Really fascinating complex man. His art was a mix of Maths, Philosophy and Science. People are still trying to understand his work and thought. Like some other renaissance artists like Michelangelo, he also questioned Christianity through his art. He was more of a scientist than an Artist. Really fascinating. This famous drawing of his people are still trying to decode. Its a drawing of a mans body with the perfect proportions. He believed the way a mans body works corresponded with the way the universe runs. The angle of the mans arms interestingly are the same as the angle of the Pyramids. For Whatever reason he also wrote backwards like a mirror. The body is broken into 14 parts. Some people suggest that these divisions are in line with the Chakras. Another interesting painting is the last supper. Jesus with his disciples. You can not tell which disciple is who. Whats interesting about this paintings is that most the men have beards apart from one "man" Jesus is in the center of the painting and the man next to Jesus leaning away from him is believed to be a woman, and looking closely you can see it resembles a woman more than a man. This figure is believed to be Mary Magdalene who is the most controversial figure in Christianity. Its long been suggested that she was actually married to Jesus but this was/is considered blasphemy by the Church and no one dared to mention it. The Church has gone as far as calling Mary Magdalene a <banned word filter activated> and through out history has attempted to either erase her or degrade her. The very idea of Jesus having a wife and possibly kids would shatter Christianity. Whats interesting about this painting is that if you cut out the female figure and lean it against the figure of Jesus on the other side then she actually rests her head on his shoulders. You can also see how there is a very strong V shape between the two figures. Openly suggesting Mary Magdalene to be the wife of Jesus would of resulted in public execution so artists used to create hidden messages and meanings in their art, you can find the same in the art of Michelangelo at the Sistine Chapel. It wasn't necessarily because they believed her to be the wife of Jesus but it was their way of questioning the faith and the hypocrisy of the Church. Other drawings.
