School Counsellor Summary Information: Employer: Khalsa School Surrey Position Type: Administrative/Support Categories: Counselor School / Org: Khalsa School Surrey Location: Surrey, British Columbia FTE: FTE No. of Positions: 1 Posting Date: Monday, 08 December 2014 Closing Date: Thursday, 15 January 2015 Apply Online Details: The Counsellor will: Provide direct counselling to children and families; Consult with school staff and parents; Act as advocate for the children and their parents; Participate as a member of the school-based team; Provide direct instruction to students in areas such as peer helping, conflict resolution, leadership, social skills and life skills; Provide support to other educators teaching Career /Personal Planning and in promoting healthy school environments; Provide career/vocational counselling Provide educational counselling Act as liaison with community agencies and allied professionals; Be knowledgeable about current procedures for reporting suicidal concerns; Be knowledgeable about current procedures for reporting Child Abuse and Neglect; Be familiar with the Special Education Manual of Policies, Procedures and Guidelines. Be knowledgeable about reporting procedures for Child Abuse and Drug Abuse; Liaise with associate elementary schools to facilitate successful student transition to secondary setting; Is knowledgeable of future changes in graduation requirements to facilitate appropriate decision making for students in course and program selection. MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE Valid B. C. Teaching Certificate; Two years satisfactory teaching experience; A Master's degree in Counselling Psychology PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE Previous counselling experience at the elementary/secondary school level.
