  1. KPhull what the hell are you on about, is mandatory for 'amritdhari' Sikh, something all followers of Sikhi should aspire to do!!!

How is carrying a small blunt dagger, showing that were living 300 years in the past, and how is not compatible with living in modern times, and what relation has the kirpan got to with knife crime. How many attacks have happened using the kirpan??

Do you actually know the purpose of the Kirpan, other then a tool for self defence??

KPhull, you seriously need to think before posting such nonsense, I know of no Sikh, no matter how little knowledge they have of Sikhi showing such disregard to any of the 5 k's!!

  2. ALot of my family are from Smethwick\Oldbury, although there are frequent scuffles, I rarely here about a bullying problem. What tends to happen is that groups of muslim youths attack individual Sikhs on rare accounts.

From a Sikh perspective, the shameful thing is that our people instead of helping the victim, just watch and let it happen!!

There's too much rivalry and a lack of unity that's causing our weakness, were too busy argueing amongst ourselves to stick up for one another!! Maybe we should take a leaf out of Muslims, one thing is for sure, no matter what differences they have, they stick together!!!

  3. Manni,

Majority of Sikh believers are non Keshdhari, so your first point is irrelevant!!

I agree with your other points.

The issue us one of education by parents, the lack of and influence of gurdwaray being central focus of the Sikh community, and the disintegration of the Sikh community. Gurdwaray these days focus on the wrong things and have become commitee focused, focused on power and greed, there are very few facilities for youths and the atmosphere in many gurdwaray make it very unapealling for youth!

Also we can also take into account the general 'westernization' of Sikhs, which has lead to a larger influx of white and Sikh marriages!!

Instead of attacking and blaming Muslims, Hindus or whites, we must first look out our own community, our own people!! Also, this isn't a new phemomenom, this has been going on for years, and there's no need to panic, it's still a small percentage but we still must be aware and tackle the issue!!

  4. Fateh everyone

If you were to give out a leaflet to everyone going into a Gurdwara about what the rules are and WHY those rules are in place, what would you say?

I got some down myself but need help!

    1. No talking - self explanatory

    2. Please remove shoes AND socks before entering. (To reduce the intake of dirt going into the hall)

    3. Please cover your head... (why cover your head? Is "respect" the only reason?)

    4. No running.

    5. Please control your kids and keep them with you at all times.

    6. Mobile Phones must be switched off or put on silent.

    7. Do not answer or make calls on your mobile phones whilst in diwaan hall.

    8. Please bow before Guru Granth Sahib Jee upon entering and leaving the hall.

    9. Do not sit with your back towards Guru Granth Sahib jee

    ................

    anyone else help?

They are self explanatory, except number 5. I have 2 toddlers and keeping them quite and in control is very difficult. Is also find this type of control non expansive for children, yes children need boundries etc but for there evolution and education, play and exploration is the key.

They are neither the age to understand gurbani nor understand the procedures and conduct of the temple. If children are constantly told off and disciplined they will only feel resentment towards going to the gurdwara and will disasociate at a young age.

In the case of my kids, they enjoy the paath, and kirtan to them it's music but at the same time like to play, and unfortunately I get told off on numurous occassions for my kids playing etc but I never tell them off but I do try and calm them down. In the ideal world there would be nurseries or play areas at a gurdwara!!

So yup simple questions, Anyone in Leicester willing to join a Tennis Club for Sikhs? (though will be open to all) You'll get Specialist coaching to enhance your serve and so on, You can keep fit in summer hols, What day would you guys be free to have such an activtiy? Preferable Times?

Whats the ideal Location? Im thinking Evington Park cos its peaceful and is close to East Park Road GurGhar.

Name for such a club? Would you be willing to pay membership fee? (Incase we have to hire out courts and for other expenses)

Or is there no interest at all?

I know I put this in the wrong section Admin Ji, but people only check this section mostly and my target readers is very small so I need as much people as possible from Leicester to read this. Could you just leave it here for a couple of days?
