Community Development Intern, Spring 2016 Internship posted by: Sikh Coalition Posted on: December 9, 2015 Location: National Office New York 50 Broad Street, Suite 1537, New York, NY, 10004 Position Summary: The Sikh Coalition is currently looking for interns with a passion for working toward the empowerment of unrepresented communities. The Community Development intern will work with the Community Development Manager to promote change in Sikh communities that help build a safer climate in school systems and for Sikh families, and connect Sikhs with essential resources vital to advancing academic and professional lives. The Community Development program is a program that trains interns with leadership skills that are transferable to their community, academics and professional lives. Sikh Coalition interns are given real responsibilities and have the opportunity to create noticeable change in the Sikh community through participating in the Coalition's groundbreaking work. Responsibilities will include: Working with Sikh communities in New York, specifically in Queens and New Jersey Organizing workshops and events for the youth leadership development program, the Junior Sikh Coalition Leading communications efforts with mainstream and Punjabi media The spring internships are unpaid and require a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week for 10 weeks. A work-study option can be discussed if needed. Qualifications: The Sikh Coalition is looking for passionate individuals dedicated to protecting and advocating for the civil and human rights of all individuals. We are looking for someone who is: Detail-oriented, well-organized and self-motivated A proactive self-starter who can develop and implement projects Possesses excellent written & oral skills Fluency in Punjabi is preferred Previous community engagement experience is a bonus Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint are required Applicants should either be pursuing or have completed an undergraduate or a graduate degree The Sikh Coalition is a community-based organization that works towards the realization of civil and human rights for all people. In particular, we work towards a world where Sikhs may freely practice and enjoy their faith.
