  1. I read about this community called Bishnoi who mainly live in Rajashtan. They follow rules set by their Guru who lived some 500 years ago. Whats great about this community is their coexistence with nature and respect for nature and animals. They actually pick plastic and litter from the dessert and plastic bags stuck on trees, something the west has only recently started talking about. In 1730 a lady called Amrita Devi along with her 3 daughters stood in front of a tree which the Maharaja had ordered to be cut down, refusing to move the Maharajas men hacked the lady and her 3 daughters to death. This act of protest against destruction of trees has been continued by women in that community. They plant 1000s of trees. Really interesting people and their respect for nature, though some of their laws seem a bit backwards. In Punjab the rivers are in such a bad state, rubbish and plastic in the rivers and everywhere else. People are cutting the woodlands down in Punjab causing animals to wonder into the villages and cities. Trees are being hacked down everywhere. Punjab has big wetlands where migrating birds stay but because of the destruction of habitat and pollution the wetlands in Punjab saw a drop of 50% in migrating birds. This man alone has planted 27,000 trees ! This man has rescued over 1000 injured animals Bishnoi people making artificial pools for thirsty animals in the desert picking plastic/litter from the desert and trees ladies protesting against destruction of trees
