like to know if is correct to do Kirtan in a Gurdwara if this is not in the right raag.

I understand raag as a musical note/way of playing. Am I right? If not, can someone explain this?

I'm sorry if this seem to be silly questions but I will apreciate your answers.

Here in Mexico nobody knows Sikhs, to wear a kirpan in public might not be a good idea; anyway I wear mine (6") under my clothes. I travelled by plane to different cities last year and nobody noticed it on check points.

I want to get a bigger one and see what happens...
