Wednesday, March 28, 2012 Ravinder Vasudeva , Hindustan Times Patiala , March 28, 2012 Email to Author First Published: 13:25 IST(28/3/2012) Last Updated: 13:27 IST(28/3/2012) 5 injured seriously in group clash in Patiala At least five persons were injured seriously on Wednesday in a clash between two groups in Patiala city during the day-long bandh called by Sikh outfits to protest the proposed execution of Balwant Singh Rajoana. Initial reports said that sharp-edged weapons like swords, knives and rods were used in the clash at around 12.15pm in Arya Samaj Chowk within the walled city after a few youths objected to provocative slogans raised by a group passing through the area in a procession. Both groups clashed in the thickly populated and congested area, where police were deployed in large numbers. Both groups also pelted each other with stones for a few minutes. The warring groups also damaged a few private vehicles parked in the area. Police resorted to cane-charge to disperse miscreants from the spot. Reports said the situation continued to be tense in the city, with lesser people venturing out on the roads. Patiala SSP Gurpreet Singh Gill told Hindustan Times from the spot that the situation was under control. The injured have been admitted to local Rajindra Medical College and Hospital. http://www.hindustantimes.com/StoryPage/Print/831976.aspx © Copyright © 2011 HT Media Limited. All Rights Reserved.
